3. Open cover C slightly, and then remove it slowly by bowing 
the center of the cover out.
4. Pull cover E upward to remove it while pushing the notches 
on both sides of the cover. Then, close cover E.
5. Align the two hooks on the bottom of the Duplex Unit with 
the holes on the printer, then insert the Duplex Unit firmly.

Make sure that the hooks fit into the holes securely. Otherwise, the 
cover cannot be closed securely.
6. Bind the two straps on both sides of the Duplex Unit to the 
printer with the screws.
7. Insert the connector into the printer.

8. Attach the connector cover that comes with the duplex unit. 
Then, put the connector harness through the hole on the 
connector cover.
9. Close cover D, and then tighten the two screws of both sides 
of the unit.
10. To confirm that the option is installed correctly, print a Status 
Sheet. See “Printing a Status Sheet” on page 193.
Note for Windows users:
If EPSON Status Monitor 3 is not installed, you have to make settings 
manually in the printer driver....

Removing the Duplex Unit
Follow the steps below to remove the optional Duplex Unit.
1. Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord and interface 
cable.
2. Remove the two screws from both sides of the unit, and then 
open cover D.
3. Remove the connector cover.
4. Remove the connector from the printer.
5. Loosen the screws and remove the two straps on both sides 
of the Duplex Unit from the printer.
6. Pull the Duplex Unit forward and remove it.
7. Replace cover E.

Memory Module
By installing a Dual In-line Memory Module (DIMM), you can 
increase printer memory up to 256 MB. You may want to add 
additional memory if you are having difficulty printing complex 
graphics.
This printer has one memory slot.
Note:
❏The maximum expandable memory is 256 MB.
❏Even if the 256 MB memory is added to the 32 MB memory, you 
cannot use more than 256 MB memory.

the memory module. Make sure that the upper slot (white) 
has a module at all times.

Caution:
❏Do not force the memory module into the slot.
❏Be sure to insert the memory module facing the correct 
way.
❏You should not remove any modules from the circuit 
board. Otherwise, the printer will not work.

6. Reconnect the interface cable and power cord and turn the 
printer on.

Removing a memory module

Caution:
Before you remove a memory module, be sure to discharge any 
static electricity by touching a grounded piece of metal. 
Otherwise, you may damage static-sensitive components.

Warning:
Be careful when working inside the printer as some components 
are sharp and may cause injury.
Perform the installation procedure in reverse.
When removing a memory module from its slot, press the clip 
and pull out the memory module as shown below.

Replacement Messages
When you see the following messages on the LCD panel or the 
window of EPSON Status Monitor 3, replace the appropriate 
consumable products. You can continue to print for a short time 
after a message appears, but Epson recommends early 
replacement to maintain print quality and extend the life of your 
printer.
Note:
To clear the warning, select Clear All Warning from the control...

printer stops printing and displays the following messages on the 
LCD panel or the window of EPSON Status Monitor 3. When this 
happens, the printer cannot resume printing until you replace the 
depleted consumable products.
* The letters C, M, Y, and K appear in this position, indicating the color of the 
toner to be replaced. For example, the message Y Toner Low means that 
the amount of toner remaining...
