1.If it is necessary to replace the fan, turn the fan and heat sink upside down with the fan toward you. 2.Remove the two Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws (1) that secure the fan to the heat sink. 3.Disengage the two clips (2) that secure the fan to the heat sink. 4.Remove the heat sink (3) from the fan. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2.Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3.Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4.Remove the battery (see Battery on page 48), and then remove the following components: ●Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 49) ●Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 51) ●WLAN module (see WLAN module on page 54) ●Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 56) ●Top cover (see Top cover on page 59) Component replacement procedures 85
●System board (see System board on page 72) ●Heat sink (see Fan and heat sink on page 79) Remove the processor: 1.Use a flat-bladed screw driver (1) to turn the processor locking screw one-half turn counterclockwise (2), until you hear a click. 2.Lift the processor (3) straight up, and remove it. NOTE:The gold triangle (4) on the processor must be aligned with the triangle icon embossed on the processor socket when you install the processor. LED board DescriptionSpare part number LED board640293-001 Before removing the LED board, follow these steps: 1.Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2.Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3.Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4.Remove the battery (see Battery on page 48), and then remove the following components: ●Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 49) ●Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 51) ●WLAN module (see WLAN module on page 54) ●Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 56) ●Top cover (see Top cover on page 59) ●System board (see System board on page 72) Remove the LED board: 1.Release the clips (1) built into the base enclosure that secure the LED board. 2.Release the LED board cable (2) from the base enclosure. 3.Remove the LED board and cable (3). Reverse this procedure to install the LED board and cable. CAUTION:Support the display assembly when removing the following screws. Failure to support the display assembly can result in damage to the display assembly and other computer components. 3.Remove the four Phillips PM2.5×6.0 screws (3) that secure the display assembly to the computer. 4.Remove the display assembly (4). 5.If it is necessary to replace the display bezel or any of the display assembly subcomponents: a.Remove the Mylar screw covers (1) and the two Phillips PM2.5×6.0 screws (2) that secure the display bezel to the display assembly. b.Flex the inside edges of the top edge (1), the left and right sides (2), and the bottom edge (3) of the display bezel until the bezel disengages from the display enclosure. c.Remove the display bezel (4). The display bezel is available using spare part number 639440-001. 6.If it is necessary to replace the webcam/microphone module: a.Detach and release the webcam/microphone module (1) as far as the webcam/microphone module cable allows. (The webcam/microphone module is attached to the display enclosure with double-sided tape.) 90 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures
b.Disconnect the webcam/microphone module (2) from the webcam/microphone module. c.Remove the webcam/microphone module. The webcam/microphone module is available using spare part number 637197-001. 7.If it is necessary to replace the hinge covers: a.Remove the Phillips PM2.5×6.0 (1) screws that secure the hinge covers to the display enclosure. b.Remove the hinge covers (2). The hinge covers are available using spare part number 639446-001. Component replacement procedures 91
8.If it is necessary to replace the display panel: a.Remove the four Phillips PM2.5×6.0 screws that secure the display panel to the display enclosure. b.Lift the top edge of the display panel, and then swing it up and forward until it rests upside down in front of the display enclosure. 92 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures
