COOLINGSYSTEM 3 DESCRIPTION ANDOPERATION COOLANT CIRCULATION Operation When theengine isstarted fromcoldthethermostat (2) prevents coolantcirculation throughtheradiator by closing offthe tophose (6).During theengine warm up period thewater pump (5)circulates coolanttothe cylinders inthe crankcase andthrough separate ports to the cylinder head.Atthe rear ofthe cylinder heada proportion ofthe flow isdiverted throughaheater feed pipe (16)tothe matrix ofthe heater unit(15).
