OSD Warning Messages Personalize There are 2 shortcut keys on the front panel. Select one control menu for each shortcut key to allow direct access. When the monitor does not support a particular resolution mode you will see the following message : or This means that the monitor cannot synchronize with the signal that it is receiving from the computer. See Monitor Specifications for the Horizontal and Vertical frequency ranges addressable by this monitor. The recommended mode is 1600x900. Select the Settings tab. 3. Set the screen resolution to 1600 x 900. 4. Click OK . Windows Vista ® or Windows ® 7: 1. Right - click on the desktop and select Personalization . 2. Back to Contents Page Setting Up the Monitor Attaching the Base Connecting the Monitor Attaching the Soundbar (Optional) Removing the Monitor Stand Attaching the Base After placing the monitor panel on a soft cloth or cushion, complete the following steps to attach the base. 1. Fit the groove on the back of the monitor to the two tabs on the upper part of the stand. 2. Lower the monitor so that the monitor mounting area snaps on to or locks on to the stand. Connecting the Monitor To connect your monitor to the computer perform the following steps/instructions: 1. Turn off your computer and disconnect the power cable. 2. Connect the white (digital DVI - DyfRUEOXHDQDORJ9*$\f display connector cable to the corresponding video port on the back of your computer. Do not use all the cables on the same computer. Use all of the cables only when they are connected to different computers with appropriate video systems. Connecting the blue VGA cable Connecting the White DVI Cable* (for IN2020M only) NOTE: The stand is detached when the monitor is shipped from the factory. CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions .
After you have completed connecting the VGA/DVI cable, follow the procedure below to complete your monitor setup: 1. Plug the power cables for your computer and monitor into a nearby outlet. 2. Turn on the monitor and the computer. If your monitor displays an image, installation is complete. If it does not display an image, see Solving Problems . Attaching the Soundbar (Optional) Removing the Monitor Stand NOTE: *Optional purchase item. To purchase a DVI cable, please visit Dell.com NOTE: The Graphics are used for the purpose of illustration only. Appearance of the the computer may vary. 1. Working from the rear of the monitor, attach the Soundbar by aligning the two slots with the two tabs along the bottom rear of the monitor. 2. Slide the Soundbar to the left until it snaps into place. Connect the S oundbar with the DC power connector. 4. Insert the mini stereo plug from the rear of the Soundbar into the computers audio output jack or the monitors audio output jack. NOTICE: Do not use with any device other than the Dell Soundbar.

Back to Contents Page Solving Problems Self - Test Built - in Diagnostics Common Problems Product - Specific Problems Troubleshooting the Dell™ Soundbar (Optionalyf Self - Test Your monitor provides a self - test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self - test by performing the following steps: 1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor. 2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self - Test operation, remove the Analog (blue connector) cable from the back of computer. 3. Turn on the monitor. 4. This box also appears during normal system operation, if the video cable becomes disconnected or damaged. The monitor will go into Power Save Mode after 15 minutes if left at this state. 5. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the monitor. If your monitor screen remains blank after you have performed Step 5, check your video controller and computer system. Built - in Diagnostics Your monitor has a built - in diagnostic tool that helps you determine if the screen abnormality you are experiencing is an inherent problem with your monitor, or with your computer and video card. To run the built - in diagnostics: 1. Ensure that the screen is clean (no dust particles on the surface of the screen). 2. Unplug the video cable(s) from the back of the computer or monitor. The monitor then goes into the self - test mode. 3. On the front panel, press and hold the shortcut button 1 and shortcut button 4 keys on the front panel, simultaneously for 2 seconds. A gray screen appears. 4. Carefully inspect the screen for abnormalities. CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the Safety Instructions . The floating dialog box should appear on - screen (against a black background) if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self - test mode, the power LED remains white. Also, the dialog shown below will continuously scroll through the screen. or NOTE: You can run the built - in diagnostics only when the video cable is unplugged and the monitor is in self - test mode .
5. Press the shortcut button 4 key on the front panel again. The color of the screen changes to red. 6. Inspect the display for any abnormalities. 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to inspect the display in green, blue, and white colored screens. The test is complete when the white screen appears. To exit, press the shortcut button 4 again. If you do not detect any screen abnormalities upon using the built - in diagnostic tool, the monitor is functioning properly. Check the video card and computer. Common Problems The following table contains general information about common monitor problems that you might encounter and the possible solutions. Common Symptoms What You Experience Possible Solutions No Video/Power LED off No picture l Ensure that the video cable connecting the monitor and the computer is properly connected and secure. l Verify that the power outlet is functioning properly using any other electrical equipment. l Ensure that the power button is depressed fully. No Video/Power LED on No picture or no brightness l Increase brightness & contrast controls via OSD. l Perform monitor self - test feature check. l Check for bent or broken pins in the video cable connector. l Run the built - in diagnostics. Poor Focus Picture is fuzzy, blurry, or ghosting l Perform Auto Adjust via OSD. l Adjust the Phase and Pixel Clock controls via OSD. l Eliminate video extension cables. l Reset the monitor to Factory Settings. l Change the video resolution to the correct aspect ratio (16:9). Shaky/Jittery Video Wavy picture or fine movement l Perform Auto Adjust via OSD. l Adjust the Phase and Pixel Clock controls via OSD. l Reset the monitor to Factory Settings. l Check environmental factors. l Relocate the monitor and test in another room. Missing Pixels LCD screen has spots l Cycle power on - off. l Pixel that is permanently off is a natural defect that can occur in LCD technology. l Run the built - in diagnostics. Stuck - on Pixels LCD screen has bright spots l Cycle power on - off. l Pixel that is permanently off is a natural defect that can occur in LCD technology. l Run the built - in diagnostics. Brightness Problems Picture too dim or too bright l Reset the monitor to Factory Settings. l Auto Adjust via OSD. l Adjust brightness & contrast controls via OSD. Horizontal/Vertical Lines Screen has one or more lines l Reset the monitor to Factory Settings. l Perform Auto Adjust via OSD. l Adjust Phase and Pixel Clock controls via OSD. l Perform monitor self - test feature check and determine if these lines are also in self - test mode. l Check for bent or broken pins in the video cable connector. l Run the built - in diagnostics. Synchronization Problems Screen is scrambled or appears torn l Reset the monitor to Factory Settings. l Perform Auto Adjust via OSD. l Adjust Phase and Pixel Clock controls via OSD. l Perform monitor self - test feature check to determine if scrambled screen appears in self mode. l Check for bent or broken pins in the video cable connector. l Restart the computer in the safe mode .
