WHENTOCLEAN Youshouldcleanyourrevolverassoonafterfiringaspossibleso thatthejobwillbeeasierandtherewillbelessopportunityfor corrosiontostart.Whenyourrevolverhasnotbefired,cleanit periodically;wesuggestonceortwiceayearinatemperate climate,orasoftenasonceamonthinatropicalclimate.Ifyou carryaloadedrevolver,UNLOADitandcleanitatleastoncea month.Ifyougetyourrevolverwet,cleanitassoonaspossible. HOWTOCLEAN Thefollowingcleaningproceduremaybeusedbothperiodically andafterfiring;however,thoseitemsmarked * areunnecessary forperiodiccleaning. Materials:Cleaningrod,cottonflannelpatches(cuttofitsnugly intothebore),asmalltooth-brush,goodqualitylightgunoil,*gun cleaningsolution,andabrasswirebristleborecleaningbush. NOTE:Infreezingconditions(below32°ForQ°C)avoidtheuseof oilforlubrication;instead,applyadrylubricantsparingly. /:..I CLEANINGPROCEDUREI ili1.CAUTION:ENSURETHATTHEFIREARMISNOTLOADED. 2.Stripforcleaningaspreviouslydescribed. revolverasseverecasesresultinburringofthemetalaroundfiring pinholewhichcouldcontributetoeventualfiringfailures. 3.Attachcottonflannelpatchtoendofcleaningrod,insertitin muzzleandpassrodandpatchdownthroughbarrel.Repeat, changingpatchesuntillastpatchcomesoutclean. 4.Cleaneachofthesixchambersincylinderwithsimilarmethodto step3above. 5.Visuallyinspectbarrelandchambers;iftheyareclean,proceed directlytostep8,butifitremainsdirty,continuewithstep6. 6.*(NOTE:Thisitemshouldbeapplicableonlyafterfiring).Attach brasswirebristlebrushtocleaningrodanddipbrushingun cleaningsolution.Thoroughlyscruboutbarrelandcylindercham- bers,passingthebrushallthewaythroughbeforereversingthe movement.Ifyoutrytochangedirectionwithbrushinbarrel,the brushwillstick. 7.Repeatsteps3,4and5above. 8.Cleanrearfaceofbarrelandrevolverframe,usingasmalltoothbrush. 9.Lightlymoistenaflannelpatchwithgunoilandpassitonce throughthebarrel,soleavingathinfilmofoilontheinsidesurface. Ifitisnottobestored,orifitisbeingremovedfromstorageforuse, passadrypatchthroughbarrelandchamberstoremoveasmuch oilaspossible.(Seenoteoncoldweatherlubrication). 10.Checkthatflannelorbrushbristleshavenotbecomelodgedin anypartofrevolver,thenwipeallexternalsurfaceswithaflannel patchmoistenedwithgunoil.(Seenoteoncoldweatherlubrication). 11.Reassemblerevolver.SeeAssemblingAfterCleaning. 12.Againwipeexternalsurfaceswithoilmoistenedpatchto removeanyfingerprints.(Fingermoisture,ifleft,couldstarta corrosionprocess).(Seenoteoncoldweatherlubrication). 13.Removeanyguncleaningsolutionandoilfromgrip. ~ &CAUTION:ALWAYSUNLOADYOURREVOLVERFORSTORAGE ANDSTOREAMMUNITIONSEPARATELY.Keepandstoreyour revolverandammunitionsecurelylockedinseparatelocations outofreachandsightofchildren.(Childrenarenaturallycuri- ousanddonotalwaysbelievetherealdangerofguns).
