ENGLISHGB Diesel is highly flammable. Always store fuel in containers that are made especially for this purpose. Only fill or top up with fuel outdoors, and never smoke when filling or top- ping up. Fill with fuel before starting the engine. Never remove the fuel cap or fill with fuel while the engine is running or still warm. Never completely fill the tank. Leave an empty space (= at least the entire filler tube) to allow the diesel to expand when it warms up without over- flowing. CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL On delivery, the crankcase is filled with SAE 10W-40 oil. Check the oil level every time before using to ensure it is correct. The machine should be standing on level ground. Wipe clean around the oil dipstick. Un- screw and pull it up. Wipe off the dipstick. Slide it down completely and pull up again. Read off the oil level. Undo the oil filling screw and fill with oil, SAE 10W- 40, API CD or better, up to the “MAX” mark if the oil level is below this mark (fig. 15, 19). OIL PRESSURE BUZZER The engine is fitted with a warning buzzer for oil pressure. This buzzer starts when the ignition key is turned from stop position to operating position. The buzzer will normally stop when the engine has been running for a few seconds. If the buzzer does not stop, or if it starts during operation, turn off the engine and check the engine oil level. CHECKING THE TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL The transmission is fill ed with SAE 10W-40 oil when the machine is delivered from the factory, Check the oil level every time before using to ensure it is correct. The machine should be standing on level ground. Read off the oil level in the reservoir (fig. 16). It should be between the “MAX“ and “MIN“ marks. If necessary, top up with more oil. Use oil SAE 10W-40 (20W-50). CHECKING THE COOLING AIR IN- TA K E Check before starting the machine that the area where combustion air and cooling air are drawn in is free of excessive dirt (fig. 17). This should be cleaned if necessary. Cont act your nearest author- ised Hatz workshop. SAFETY SYSTEM This machine is equipped with a safety system that consists of: - a switch at the brake pedal. - a switch in the seat bracket. In order to start the machine, the following are nec- essary: - brake pedal pressed down. - driver sitting on seat. Always check the operation of the safe- ty system before using the machine! With the engine running and the driver sitting on the seat, check as follows: - press the drive pedal so that the machine starts to move, release the drive pedal – the machine should stop. - press the drive pedal so that the machine starts to move, engage the cruise control, lift your weight off the seat – the machine should stop. - press the drive pedal so that the machine starts to move, engage the crui se control, press the brake pedal – the machine should stop. - engage the power take-off, lift your weight off the seat – the power take-off should be disen- gaged. Do not use the machine if the safety sys- tem is not working! Take the machine to a service workshop for inspection! STARTING ENGINE 1. Check that the battery cables are correctly con- nected. 2. Do not keep your foot on the drive pedal. 3. Put the throttle control at full throttle. 4. Depress the brake pedal fully. -20 to -30 - 50%
ENGLISHGB 5. Turn the ignition key and start the engine. The engine does not need to be preheated. 6. When starting from cold, do not make the ma- chine work under load immediately, but let the en- gine run for a few minutes first. This will allow the oil to warm up. When in use, always operate the engine at full throttle. STOPPING Disengage the power take-off. Apply the parking brake. If the machine is left unattended, re- move the ignition key. The engine may be very warm immedi- ately after it is shut off. Do not touch the cylinder or cooling fins. This can cause burn injuries. STEERING AID Built-in function in order to facilitate steering. The operator only has to turn the steering wheel gently. An hydraulic torque amplifier creates the remain- ing force. As opposed to normal servo steering (e.g. in a car), the steering aid has a limited capacity. This means that it has some characteristics that might be con- sidered negative: - at low engine revs or in situations where extra steering force is needed, steering can be consid- ered “jumpy“. - the machine should always be moving when the steering is used. Avoid turning the steering wheel when the machine is standing completely still and the accessory is in the lowered working position. The steering is adapted in order to produce better results at a normal working speed. This produces major benefits. Even when the engine is not running, the steering works. However, it is harder to turn in this case, if the machine is to be manoeuvred manually. MOWING TIPS Make sure that there is the correct quantity of oil in the engine when driving on slopes (oil level on “MAX”). Be careful when driving on slopes. No sudden starting or stopping when mov- ing up or down a slope. Never drive across a slope. Move from the top down, and from the bottom to the top. The machine, equipped with original accessories, may not be driven on slopes greater than 10º in any direction. Reduce the speed on slopes and when making sharp turns to prevent the ma- chine from tipping over or you losing control of the machine. Do not turn the steering wheel to full lock when driving