4-38 Dell Latitude XPi CD Service Manual System Board Assembly Figure 4-27. System Board Assembly Removal The system board’s BIOS chip contains the system service tag number, which is also visible on a bar-code label on the bottom of the computer. The replacement kit for the system board assembly includes a diskette that provides a utility for transferring the service tag number to the replacement system board assembly. Part or Assembly NameOrder Name System board assemblySVC,SYS,PLN,LXPiCD-150ST, WB,0M CAUTION: Dell uses the system’s service tag number to maintain a his- tory of the computer and its maintenance services. Do not neglect to transfer the service tag number to the replacement system board assem- bly (see step 3 of “Replacing the System Board Assembly” found later in this section). system board assembly bottom case assembly SB1 (5 mm) SB2 (5 mm) 5 mm main battery connector battery compartment PC Card ejectors molded tabs (3) I/O docking EMI clip I/O serial EMI clip

Disengage the front of the system board from the three molded tabs in the bottom case assembly. The tabs’ approximate location is shown in Figure 4-27. The tabs are located alongside the hard-disk drive compartment, inside the bottom case assembly. 10. Lift the system board assembly out of the bottom case assembly. NOTE: If the main battery insulator comes out with the system board assem- bly, detach the insulator and set it aside.CAUTION: To ensure maximum cooling for the microprocessor, do not touch the heat transfer area on the system board above the micro- processor or on the deck buoy plate. The oils in your skin reduce the heat transfer of the thermal pads. CAUTION: When removing the system board assembly, be careful not to damage the main battery connector and EMI shield on the bot- tom of the assembly.
