    Optimum	installation	layout
    The DHT-FS3 can reproduce a realistic 5.1-channel surround sound for enhanced sense of presence using just the front speaker unit and the subwoofer.

    Installation	tips
    Installing as shown below provides a better surround effect.
    • Listen from a distance of at least 1 meter from the front speaker unit.
    •  Keep the front speaker unit away from the left and right walls.
    •  When mounting in a TV rack, use with the door opens.

    Use the exclusive connection cable to connect.
    b To  disconnect  the plug,  press  down  on the  lock  lever  and pull.

    Changing	the	speaker	connection	cable
    The included connection cable can be replaced, for example if you want a longer cable.
    q	Pressing the release button on the opposite side from lock lever, pull the cable out of the plug.
    w	Peel  off  the  sheathing  from  the  tip  of  the  new cable  and  twist  tightly  so  that  the  tip  is  not frayed.
    e	Pressing the release button, insert the cores into the plug, matching the cable’s + and – polarities with the + and – sides on the plug.
    r	Release  the  release  button  and  gently  pull  on the cable to check that it is secure.

    NOTE:
    • Do not place any heavy objects (TV, etc.) on top of the DHT-FS3.
    • The size of the room, the distance between the DHT-FS3 and the listening position, etc., can be set using the “ROOM” option in the “Detailed settings” (vpage 11).
    NOTE:• Be  sure  to  insert  the  connection  cable’s  plug fully  to  the  hilt.  Incomplete  connections  will cause noise or operating problems.

    • To enjoy surround sound, we recommend connecting the DVD player using digital audio connections.
    •  Connect the DVD player’s video output to the TV’s video input.
    Connecting	the	TV
    To enjoy surround-compatible digital broadcast programs, we recommend connecting the digital TV using 
    digital audio connections.
    •  When playing the 
    TV’s sound over the DHT-FS3, set the TV’s volume to the minimum.

    •  The DHT-FS3 is equipped for three digital audio inputs, as well as analog audio and iPod audio inputs.
    •  A DENON Control Dock for iPod (ASD-1R, sold separately) is necessary to connect an iPod.
    •  Here we describe how to connect a DVD player, TV and iPod.

    NOTE:• Remove the cap on the tip of the included optical transmission cable before connecting it.
    NOTE:
    • Do not plug in the power supply cord until all connections have been completed.
    •  When making connections, also refer to the operating instructions of the other components.
    •  Be sure to connect the left and right channels properly (left with left, right with right).
    •  Do not bundle power supply cords together with connection cables. Doing so can result in humming 
    or noise.

    • Use the separately sold Control Dock for iPod (ASD-1R) to connect an iPod to the DHT-FS3.
    •  When using a Control Dock for iPod (ASD-1R), the communications mode selection switch must be set. 
    For details, refer to the operating instructions of the Control Dock for iPod.
    •  When  connecting  the  exclusive  Control  Dock  for  iPod  (ASD-1R,  sold  separately),  connect  the  Control 
    Dock for iPod with the system cable included with the dock.
    •  When the Control Dock for iPod is connected, the function indicator switches from “AUX” to “iPod”.• When an Control Dock for iPod (ASD-1R) is connected, the input level adjustment is automatically set to “+6 dB” (vpage 11).
    NOTE:
    • Insert the plugs securely. Incomplete connections will result in the generation of noise.

    •  First  make  the  settings  for  the  listening  room  using  the  procedure described at “Simple Setup”.• As  necessary,  set  the  details  of  the  listening  room,  the  tone  and various modes using the procedure described at “Detailed Settings” (vpage 11).

      The “4”  indicator  lights  on  the  display,  and  the  input  signal  and surround mode indicators turn off.

    NOTE:• A  small  amount  of  power  is  consumed  when  in  the  standby 
    mode.
    •  If the power is turned off by pressing  while in the standby mode, the “4” indicator on the display may turn on for a while.
      If  you  wish  to  turn  the  power  back  on,  wait  at  least  10  seconds 
    before doing so.

    • Set this to “ON” when listening with the volume low  (for  example  at  night)  to  make  the  dialogs more distinct.• Valid for “DOLBY” and “DTS” digital audio input sources.
    • Turns on when an audio input is detected.
      Turns off if no signal is input for over 10 minutes.
    • Turn  this  on  when  connecting  an  AV  amplifier  and using  for  the  center  speaker  and  subwoofer.  The DHT-FS3’s surround-related functions are turned off.
    • The surround level is higher for the MOVIE mode than for the MUSIC mode.

    z When playing the sound of a TV, the volume may increase suddenly when a commercial starts. This is because the audio input signal has switched, and is not a malfunction. If the difference in volume level  bothers  you,  we  recommend  using  the  “SURR”  mode  in which  there  is  less  difference  in  volume  between  different signals.

    iPod®	playback
    The music on an iPod can be played by using the Control Dock for iPod (ASD-1R, sold separately).The iPod can  be  controlled  using  the  buttons  on  the  remote  control unit.

    About	the	speaker	mode
    This mode is for using the DHT-FS3 as the center speaker and subwoofer when upgrading into a home theater system centered around an AV amplifier in the future.
    • The 
    DHT-FS3’s surround function and function switching operation are turned off.

     Referring  to  the  included  list  of  preset  codes,  press 
    [NUMBER] to input the preset code (a 3-digit number) 
    for the manufacturer of the component whose signals 
    you want to store in the memory.

     To  store  the  codes  of  another  component  in  the 
    memory, repeat steps 1 to 3.

    component  to  be  operated  (TV, SAT/CABLE  or 
    DVD).

    b  For details, refer to the component’s operating instructions.b  While  this  remote  control  is  compatible  with  a  wide  range  of infrared  controlled  components,  it  may  be  the  case  that  some component models cannot be operated with this remote control.
    • 
    DENON and other makes of components can be operated by setting the preset memory.
    •  This remote control unit can be used to operate components of other 
    manufacturers without using the learning function by registering the manufacturer of the component as shown in the list of preset codes 
    (vEnd of this manual).
    • The  signals  for  the  pressed  buttons  are  emitted  while  setting  the preset  memory.  To  avoid  accidental  operation,  cover  the  remote control unit’s transmitting window while setting the preset memory.
    •  Depending  on  the  model  and  year  of  manufacture,  this  function 
    cannot be used for some models, even if they are of makes listed in the list of preset codes.
    •  Some manufacturers use more than one type of remote control code. 
    Refer to the included list of preset codes to change the number and verify correct operation.
    • When using a TV, SAT/CABLE and/or DVD, it is only possible to store the signals for one of these units in the preset memory.