in top gear and at full throttle. The machine can easily topple over. Keep hands and fingers well away from articulated steering joint and seat bracket. Risk of crushing injuries. Nev- er operate the machine without the en- gine casing. SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE SERVICE PROGRAM In order to keep the machine in good condition, as regards reliability and operational safety as well as from an environmental perspective, STIGA’s serv- ice program should be followed. The service programme comprises a Basic Service once a year or every 200 hours of operation, whichever comes first, and an Intermediate Serv- ice every 50 hours of operation. The content of these programmes can be found in the attached service log. We recommend that an authorised workshop car- ries out every Basic Service. This guarantees that the work is performed by trained personnel and with genuine spare parts. At every Basic Service, the service log should be stamped. A “fully stamped“ service log is a valua- ble document that improves the machine’s second- hand value. PREPARATIONS Unless otherwise stated, all service and mainte- nance must be carried out on a stationary machine when the engine is turned off and the ignition key
ENGLISHGB removed.Prevent the machine from rolling by al- ways applying the parking brake. Prevent unintentional starting of the motor by always stopping the motor and disconnecting the negative cable from the battery. CLEANING To reduce the risk of fire, keep the en- gine, battery and fuel tank free from grass, leaves and oil. To reduce the risk of fire, regularly check the machine for oil and/or fuel leakage. When washing the machine with water under high pressure, do not point the jet directly at the trans- mission. Do not point jets of wate r directly at the engine. Use a brush or compressed air in order to clean it. ENGINE OIL Change engine oil the first time after 25 hours of operation, and subsequently after every 200 hours of operation or once a season. Change oil when the engine is warm. Change the oil more frequently if the engine has to operate under demanding conditions or if the am- bient temperature is high. The engine oil may be very warm if it is drained off directly after the engine is shut off. Therefore, allow the engine to cool a few minutes before draining the oil. 1. Unscrew the oil drain plug and let the oil run out (fig. 18). Collect the oil in a collection vessel. Then take the oil to a recycling station. Do not allow oil to get on the V-belts. 2. Screw in the cleaned oil drain plug. Check the copper washer for damage. 3. Remove the dipstick and the oil filling screw and fill with oil up to the “MAX” mark (fig. 15, 19). Oil capacity: 1.7 litres. Oil type: SAE 10W-40 Service class: API CD or better. Use oil without any additives. Do not fill with too much oil. This can cause the engine to overheat. After filling up the oil, start the engine and idle for 30 seconds. Stop the engine. Wait for 30 seconds and then check the oil level. Check to see if there is any oil leakage. If neces- sary, fill up the oil up to the “MAX” mark. SCREW JOINTS After the first 25 hours of operation, the engine’s screw joints should be checked. Tighten the screws if necessary. The adjusting screws for the engine’s regulator and injection syst em are sealed with lac- quer and must not be tightened or adjusted (fig. 20). Note that it is not possible to influence the amount of injected fuel or the engine’s maximum revs from outside the engine. AIR FILTER - ENGINE Check that the air filter is not clogged every 50 hours of operation. Wa r n i n g ! Risk of burn injuries. 1. Remove the battery by unscrewing the wing nut, folding out the clamp and lifting out the battery. 2. Undo the screw and remove the air filter cover by pulling it outwards/backwards (fig. 23). 3. Check the condition of the air filter. Replace or clean if necessary. LUBRICATION - CHASSIS The machine’s articulated steering joint has four grease nipples that shoul d be lubricated with grease after every 25 hours of operation (fig. 21). Note: Please note that the fourth grease nipple is not shown on the picture. It is located on the under- side, on the flexible axle’s front bearing. Apply chain oil to the steering chains a couple of times each season. If the steering chains are really dirty, dismantle them, wash them and then grease them once more.
ENGLISHGB Apply universal grease to all the plastic bearings a couple of times per season. Apply a coating of engine oil to the tension arm joints a couple of times each season. Apply a few drops of engine oil to both ends of the throttle control cables a couple of times a season. STEERING CHAINS Adjust the steering chains after every 50 hours of operation. Put the machine in the straight-ahead position. Tension the steering chains by tightening up the nuts that are located on the underside of the articu- lated steering joint (fig. 22). Tension until all play is removed. Adjust both the nuts the same amount to ensure that the alignment of the steering wheel is not changed. Do not over-tighten the st eering chains. This will cause the steering to become heavy and will in- crease wear on the steering chains. DRAINING THE TANK The fuel tank should be drained of water at least once a year. Open the drainage screw and collect the water in an appropriate vessel (fig. 24). GGP reserves the right to make alterations to the product without prior notification.
