    Recording Files
    Video Recording
    Preparation: • Insert an SD card.    • Open lens cover.    • Open the LCD monitor to turn on the camcorder.
    Press the SELECT PLAY/REC button to select recording mode.
    PLAY/RECSELECT
    Press the START/STOP button to start recording.
    Approximate remaining time for recording appears.

    L To record a video clip (approx. 10 minutes)Before you start recording, press UPLOAD button twice to “UPLOAD REC ON”  (Z pg. 24).
    Slide the mode switch to select ! (video) mode.
    NOTES
    •  The video recording mode is automatically selected when you turn the camcorder’s power off and then on again.• If the camcorder is not operated for 5 minutes while the power is on, it turns itself off automatically to conserve power. To turn the camcorder on again when using the battery pack, close the LCD monitor and open it again. When using the AC adapter, perform any operation such as zooming.• Video files are given the names MOV001.MOD to MOV009.MOD, MOV00A.MOD to MOV00F.MOD, and MOV010.MOD in order of recording.• After recording video for 12 consecutive hours, recording stops automatically.• A new file will be created for every 4 GB of continuous shooting.• This camcorder records video in MPEG2 format compliant with SD-VIDEO format. This camcorder is not compatible with other digital video formats.

    Recording Files (Continued)
    Still Image Recording
    Preparation: • Insert an SD card.    • Open lens cover.    • Open the LCD monitor to turn on the camcorder.
    Slide the mode switch to select # (still image) mode.Press the SELECT PLAY/REC button to select recording mode.
    PLAY/RECSELECT
    Press and hold the SNAPSHOT button halfway.
    The ? indicator becomes green when the captured image is focused.
    Press the SNAPSHOT button fully to take the photo/picture.
    NOTES
    • DIS (Digital Image Stabilizer) does not function during still image recording.• If the camcorder is not operated for 5 minutes while the power is on, it turns itself off automatically to conserve power. To turn the camcorder on again when using the battery pack, close the LCD monitor and open the LCD monitor again. When using the AC adapter, perform any operation such as zooming.

    Zooming
    Preparation:• Slide the mode switch to select ! or # mode.• Press the SELECT PLAY/REC button to select recording mode.

    LED Light
    Preparation:• Slide the mode switch to select ! or # mode.• Press the SELECT PLAY/REC button to select recording mode.
    1Touch the MENU button.
    2Select [LIGHT].
    3Select the desired setting.
    DThe light remains on regardless of the surrounding conditions.
    DAThe light turns on automatically when shooting in insufficient light conditions.
    No displayDisables this function.
    Registering Files to Events!
    If you select an event to register the file toevent to register the file to before starting recording, the file will be registered to the selected event, thus making the file easy to find at playback. There are up to three different destinations within each event (for example: BABY1, BABY2, BABY3).
    Preparation:• Slide the mode switch to select ! mode.• Press the SELECT PLAY/REC button to select recording mode.
    1Touch the MENU button.
    2Select [REGISTER EVENT].
    3Select the event that you want to register the file to.
    • To select a different destination, select [SORT].• To cancel the event registration, select  [CANCEL].
    The selected event is displayed on the screen. Press the START/STOP button to start recording.
    L To quit the screenSelect [QUIT].

    NOTEOnce you register a file to a certain event, the setting will remain even if you turn the power off. Unless you change the setting, you will register a file to the same event that you had previously selected. 
    						
    							
    
    
    Checking the Remaining Space on the SD Card!
    Preparation:• Slide the mode switch to select ! mode.• Press the SELECT PLAY/REC button to select recording mode.
    Press the INFO button.

    The maximum recording time is displayed for each picture quality mode 
    (  B :  ULTRA FINE, C : FINE, D : NORMAL, E : ECONOMY).

    Recording a Video Clip for Upload   !
    If you select the upload pre-record mode function to record a video clip, the file duration is preset to approx. 10 minutes and this makes it easy for you to upload the video clip to a video sharing website.
    Preparation:•  Slide the mode switch to select ! mode.• Press the SELECT PLAY/REC button to select recording mode.
    Press the UPLOAD button twice to “UPLOAD REC ON” so that  indicator appears. Press the START/STOP button to start recording.
    UPLOAD
    When recording ends, the camcorder automatically returns to normal recording mode.
    L To cancel upload pre-record mode functionBefore recording of Video Clip, press the UPLOAD button to off mode.
    NOTES
    • The maximum time limit of 1 video clip is approx.10 minutes. After 10 minutes have passed, recording stops automatically and upload pre-record mode function is deactivated.•  You can shoot in any quality mode, but higher qualities will take longer to convert for uploading.• To upload the video clip to YouTube, see page 53.

    Manual recording mode enables you to set the focus and screen brightness etc. manually. 
    To Change to Manual Recording Mode
    Preparation:• Slide the mode switch to select ! or # mode.• Press the SELECT PLAY/REC button to select recording mode.
    Press twice.

