OSD Warning Messages When the monitor does not support a particular resolution mode you will see the following message : or or This means that the monitor cannot synchronize with the signal that it is receiving from the computer. See Monitor Specifications for the Horizontal and Vertical frequency ranges addressable by this monitor. Recommended mode is 2560 X 1440 . When monitor enters Power Save mode, the following message appears :

Please enter PBP submenu to bring back the PBP NOTE: The PBP functions can bring up a picture from a second image source. Thus you can watch images from 1 PC source (D - Sub, DVI, or DisplayPort) and 1 Video Source (Composite, Component or HDMI) .
Setting the Maximum Resolution 1. Right - click on the desktop and select Properties . 2. Select the Settings tab. 3. Set the screen resolution to 2560 x 1440 (DVI and DisplayPort) or 2048 x 1152 (VGA) or 1080p (HDMI, Component). 4. Click OK . If you do not see 2560 x 1440 as an option, you may need to update your graphics driver. Depending on your computer, complete one of the following procedures. If you have a Dell desktop or portable computer: Go to support.dell.com , enter your service tag, and download the latest driver for your graphics card. If you are using a non - Dell computer (portable or desktop): Go to the support site for your computer and download the latest graphic drivers. Go to your graphics card website and download the latest graphic drivers. Using the Dell Soundbar (Optional) The Dell Soundbar is a stereo two channel system mountable on Dell flat panel displays. The Soundbar has a capacitive touch front control panel, a white LED for power indication, and two audio headset jacks. Using the Tilt, Swivel and Vertical Extension NOTE: In DVI, please use the dual - link DVI cable shipped with your monitor for maximum preset resolution 2560x1440. 1. Attach mechanism 2. Back to Contents Page Setting Up Your Monitor Important instructions to set the display resolution to 2048x1152(VGA input source)/2560x1440 (DVI/Displayport input sources) (Maximum Resolution) For optimal display performance while using the Microsoft Windows ® operating systems, set the display resolution to 2048x1152/2560x1440 pixels by performing the following steps: In Windows XP: 1. Right - click on the desktop and click Properties . 2. Select the Settings tab. 3. Move the slider - bar to the right by pressing and holding the left - mouse button and adjust the screen resolution to 2048x1152/2560x1440 . 4. Click OK . In Windows Vista ® or Windows 7: 1. Right - click on the desktop and click Personalization . 2. Click Change Display Settings . 3. Move the slider - bar to the right by pressing and holding the left - mouse button and adjust the screen resolution to 2048x1152/2560x1440 . 4. Click OK . If you do not see 2048x1152/2560x1440 as an option, you may need to update your graphics driver. Back to Contents Page Setting Up the Monitor Users Guide Connecting the Monitor Organizing Your Cables Attaching the Soundbar (optional) Connecting Your Monitor To connect your monitor to the computer perform the following steps/instructions: l Turn off your computer and disconnect the power cable. l Connect the USB uplink cable. l Connect either the white (digital DVI - D) display connector cable, the blue (analog VGA) display connector cable, or the black DisplayPort cable to the corresponding video port on the back of your computer. Do not use all the cables on the same computer. Use all the cables only when they are connected to different computers with appropriate video systems. Connecting the White DVI Cable and the USB uplink cable Connecting the Blue VGA Cable and the USB uplink cable Connecting the Black DisplayPort Cable and the USB uplink cable After you have completed connecting the DVI/VGA /DisplayPort cable, follow the procedure below to complete setting up your monitor: l Plug the power cables for your computer and monitor into a nearby outlet. l Turn on the monitor and the computer. CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions . NOTE: USB uplink cable connection enables USB ports and card reader on the monitor to work. NOTE: Your monitor supports two DVI ports. You can choose the input source (DVI - D 1 or DVI - D 2) through the OSD menus Input source select option. NOTE: The graphics are used for the purpose of illustration only. Appearance of the the computer may vary.
