Procedure [r] (REC) * [MENU] * REC Tab * Self-timer With the Self-timer, pressing the shutter button starts a timer. The shutter is released and the image is shot after a fixed amount of time. • The front lamp flashes while the Self-timer countdown is in progress. • You can interrupt an ongoing Self-timer countdown by pressing [SET]. NOTE • The Self-timer cannot be used together with the following features. Normal-speed Continuous Shutter, High-speed Continuous Shutter, some BEST SHOT scenes (Prerecord (Movie), Voice Recording) • The Triple Self-timer cannot be used together with the following features. X3 (Triple Self-timer)Shoots three images: one image 10 seconds after the shutter button is pressed, and the next two images as soon as the camera is ready after shooting the previous image. How long it takes for the camera to get ready to shoot depends on the image size and quality settings, whether or not a memory card is loaded in the camera, and the flash charge condition. Procedure [r] (REC) * [MENU] * REC Tab * Face Recognition For details, see the Control Panel procedure on page 32. Procedure [r] (REC) * [MENU] * REC Tab * Anti Shake You can turn on the camera’s Anti Shake feature to reduce image blur due to subject movement or camera movement when shooting a moving subject using telephoto, when shooting a fast-moving subject, or when shooting under dim lighting conditions. NOTE • ISO sensitivity, aperture, and shutter speed do not appear on the monitor screen when you half-press the shutter button while “Auto” is selected. These values will appear briefly, however, in the preview image that is displayed immediately after you shoot a snapshot. • If the flash fires, the Anti Shake icon S will remain on the display, even though Anti Shake does not function during flash photography. • Shooting with Anti Shake can cause an image to appear somewhat coarser than normal and can cause slight deterioration of image resolution. • Anti Shake may not be able to eliminate the effects of camera or subject movement when movement is severe. 68Advanced Settings Procedure [r] (REC) * [MENU] * Quality Tab * EV Shift For details, see the Control Panel procedure on page 41. Procedure [r] (REC) * [MENU] * Quality Tab * White Balance You can adjust white balance to match the source of light available where you are shooting and avoid the blue cast that results when shooting outdoors when it is cloudy, and the green cast that results when shooting under fluorescent lighting. • When “Auto” is selected for the white balance setting, the camera automatically determines the white point of the subject. Certain subject colors and light source conditions can cause problems when the camera tries to determine the white point, which makes proper white balance adjustment impossible. If this happens, select the white balance setting that matches your shooting conditions (Daylight, Overcast, etc.) Correcting Image Brightness (EV Shift) Controlling White Balance (White Balance) AutoConfigures the camera to adjust white balance automatically (Daylight)For shooting outdoors on a clear day (Overcast)For shooting outdoors on an overcast rainy day, in the shade, etc. (Shade)For shooting on a clear day in the shade of trees or buildings (Day White Fluorescent)For shooting under white or day white fluorescent lighting (Daylight Fluorescent)For shooting under daylight fluorescent lighting (Tungsten)For shooting under light bulb lighting ManualFor configuring the camera manually to suit a particular light source. 1Select “Manual”. 2Under the lighting conditions you plan to use when shooting, point the camera at a blank white piece of paper so it fills the entire monitor screen and then press the shutter button. 3Press [SET]. 69Advanced Settings Procedure [r] (REC) * [MENU] * Quality Tab * ISO For details, see the Control Panel procedure on page 40. Procedure [r] (REC) * [MENU] * Quality Tab * Metering The metering mode determines what part of the subject is metered for exposure. • The currently selected metering mode is indicated by an icon on the snapshot screen. No icon is displayed when “Multi” is selected as the metering mode. Specifying ISO Sensitivity (ISO) Specifying the Metering Mode (Metering) MultiMulti-pattern metering divides the image into sections and measures the light in each section for a balanced exposure reading. This type of metering provides error-free exposure settings for a wide range of shooting conditions. Center WeightedCenter weighted metering concentrates on the center of the focus area to measure light. This type of metering is best when you want some level of control over contrast. SpotSpot metering takes readings at a very small area. Use this metering method when you want exposure to be set according to the brightness of a particular subject, without being affected by surrounding conditions. B N
