Top cover DescriptionSpare part number Top cover487140-001 Before removing the top cover, follow these steps: 1.Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2.Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3.Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4.Remove the battery (see Battery on page 47). 5.Remove the following components: a.Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 53) b.Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 56) c.Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 61) d.Switch cover (see Switch cover on page 66) e.Display assembly (see Display assembly on page 75) Remove the top cover: 1.Turn the computer upside down, with the front toward you. 2.Remove the two rubber screw covers (1) and the seven Torx8 T8M2.5×9.0 screws (2) that secure top cover to the base enclosure. NOTE:All rubber screw covers are included in the Rubber Kit, spare part number 487145-001. Component replacement procedures 81

3.Remove the three Phillips PM2.5×3.0 screws (1) and the two Phillips PM2.5×3.0 broad-head screws (2) that secure the top cover to the computer. 4.Turn the computer right side up, with rear panel toward you. 5.Lift the rear edge of the top cover until it rests at an angle. 6.Release the ZIF connector to which the TouchPad cable (1) is attached, and disconnect the TouchPad cable from the ExpressCard board. NOTE:The fingerprint reader board is available only on select models. 82 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures

7.Disconnect the fingerprint reader board cable (2) from the ExpressCard board. 8.Remove the top cover. Reverse this procedure to install the top cover. TouchPad assembly DescriptionSpare part number For use only with computer models equipped with a fingerprint reader (includes a fingerprint reader board and cable)487134-001 For use only with computer models not equipped with a fingerprint reader 487135-001 Before removing the TouchPad assembly, follow these steps: 1.Shut down the computer. Remove the TouchPad assembly: 1.Hold the top cover above the work surface. 2.Release the TouchPad assembly (1) by pushing up on the front edge of the assembly from underneath the top cover. 3.Remove the TouchPad assembly (2) by sliding it up and forward at an angle Reverse this procedure to install the TouchPad assembly. ExpressCard board DescriptionSpare part number ExpressCard board (includes RTC battery) 487119-001 Before removing the ExpressCard board, follow these steps: 1.Shut down the computer. Reverse this procedure to install the ExpressCard board. Audio board DescriptionSpare part number Audio board (includes cable) 486250-001 Before removing the audio board, follow these steps: 1.Shut down the computer. NOTE:The audio board cable ground loop (2) is secured by the audio board rear screw. 2.Disconnect the speaker cable (3) from the audio board. 3.Disconnect the audio board cable (4) from the system board. 4.Release the audio board (1) by sliding it up and away from the front edge of the base enclosure. 5.Disconnect the microphone cable (2) from the audio board. 86 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures

6.Disconnect the modem module cable (3) from the modem module. 7.Remove the audio board. Reverse this procedure to install the audio board. Modem module NOTE:The modem module spare part kits do not include a modem module cable. The modem module cable is included in the Cable Kit, spare part number 487138-001. NOTE:The audio board cable ground loop (2) is secured by the modem module rear screw. 3.Lift the modem module (3) straight up to disconnect it from the audio board. 4.Remove the audio board. Reverse this procedure to install the modem module. Speaker DescriptionSpare part number Speaker487137-001 Before removing the speaker, follow these steps: 1.Shut down the computer.
