vSystem board without IBM security chip (bottom view) Begin by checking the FRU number of the system board, and be sure to use the correct system board for the computer. For the FRU numbers, see“Parts list”on page 137. ImportantIf the ThinkPad computer you are servicing has a security chip, mind the following: vDo not remove the security chip from the system board. If the security chip is removed by accident, reinstall it on the system board immediately. Then make sure that it is firmly fixed on the system board and does not move easily. vThe security chipcannotbe used with any other system board. vThe system boardcannotbe used with any other security chip. vThe system boardcannotbe used without the security chip. vIf you return a defective system board, you must check whether the security chip is embedded. Note for sticking a label kit on the base coverNew base cover FRU is shipped with several kinds of label kit. When you replace the base cover, you need to stick a homologation labelawhich has the same part no. with the label on the old base cover (defective FRU) on the new base cover. In some models, you also need to stick one or two FCC labelsb. Check the old base cover and if there is one or two FCC leabels on it, find the same one from the label kit and stick it on the new base cover.
