5.Press the Print Photos button. TIP:While the photo is printing, you can continue scrolling through the photos on your memory card. When you see a photo you want to print, you can press the Print Photos button to add that photo to the print queue. 6.If you increased the number of copies or selected additional photos to print, do one of the following in the Select Format screen: • Press the OK button to accept the default of 1-Up. The photos will be printed on separate pages. • Press the button to highlight 3-Up, and then press the OK button. The photos will be printed on the same page (up to 3 per page). Save photos to your computer You can use the HP Photosmart Software installed on your computer to transfer photos from a memory card to your computer’s hard drive for advanced photo editing, sharing photos online, printing from your computer, and creating special projects such as printing a photo directly onto an HP Photosmart CD or DVD. Before transferring photos to your computer, you need to remove the memory card from your digital camera and insert it in the appropriate memory card slot on the HP Photosmart. NOTE: The HP Photosmart must be connected to a computer that has the HP Photosmart Software installed on it. To save photos 1. Insert a memory card into the appropriate slot on the HP Photosmart. The software opens on your computer. 2. Click Save, and then follow the onscreen prompts on your computer to save the photos to your computer. Only images that were not previously saved are copied to your computer. Edit photos The HP Photosmart automatically enhances your photos (brightening and sharpening them), before you print them. Remove red-eye The flash on a camera (especially on older model cameras) can sometimes cause a subjects eyes to appear red in your photos. You can remove redness so that eyes appear the correct shade in your photos. NOTE: The changes you make to the photo apply only to viewing and printing the photo. The changes will not be saved on the memory card. To remove red-eye from photos 1. Insert your memory card into the appropriate slot on the HP Photosmart. The most recent image on the card appears on the display. 2.Press the or buttons to scroll through your photos until the photo you want to print appears. 3. Press the OK button to select the photo you want to edit. 4. Press Red-Eye Removal on the control panel. 9 Maintain the HP Photosmart The HP Photosmart requires little maintenance. You might need to replace, align, or clean your print cartridges from time to time ensure that your printouts are always of the highest quality. This section provides instructions for keeping the HP Photosmart in top working condition. Perform these simple maintenance procedures as necessary. Handle the print cartridges Before you replace or clean a print cartridge, you should know the part names and how to handle the print cartridges. 1Copper-colored contacts 2Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing) 3Ink nozzles under tape Hold the print cartridges by their black plastic sides, with the label on top. Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. NOTE:Handle the print cartridges carefully. Dropping or jarring cartridges can cause temporary printing problems, or even permanent damage. Replace the print cartridges Follow these instructions when you need to replace print cartridges. NOTE: When the ink level for the print cartridge is low, a message appears on the display. You can also check the ink levels by using the Printer Toolbox available through the HP Photosmart Software on your computer or through the Print Properties dialog box on your computer. If you do not already have replacement print cartridges for the HP Photosmart, go to www.hp.com/buy/supplies . If prompted, choose your country/region, follow the prompts to select your product, and then click one of the shopping links on the page. Choose the right cartridge combination Choose the best combination of cartridges for your print job: •Everyday printing: Use a black cartridge along with a tri-color cartridge. • Color photos: Use a photo cartridge along with a tri-color cartridge. • Black-and-white photos: Use a gray photo cartridge along with a tri-color cartridge. To replace the print cartridges 1.Make sure the HP Photosmart is on. CAUTION: If the HP Photosmart is off when you open the print cartridge door to access the print cartridges, the HP Photosmart will not release the cartridges for changing. You might damage the HP Photosmart if the print cartridges are not docked safely when you try to remove them. 2.Open the print cartridge door. The print carriage moves to the far right side of the HP Photosmart. 3.Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a print cartridge to release it. If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left. Work with print cartridges 55 Maintain the HP Photosmart
If you are replacing the black, photo, or gray photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right. 1Print cartridge slot for the tri-color print cartridge 2Print cartridge slot for the black and photo print cartridges 4.Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot. 5. If you are removing the black print cartridge in order to install the photo or gray photo print cartridge, store the black print cartridge in the print cartridge protector or an airtight plastic container. 6. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab. 1Copper-colored contacts 2Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing) 3Ink nozzles under tape CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. 7.Hold the print cartridge with the HP logo on top, and insert the new print cartridge into the empty cartridge slo t. Make sure you push the print cartridge in firmly until it snaps into place. If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot. If you are installing a black, photo, or gray photo print cartridge, slide it into the right slot. 8. Close the print cartridge door. If you installed a new print cartridge, the HP Photosmart prints a print cartridge alignment page. 9. When prompted, ensure plain white paper is loaded in the input tray, then press OK. Work with print cartridges 57 Maintain the HP Photosmart
10.The HP Photosmart prints a test page, aligns the print head, and calibrates the printer. Recycle or discard the page. A success or failure message appears. NOTE:If you have colored paper loaded in the input tray when you align the printer, the alignment will fail. Load unused plain white paper into the input tray, and then try the alignment again. 11. Press OK to continue. This report provides useful information on several aspects of your device, including yo ur print cartridges. To print a self-test report 1. Load letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the input tray. 2. Press and hold the Cancel button and then press the Red-Eye Removal button. The HP Photosmart prints a self-test report , which might indicate the source of the printing problem. A sample of the ink test area of the report is shown below. 3. Make sure the test patterns show a complete grid and the thick color lines are complete. • If more than a few lines in a pattern are broken, this might indicate a problem with the nozzles. You might need to clean the print cartridges. • If the black line is missing, faded, streaked, or shows lines, this might indicate a problem with the black or photo print cartridge in the right slot. • If any of the color lines are missing, faded, streaked, or show lines, this might indicate a problem with the tri-color print cartridge in the left slot. The ink supply level shows an estimate of the amount of ink remaining in the print cartridges. TIP: You can also print a self-test report to see if your print cartridges might need to be replaced. NOTE: The HP Photosmart can only detect the ink levels for genuine HP ink. The ink levels in print cartridges that are refilled or have been used in other devices, might not register accurately. NOTE: Ink from the cartridges is used in the printing process in a number of different ways, including in the initialization process, which prepares the device and cartridges for printing, and in printhead servicing, which keeps print nozzles clear and ink flowing smoothly. In addition, some residual ink is left in the cartridge after it is used. For more information, see www.hp.com/go/inkusage . To check the ink levels from the HP Photosmart Software 1.In the HP Solution Center, click Settings, point to Print Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox . NOTE:You can also open the Printer Toolbox from the Print Properties dialog box. In the Print Properties dialog box, click the Services tab, and then click Service this device . The Printer Toolbox appears. 2. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. The estimated ink levels for the print cartridges appear. Remove the black print cartridge and insert the photo print cartridge in its place. With the tri-color print cartridge and photo print cartridge installed, yo u have a six-ink system, which prov ides enhanced quality color photos. When you want to print regular text documents, swap the black print cartridge back in.
