NOTE:Alwayskeepthetrimminglinefullyextended.Linerelease becomesmoredifficultwhenthecuttinglinegetsshorter. Abladeinthecuttingheadshieldwillcutthelinetotheproper lengthifanyexcesslineisreleased. CAUTION:Donotremoveoralterthelinecuttingblade assembly.Excessivelinelengthwillmaketheunit overheat.Thismayleadtoseriouspersonalinjuryor damagetotheunit. RemovingOldTrimmingLineandObstructions Ifnecessary,removeanyoldtrimminglineand/orobstructionsfrom thecuttinghead. 1.Firmlypressinthetabsonthecuttinghead(Fig.16). 2.Removethespoolcover(Fig.16). 3.Removeanyoldtrimminglineand/orobstructions. 4.Useacleanclothtocleantheinnerreel,outerspoolandspool cover(Fig.16). 5.Alignthetabsonthespoolcoverwiththeholesontheouter spool(Fig.16).Pushthespoolcoverontotheouterspooluntil thetabssecurelysnapintotheholes. NOTE:Failuretokeeptheenginelevelmaycausetheoiltooverfill. 3.Cleantheareaaroundtheoilfillplug(Fig.18)topreventdebris fromenteringtheoilfillhole. 4.Unscrewtheoilfillplug. 5.Lookintotheoilfillhole;useaflashlightifnecessary.Theoil levelshouldjusttouchthebottomthreadoftheoilfillhole (Fig.19).Iftheoillevelistoolow,addoiltotheoilfillholeuntil theoilleveltouchesthebottomthreadoftheoilfillhole. NOTE:DONOToverfillthecrankcase. 6.Wipeupanyoilthatmayhavespilled. 7.Reinstalltheoilfillplug. NOTE:MakesuretheO-ringisinplaceontheoilfillplug(Fig.18). CHANGINGTHEOiL Changetheoilwhiletheengineisstillwarm.Theoilwillflowfreely andcarryawaymoreimpurities. 1.Cleantheareaaroundtheoilfillplug(Fig.18)topreventdebris fromenteringtheoilfillhole. 2.Unscrewtheoilfillplug. 3.Tiptheunitverticallytopourtheoiloutoftheoilfillholeandinto acontainer(Fig.20).Allowampletimeforcompletedrainage. NOTE:Disposeoftheoldoilaccordingtofederal,stateandlocal regulations. 4.Wipeupanyoilthatmayhavespilled. 5.Pour3.04fl.oz.(90ml)ofSAE30oilintotheoilfillhole. NOTE:DONOToverfill.RefertoCheckingtheOilLevel. NOTE:Usetheemptyoilbottlesavedfromtheinitialuseto measurethecorrectamountofoil.Filltheoilbottletothe3.04fl. oz(90ml)filllineindicatedonthebackofthebottle(Fig.21). 6.Wipeupanyoilthatmayhavespilled. 7.Reinstalltheoilfillplug. CleaningtheAirFilter 1.Opentheairfiltercover:pressinthelocktabandswingtheair filtercoverup(Fig.22). 2.Removetheairfilter(Fig.22). 3.Washtheairfilterindetergentandwater.Rinsetheairfilter thoroughlyandallowittodry. 4.LightlycoattheairfilterwithcleanSAE30oil. 5.Squeezetheairfiltertospreadandremoveexcessoil. 6.Reinstalltheairfilter(Fig.22). NOTE:Operatingtheunitwithouttheairfilterandairfiltercoverwill VOiDthewarranty. 7.Closetheairfiltercover:insertthetabsonthebackplateintothe slotsontheairfiltercover.Swingtheairfiltercoverdownand pressitcloseduntilthelocktabsnapsintoplace(Fig.22). Iftheengineidlestooquickly,turntheidlespeedscrew counterclockwise,1/8ofaturnatatime(asneeded)toreduce theidlespeed(Fig.23). NOTE:Thecuttingheadshouldnotspinwhentheengineidles.Ifit does,reducetheidlespeeduntilthecuttingheadstopsmoving. Long-termStorage 1.Removethefuelcap,tiptheunitanddrainthefuelintoan approvedcontainer.Reinstallthefuelcap. 2.Starttheengineandallowittorununtilitstalls.Thisensures thatallfuelhasbeendrainedfromthecarburetor. 3.Allowtheenginetocool.Removethesparkplugandput5 dropsofanyhighqualitymotoroilintothecylinder.Pullthe starterropeslowlytodistributetheoil.Reinstallthesparkplug. 4.Thoroughlycleantheunitandinspectitforanylooseor damagedparts.Repairorreplacedamagedpartsandtighten loosescrews,nutsorbolts. PreparingtheUnitforUseafterLong=termStorage 1.Removethesparkpluganddrainalloftheoilfromthecylinder. 2.Changetheoil.RefertoChangingtheOff. NOTE:Donotusefuelthathasbeenstoredformorethan30days.
