    CAUTION: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist 
    grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as a 
    connector on your computer).
     
    CAUTION: Only a certified service technician should perform repairs on your 
    computer. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by 
    your warranty.
     
    CAUTION: To help prevent damage to the system board, remove the main battery 
    (see Removing the Battery on page 15) before working inside the computer.
    Removing the Speakers
    1Follow the instructions in Before You Begin on page 9.
    2Remove the battery (see Removing the Battery on page 15).
    3Follow the instructions from step 3 to step 4 in Removing the Optical 
    Drive on page 17.
    4Remove the keyboard (see Removing the Keyboard on page 27).
    5Remove the palm-rest assembly (see Removing the Palm-Rest Assembly 
    on page 31).
    6Remove the status light board (see Removing the Status Light Board on 
    page 57).
    7Disconnect the speaker cable from the connector on the system board.
    8Make a note of the speakers cable routing and lift the speakers along with 
    the cable off the computer base.

    Replacing the Speakers 
    1Follow the instructions in Before You Begin on page 9.
    2Place the speakers on the computer base and route the speakers cable 
    through the routing guides.
    3Connect the speaker cable to the connector on the system board.
    4Replace the status light board (see Replacing the Status Light Board on 
    page 58).

    5Replace the palm-rest assembly (see Replacing the Palm-Rest Assembly 
    on page 35).
    6Replace the keyboard (see Replacing the Keyboard on page 29).
    7Follow the instructions from step 4 to step 5 in Replacing the Optical

    8Replace the battery (see Replacing the Battery on page 16).
     CAUTION: Before turning on the computer, replace all screws and ensure that no 
    stray screws remain inside the computer. Failure to do so may result in damage to 
    the computer.

    Removing the Thermal Fan

    2Remove the battery (see Removing the Battery on page 15).
    3Follow the instructions from step 3 to step 4 in Removing the Optical 
    Drive on page 17.
    4Remove the keyboard (see Removing the Keyboard on page 27).
    5Remove the palm-rest assembly (see Removing the Palm-Rest Assembly 
    on page 31).
    6Disconnect the thermal-fan cable from the connector on the system board.
    7Remove the two screws that secure the thermal fan to the computer base.
    8Lift the thermal fan along with the cable, off the computer base.

    Replacing the Thermal Fan
    1Follow the procedures in Before You Begin on page 9.
    2Place the thermal fan on the computer base and replace the two screws 
    that secure the thermal fan to the computer base.
    3Connect the thermal-fan cable to the connector on the system board.
    4Replace the palm-rest assembly (see Replacing the Palm-Rest Assembly 
    on page 35).

    2Remove any installed card or blank from the Media Card Reader.

    4Follow the instructions from step 3 to step 4 in Removing the Optical 
    Drive on page 17.
    5Remove the module cover (see Removing the Module Cover on 
    page 21).
    6Remove the memory module(s) (see Removing the Memory Module(s) 
    on page 23).
    7Remove the keyboard (see Removing the Keyboard on page 27).
    8Remove the palm-rest assembly (see Removing the Palm-Rest Assembly 
    on page 31).

    9Follow the instructions from step 6 to step 8 in Removing the Hard Drive 
    on page 49.
    10Remove the thermal fan (see Removing the Thermal Fan on page 65).
    11Disconnect the speaker cable, subwoofer cable, status-light board cable, 
    camera cable, and AC-adapter connector cable from the connectors on the 
    system board.
    12Lift the connector latch that secures the display cable to the connector on 
    the system board and disconnect the display cable.
    13Remove the six screws that secure the system board to the computer base.