    L To return to the auto recording modePress the AUTO/MANUAL button so that the 4 indicator appears.
    Program AE
    You can record videos or still images with optimum brightness by adjusting the exposure and shutter speed to suit your surroundings or the subject.
    After performing “To Change to Manual Recording Mode” (Z  above)
    1Touch the MENU button.
    2Select [PROGRAM AE].
    3Select the desired setting.
    For details on each setting, see the right column.
    L To cancel program AESelect [OFF] in step 3.
    L Items for program AE setting
    • 5 NIGHT:  Records with more sensitivity in dim locations by adjusting the shutter speed automatically.• 3 TWILIGHT:  Makes evening scenes look more natural.• 6 PORTRAIT:  The subject in the foreground is accentuated by blurring the background.• H SPORTS:  Records fast moving subjects clearly.• G SNOW:  Compensates for subjects that may appear too dark when shooting in extremely bright surroundings, such as in snow.• / SPOTLIGHT:  Select this when a spotlight makes a subject appear too bright.
    Backlight Compensation
    Backlight compensation brightens the subject by increasing the exposure.
    After performing “To Change to Manual Recording Mode” (Z  left column)
    1Touch the MENU button.
    2Select [BACKLIGHT COMP.].
    3Set to [ON].
    L To cancel backlight compensationSelect [OFF] in step 3.

    Manual Setting in Function Menu
    You can use manual recording functions easily by selecting items in the function menus.
    After performing “To Change to Manual Recording Mode” (Z pg. 25)
    1Touch the MENU button.
    2Select [MANUAL SETTING].
    3Select the desired menu.
    For details on each menu, see below.
    4Select the desired setting.
    Depending on the kind of settings you select, you can set the value by using the touch sensor.
    The menu disappears and the indicator for the set function appears.

    ADJUST BRIGHTNESSAdjusts the brightness.
    For ! mode
    [AUTO]: The brightness is adjusted automatically.
    –6 to +6: Corrects the brightness within this range in increments of 1.
    For # mode
    [±0]: The brightness is not adjusted.
    –2.0 to +2.0 (EV): Corrects the brightness within this range in increments of 1/3EV. 
    L  To lock the exposureWhen the menu disappears after you finish configuring the setting, select [LOCK]. The C indicator appears.
    FOCUSAdjusts the focus.
    [AUTO] : The focus is adjusted automatically.focus is adjusted automatically.@ 9 : A : Adjusts the focus manually by using the touch sensor. (When zooming, the subject will not go out of focus if you adjust the focus at the telephoto (T) side before zooming to the wide-angle (W) side.)

    WBAdjusts the white balance to achieve the optimum colors for the amount of light in your surroundings during recording.
    @ [AUTO]: White balance is adjusted automatically.B MWB: Adjusts the white balance manually depending on the light source.
    1)   Hold a sheet of plain white paper in front 
    of the subject so that the white paper fills the screen.
    2)   Keep touching the OK button until the B indicator starts blinking then stops blinking.
    D FINE: When shooting outdoors on a sunny day.E CLOUD: When shooting outdoors on a cloudy day.F HALOGEN: When a video light or similar type of lighting is used.
    SHUTTER SPEEDA fast shutter speed can freeze the motion of a fast-moving subject, and a slow shutter speed can blur the subject to give the impression of motion.
    [AUTO]: The shutter speed is adjusted automatically.1/2 to 1/4000 (For ! mode)/ 1/2 to 1/500 (For # mode): The smaller the value, the faster the shutter speed. 
    NOTEIt is recommended to use the tripod (Z pg.  19) when recording with a slow shutter speed.
    PHOTOMETRY AREAEnables you to adjust the brightness in the desired spot when backlight compensation does not work well.
    6 [WHOLE SCREEN]: Brightness is adjusted automatically for whole screen.7 SPO T: Brightness for the specified spot is adjusted automatically. Furthermore, brightness in the specified spot can be locked by selecting [LOCK]. The C indicator appears.
    L To cancel spot exposure controlSelect [WHOLE SCREEN] again so that the C indicator disappears.
    EFFECTEnables you to record videos or still images with special effects.
    1 [OFF]: No effect is used.J SEPIA: The image has a brownish tint like old photos.K MONOTONE: The image becomes black and white like old movies.L CLASSIC FILM*: This effect skips frames to give images of an old movie atmosphere.M STROBE*: The image looks like a series of consecutive snapshots.* Not available in # mode.
    TELE MACROEnables you to shoot a subject as large as possible at a distance of 
    approx. 50 cm (1.64 ft).
    1 [OFF]: Disables the function.0 ON: Activates the function.

    1Slide the mode switch to select ! (video) or # (still image) mode.

    You can switch the index screen to the date index screen or event screen and search a file by the recording date or the event.

    You can search the desired file by the recording date.

    Event Screen!

    Playing Back Files (Continued)
    To Play Back MPG Files!
    MPG files are stored in the EXTMOV folder.Follow the procedure below to play back the MPG files in the EXTMOV folder.
    Preparation:• Slide the mode switch to select ! mode.• Press the SELECT PLAY/REC button to select playback mode.
    1Touch the MENU button.
    2Select [PLAYBACK MPG FILE].
    3Select the file you want to play back.

    NOTES
    • An MOD file is created in the EXTMOV folder when management information is corrupted.•  Depending on the condition of the damaged file, playback might fail or may not run smoothly.
