38 Convenient functions of disc/file playback You can use the preference screen to change the initial settings of the main unit according to the environment where the main unit is used. ■ IMPORTANT • Slide the remote control mode selector to [SHIFT]. NOTE • The top and bottom of the preference screen may not be displayed on a widescreen TV. Adjust the picture size on the TV. ■When a disc/file is stopped or no disc is loaded (“NO DISC” is displayed in the dis- play window) 1Press [SET UP]. • The preference screen appears on the TV screen. 2Use 5, /, 2, 3 (cursor) and [ENTER] to operate the preference screen. • Follow the description on the TV screen to operate the preference screen. NOTE • It is recommended that you slide the remote control mode selector to [AUDIO] after using this function. Most of the other functions can be used when the remote control mode selector is at [AUDIO]. NOTE • If the selected language is not recorded on the disc/file, the optimum language set for the disc/ file is displayed. • For a language code such as “AA”, refer to the “Language codes” on page 41. NOTE • When using an HDMI cable to connect the main unit to a widescreen TV with a 16 : 9 aspect ratio, select the display method “16 : 9 NORMAL”. 16 : 9 NORMAL : For a widescreen TV whose aspect ratio is fixed at 16:9. When a conventional screen picture whose aspect ratio is 4:3 is input, black bars appear on the left and right sides of the screen. 16:9 AUTO : For a widescreen TV which automatically detects the aspect ratio of the input screen picture. When a conventional screen picture is input When a widescreen picture is input : For a TV with conventional 4:3 aspect ratio. When a widescreen picture is input, black bars appear on the top and bottom of the screen . 4 : 3 PS (Pan Scan) : For a TV with conventional 4:3 aspect ratio. When a widescreen picture is input, the left and right edges of the picture are not shown on the screen. (If the disc/file is not compatible with Pan Scan, the picture is displayed at the Letterbox ratio.) 16 : 9 MULTI NORMAL : 16 : 9 MULTI AUTO : 4 : 3 MULTI LB (Letterbox) : 4 : 3 MULTI PS (Pan Scan) : These “MULTI” options should be selected when you connect the system to a TV com- patible with multiple video signal types. If you select one of these options, the system out- puts a PAL or NTSC video signal according to the disc, regardless of the video signal type setting. (Refer to pages 10 and 11.) 4 : 3 LB (Letterbox) PICTURE SOURCE Select the item suitable to the video source. : The video source type (a video or film) is automatically selected. FILM : To view a film or video recorded with the progressive scan method VIDEO : Suitable for playing back a video SCREEN SAVER You can turn or OFF the screen saver. The screen saver activates when there is no operation made for approxi- mately 5 minutes sinc e a still picture was last displayed. FILE TYPE When files of different types are recorded on a loaded disc or connected USB device, select the file type before playback. : For MP3/WMA/WAV files STILL PICTURE : For JPEG files VIDEO : For ASF/DivX/MPEG1/MPEG2 files HDMI DVI COLORYou can select the settings for the picture appearance (image quality, color intensity and black fading) on the TV connected to the [HDMI MONITOR OUT] terminal. STANDARD : For normal usage : The main unit automatically adjusts the pic- ture appearance. HDMI OUTYou can select the video signal type output from the [HDMI MONITOR OUT] terminal. : For normal usage. The main unit automati- cally selects the output video signal type according to the TV connected to the [HDMI MONITOR OUT] terminal. RGB : Select this item if no picture appears on the TV with the “AUTO” setting. The output video signal type is set to the RGB signal. 42 Ripping sound directly from a CD to a USB device You can record sound from a CD to a USB device. This function is generally called “ripping” or “digital audio extraction”. CAUTION • It should be noted that it may be unlawful to re-record pre-recorded tapes, records, or discs without the consent of the owner of copyright in the sound or video recording, broadcast or cable program and in any liter- ary, dramatic musical, or artistic work embodied therein. • Only a CD formatted with Compact Disc Digital Audio (CD-DA) standard is compatible with this function. You cannot record sound from CDs with other formats, other types of discs, or other sources. • A track from a CD is digitally recorded and con- verted into an MP3 file. • This system uses a constant recording speed of x1. Sound is recorded at bit rate of 128 kbps. You cannot increase the recording speed. *For the number button usage, refer to “Using the number buttons” on page 12. ■ IMPORTANT • Slide the remote control mode selector to [AUDIO]. 1Place a CD on the disc tray and connect the USB device. • Refer to pages 19 and 20. 2Press [DVD 3]. 3Press 7 to stop playback. 4Press [REC]. • The title and number of the group appear on the TV screen. (It may take some time until the title and number of the group appear.) TV screen 5Press 5 or / (cursor) repeatedly to select the desired group on the connected USB device. • You can create a new group by selecting “NEW GROUP” on the TV screen. • After this step, you can add (edit) a title to the selected group. Follow step 4 to 8 in “Adding (Editing) a title to a track/group on a USB device” on page 45. • To cancel the settings, press 7. Display window • When recording finishes, the “REC” indica- tor turns off. NOTE • When you want to quit recording, press 7. When you press 7 after [ENTER] is pressed in step 6, sound having been recorded before 7 is pressed is stored. After pressing 7, if you want to disconnect the USB device, wait until the “REC” indicator stops flashing and disappears. • Do not operate the main unit when “PLEASE WAIT...” is displayed on the TV screen or “WAIT” is displayed in the display window. Wait until the display disappears. • If “NO USB” appears in the display window, check the USB device or its connection. • “CANT REC” appears in the display window if recording cannot continue for some reason. - The USB device may be connected improp- erly. Check the connection. - You may be trying to record write protected tracks. - You may be