APPENDIX 223 Power does not turn on. Camera suddenly powers down. Image is not recorded when the shutter button is pressed.1) The battery is not oriented correctly. 2) The battery is dead. 1) Auto Power Off activated (page 44). 2) The battery is dead. 1) The camera is in the PLAY mode. 2) Flash unit is being charged. 3) Memory is full.1) Orient the battery correctly (page 32). 2) Charge the battery (page 33). If the battery goes dead soon after being charged, it means the battery has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced. Purchase a separately available NP-20 rechargeable lithium ion battery. 1) Turn power back on. 2) Charge the battery (page 33). 1) Press [ ] (REC) to enter the REC mode. 2) Wait until the flash unit finishes charging. 3) Transfer files you want to keep to your computer and then delete files from image memory, or use a different memory card. APPENDIX 224 1) Clean the lens. 2) Make sure the subject is centered in the focus frame when composing the image. 3) Use manual focus (page 77). 4) Mount the camera on a tripod. When composing the image, make sure the subject on which you want to focus is located inside the focus frame. 1) Select a different flash mode (page 61). 2) Charge the battery (page 33). 3) Select a different flash mode (page 61) or BEST SHOT scene (page 85). Charge the battery (page 33). 1) The lens is dirty. 2) The subject is not located in the center of the focus frame when you compose the image. 3) The subject you are shooting is a type that is not compatible with Auto Focus operation (page 72). 4) You are moving the camera. The image is not focused properly. 1)“ ” (flash off) is selected as the flash mode. 2) The battery is dead. 3) A scene that selects “ ” (flash off) as the flash mode is selected in the BEST SHOT mode. The battery is dead. Auto Focus does not focus properly. The subject is out of focus in the recorded image. The flash does not fire. Camera powers down during self-timer countdown. Image Recording Symptom Possible Cause Action
APPENDIX 225 Symptom Possible Cause Action Movies Monitor screen image is out of focus. Recorded images are not saved in memory. Vertical lines on the monitor screen. Out of focus images. Digital noise in images.1) You are using the Manual Focus mode and have not focused the image. 2) You are trying to use the Macro mode ( ) when shooting a scenery or portrait shot. 3) You are trying to use Auto Focus or the Infinity mode ( ) when shooting a close-up shot. 1) Camera powers down before the save operation is complete. 2) Removing the memory card before the save operation is complete. Recording a very brightly lit subject can cause a vertical band to appear in the monitor screen image. The subject is outside the shooting range of the camera. Sensitivity is increased automatically for dark subjects. Greater sensitivity increases the chance of digital noise.1) Focus the image (page 77). 2) Use Auto Focus for scenery and portrait shots. 3) Use the Macro mode () for close-ups. 1) When the battery indicator shows “”, charge the battery as soon as possible (page 33).2) Do not remove the memory card before the save operation is complete. This is a CCD phenomenon known as “vertical smear”, and does not indicate malfunction of the camera. Note that vertical smear is not recorded with the image in the case of a snapshot, but it is recorded in the case of a movie. Record within the allowable shooting range. Use a light or some other means to illuminate the subject. Image Recording
APPENDIX 226 Symptom Possible Cause Action Playback Color of the playback image is different from the image on the monitor screen during recording. Images are not displayed. All buttons and switches are disabled. Monitor screen is off. Cannot transfer files over a USB connection.Sunlight or light from another source is shining directly into the lens during recording. A memory card with non-DCF images recorded with another camera is loaded in the camera. Circuit problem caused by electrostatic charge, impact, etc. while the camera was connected to another device. USB communication is in progress. 1) Camera is not set securely on the USB cradle. 2) USB cable is not connected securely. 3) USB driver is not installed. 4) Camera is turned off.Position the camera so sunlight does not shine directly into the lens. This camera cannot display non-DCF images recorded onto a memory card using another digital camera. Remove the battery from the camera, reinsert it, and then try again. After confirming that the computer is not accessing camera memory, disconnect the USB cable. 1) Check the connection between the camera and USB cradle. 2) Check all connections. 3) Install the USB driver on your computer (page 180). 4) Press the [USB] button on the USB cradle. Other
APPENDIX 227 If you have problems installing the USB driver... You may not be able to install the USB driver properly if you use the USB cable to connect the camera to a computer running Windows 98SE/98 before installing the USB driver from the bundled CD-ROM, or if you have another type of driver installed. This will make it impossible for the computer to recognize the digital camera when it is connected. If this happens, you will need to re-install the camera’s USB driver. For information about how to re-install the USB driver, see the USB driver’s “Read me” file on the CD-ROM that comes bundled with the camera.
APPENDIX 228 Display Messages Battery is low. Cannot correct image! Can not find the file. Cannot register any more files. Card ERROR The battery is dead. File could not be saved because battery is low. Folder cannot be created. LENS ERROR Load paper! Memory Full No Favorites file! •You are attempting to connect the camera to a printer while the camera’s USB settings are not compatible with the USB system of the printer (page 160). •You are attempting to connect to a computer that does not have a USB driver installed (page 180). The battery is dead, so the recorded image could not be saved. This message appears when you try to record an image while there are 9,999 files stored in the 999th folder. If you want to record more files, delete files you no longer need (page 145). If the lens comes into contact with some obstacle while it is extending, this message appears, the lens retracts, and the camera turns off. Take action to remove the obstacle, and try turning on power again. The camera is in the Printer mode, and the printer is out of paper. Memory is full. If you want to record more files, delete files you no longer need (page 145). There is no FAVORITE file.
APPENDIX 229 One of the following problems occurred during printing. •Printer power off •Printer internal error Image compression could not be performed during image data storage for some reason. Record the image again. The camera is in the Printer mode, and the printer is running low on ink or is out of ink. Your camera system is corrupted. Contact your retailer or a CASIO service center. The LOCK switch of the SD memory card is locked. You cannot store images to or delete images from a memory card that is locked. There are no files in built-in memory or on the memory card. The image or movie whose setup you are trying to save is not supported by BEST SHOT. Printing Error Record Error Replenish ink! SYSTEM ERROR The card is locked. There are no files. There are no printing images. Set up DPOF. There is no image to register. This card is not formatted. This file cannot be played. This function cannot be used. This function is not supported for this file. The memory card loaded in the camera is not formatted. Format the memory card (page 166). The image file or audio file is corrupted, or is a type that cannot be displayed by this camera. You attempted to copy files from built-in memory to a memory card loaded in the camera while there is no memory card in the camera (page 167). The function you are trying to perform is not supported for the file on which you are trying to perform it.
