Forsafeoperationofthewaterheater,thereliefvalve mustnotberemovedfromitsdesignatedopeningor plugged. Thetemperature-pressurereliefvalvemustbeinstalled directlyintothefittingofthewaterheaterdesignated forthereliefvalve.Positionthevalvedownwardandpro- videtubingsothatanydischargewillexitonlywithin6 inchesabove,oratanydistancebelowthestructural floor.Becertainthatnocontactismadewithanylive electricalpart.Thedischargeopeningmustnotbe blockedorreducedinsizeunderanycircumstances. Excessivelength,over30feet,oruseofmorethanfour elbowscancauserestrictionandreducethedischarge capacityofthevalve. Novalveorotherobstructionistobeplacedbetween thereliefvalveandthetank.Donotconnecttubing directlytodischargedrainunlessa6airgapisprovided.