trying to record sound from a CD- R or CD-RW. The Serial Copy Management System (SCMS) protects copyright and allows only first-generation digital copies from the digitally recordable source. In short, you can- not make “a copy of a copy”. - You may be trying to record more than the lim- ited number of recordable tracks. You can record up to 999 tra cks to a group and 4 000 tracks to a USB device. - The number of tracks that can be recorded to the root group may be limited on the USB device. The number of tracks may have exceeded the limitation. In this case, select another group or create a new group. • Changes to the volume and quality of the sound during recording do not affect the recorded sound or the recorded sound level. • The following functions do not affect the recorded sound: the tr eble/bass adjustment function (page 12), K2 function (page 13 [only for NX-F7]), speaker volume level function (page 13), surround mode function (page 13), head- phone surround function (page 14) and clear voice function (page 14). • When “RANDOM” is selected, operating this function automatically cancels random playback. CAUTION • Do not bump or move the main unit while record- ing sound. Such movement may interfere with recording. • Do not disconnect the USB device during recording, as this may cause malfunction. Instead of step 3 on page 42, start playback of the desired track. • You can use the number buttons, 4 or ¢ no to select a track. • Finishing step 6 returns playback to the begin- ning of the current track and only that track is recorded. NOTE • You can also record on ly the desired track by pausing the track instead of step 3 on page 42. • When “RANDOM” is selected, operating this function automatically cancels random playback. Before proceeding to step 4 on page 42, program the desired tracks. • Refer to steps 1 and 2 on pages 29 and 30 for programming tracks. • The following procedure is the same as steps 4 to 6 on page 42 and this page. Display window • Select “T. DELETE” to delete a track. • Select “G. DELETE” to delete a group. 6Press [ENTER]. TV screen • To cancel deleting the track/group, press [CANCEL]. 7Press [ENTER]. NOTE • When “WAIT” is displayed in the display window, you cannot start deletion. Wait until the main unit reads signals from the USB device. • You can also refer to messages on the TV screen when you delete a title to a track/group from the connected USB device. The messages indicate the operational status and provide instructions. • Do not press [AUDIO F] while the main unit is deleting a track or group. If [AUDIO F] is pressed, the main unit automatically turns off after the track or group is deleted. • It may take a long time to delete a group contain- ing many tracks. CAUTION • Do not bump or move the main unit while delet- ing a track/group. Such movement may interfere with deleting. • Do not disconnect the USB device during delet- ing, as this may cause malfunction. 46 Ripping sound directly from a CD to a USB device The operation is explained with the time when to enter “F” as an example. 1Press 5 or / (cursor) repeatedly to select the character type set- ting. • Each time you press 5 or / (cursor), the selected character type setting changes to “ABCDE”, “abcde” or “01234” on the TV screen. • “ABCDE” refers to uppercase characters or symbols. • “abcde” refers to lowercase characters or symbols. • “01234” refers to numerical characters. 2Press the number button [3] repeatedly until “F” appears. • Several characters are assigned to one but- ton. Press the butto n repeatedly until the desired character is displayed. In this exam- ple, “D”, “E” and “F” are assigned to [3]. • For the available characters, refer to “Avail- able characters” shown on the right. NOTE • When you want to move the character entry position, press 2 or 3 (cursor) repeatedly. • When you want to enter “NO”, “TV”, or other two or more characters which are assigned to one button (in this case, [6] or [8]), enter the first character, press 3 (cursor) to move the charac- ter entry position to the right, and then enter the second character. • You can enter up to 24 characters for the file title and up to 28 characters for the folder title. • When you want to erase a character, move the character entry position to the desired character, and press [CANCEL]. • When you want to enter a space, select the space from the symbol (Refer to “Available char- acters” shown on the right). You can also enter a space at the end of a title by pressing 3 (cur- sor). • When you want to cancel title entry, press 7. The entered characte rs are not stored. • If you enter a title that already exists, “THIS NAME ALREADY EXISTS. PLEASE USE A DIFFERENT NAME.” appears on the TV screen. Enter a different title. Available characters You can use the characters shown below by repeatedly pressing the number buttons ([1] to [9] and [0]). Each number button is assigned with sev- eral characters. *Available symbols You can use the symbols show below by repeat- edly pressing [1]. 47 Operating external devices using the remote control You can operate your TV, digital broadcast satellite (DBS) and video cassette recorder (VCR) using the remote control of this system. *For the number button usage, refer to “Using the number buttons” on page 12. ■ IMPORTANT • Slide the remote control mode selector to the lowest position. 1Press [TV]. 2Hold down [TV F]. • Hold down [TV F] until you finish step 5. 3Press [ENTER] and release. 4Press number buttons to enter the manufacturer code. Examples: For a Hitachi TV: Press [1], then [0]. For a Toshiba TV: Press [0], then [8]. When the manufacturer of your TV has 2 or more codes, select the manufacturer codes in turn and find the one that operates the TV and the remote control properly. The initial code setting is “01 (JVC)”. 5Release [TV F]. NOTE • It is recommended that you slide the remote control mode selector to [AUDIO] after using this function. Most of the other functions can be used when the remote control mode selector is at [AUDIO]. • Manufacturer codes are subject to change with- out notice. You may not be able to operate the TV produced by the manufacturer. • After replacing the batteries of the remote con- trol, set the manufacturer code again.
