Installing the Automatic Document Feeder
Whenever you want to use the ADF, you need to remove the scanner cover and replace it 
with the ADF.

Warning:
The ADF is heavy so you may need to have someone help you lift it.
Note:
The ADF is large, so you should clear sufficient space around the scanner.
1. Make sure the scanner is turned off, then unplug the power cord.

5. Insert the installation screws that come with the ADF into the holes in the back of the 
scanner and secure them using the included screwdriver.
6. Align the installation screws with the holes in the ADF. Slide the holes over the 
installation screws.

Warning:
The ADF is heavy. Ask for assistance when lifting it.

7. Secure the knobs to the ends of the installation screws using the included screwdriver.
8. Connect the ADF cable to the scanner’s ADF connector.
9. Close the ADF.
10. Connect the power cord to the scanner and then turn on the scanner.

Feeder” on page 103.

Load only documents that meet the following specifications.
Make sure your documents meet the following conditions before loading them into the 
ADF.
❏The ink is dry.
❏The document has no holes and is not ripped or wrinkled.
❏The document has no staples, paper clips, or other objects attached to it; these may 
damage the feeder mechanism.
❏The document has no folds within 5 mm (0.2 inches) from the edges.
❏The document has no cut-out...

Caution:
❏Do not feed photographs or valuable original artwork into the ADF. Misfeeding may 
wrinkle or damage the original. Scan these documents on the document table instead.
❏Remove any documents from the document table and make sure there is no dust on the 
glass before loading documents in the ADF.

Placing Documents on the Document Table With the ADF Installed

Caution:
Do not place heavy objects on the document table glass and do not press the glass with too 
much force.

2. Place your document or photo face-down on the document table. Make sure the upper 
left corner of the document or photo is against the corner of the scanner, next to the 
arrow mark.
3. Close the ADF.
Note:
Opening the ADF while scanning is in progress will result in an option error and may result in a 
paper feeding error.

Scanning in Professional Mode Using the ADF
1. Load your documents in the ADF. See “Loading Documents in the Automatic Document