If your monitor displays an image, installation is complete. If it does not display an image, see Solving Problems. l Use the cable management slot on the monitor stand to organize the cables. Organizing Your Cables After attaching all necessary cables to your monitor and computer, (See Connecting Your Monitor for cable attachment,) use the cable management slot to neatly organize all cables as shown above. Attaching the Soundbar (Optional) Back to Contents Page NOTE: If you are using DisplayPort cable as the input, change the input source through the OSD menus Input source select option to DisplayPort. 1. Working from the rear of the monitor, attach Soundbar by aligning the two slots with the two tabs along the bottom rear of the monitor. 2. Slide the Soundbar to the left until it snaps into place. Connect the S oundbar with the DC power connector. 4. Insert the mini stereo plug from the rear of the Soundbar into the computers audio output jack. NOTICE: Do not use with any device other than Dell Soundbar NOTE: Soundbar Power Connector +12V DC output is for optional Soundbar only.
Back to Contents Page Solving Problems Self - Test Built - in Diagnostics Common Problems Video Problems Product Specific Problems Universal Serial Bus (USB) Specific Problems Troubleshooting the Dell™ Soundbar (Optionalyf Card Reader Troubleshooting Self - Test Your monitor provides a self - test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self - test by performing the following steps: 1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor. 2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self - Test operation, remove both Digital (white connector) and the Analog (blue connector) cables from the back of computer. 3. Turn on the monitor. 4. This box also appears during normal system operation if the video cable becomes disconnected or damaged. 5. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the monitor. If your monitor screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system, because your monitor is functioning properly. Built - in Diagnostics Your monitor has a built - in diagnostic tool that helps you determine if the screen abnormality you are experiencing is an inherent problem with your monitor, or with your computer and video card. To run the built - in diagnostics: 1. Ensure that the screen is clean (no dust particles on the surface of the screen). 2. Unplug the video cable(s) from the back of the computer or monitor. The monitor then goes into the self - test mode. 3. On the front panel, touch and hold the button 1 and button 4 keys on the front panel, simultaneously for 2 seconds. A gray screen appears. CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the Safety Instructions . The floating dialog box should appear on - screen (against a black background) if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self - test mode, the power LED remains blue. Also, depending upon the selected input, one of the dialogs shown below will continuously scroll through the screen. or or NOTE: Self test feature check is not available for Composite, and Component video modes. NOTE: You can run the built - in diagnostics only when the video cable is unplugged and the monitor is in self - test mode .
4. Carefully inspect the screen for abnormalities. 5. Touch the button 4 key on the front panel again. The color of the screen changes to red. 6. Inspect the display for any abnormalities. 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to inspect the display in green, blue, black, and white colored screens . The test is complete when the white screen appears. To exit, touch the button 4 again. If you do not detect any screen abnormalities upon using the built - in diagnostic tool, the monitor is functioning properly. Check the video card and computer. Common Symptoms What You Experience Possible Solutions No Video/Power LED off No picture l Ensure that the video cable connecting the monitor and the computer is properly connected and secure. l Verify that the power outlet is functioning properly using any other electrical equipment. l Ensure that the power button is depressed fully. No Video/Power LED on No picture or no brightness l Increase brightness & contrast controls via OSD. l Perform monitor self - test feature check. l Check for bent or broken pins in the video cable connector. l Ensure that the correct input source is selected via the Input Source Select button. l Run the built - in diagnostics. Poor Focus Picture is fuzzy, blurry, or ghosting l Perform Auto Adjust via OSD. l Adjust the Phase and Pixel Clock controls via OSD. l Eliminate video extension cables. l Reset the monitor to Factory Settings. l Change the video resolution to the correct aspect ratio (16:10). Shaky/Jittery Video Wavy picture or fine movement l Perform Auto Adjust via OSD. l Adjust the Phase and Pixel Clock controls via OSD. l Reset the monitor to Factory Settings. l Check environmental factors. l Relocate the monitor and test in another room. Missing Pixels LCD screen has spots l Cycle power on - off. l Pixel that is permanently off is a natural defect that can occur in LCD technology.
