After you lock the focus, the focal position will not change even when you release your finger from the shutter button. 1 Lock the focus. zzWith the shutter button pressed halfway, press the button. zzThe focus is now locked, and [%] is displayed. zzTo unlock the focus, release the shutter button and press the button again. In this case, [%] is no longer displayed. 2 Compose the shot and shoot. Flash Still Images Changing the Flash Mode You can change the flash mode to match the shooting scene. For details on the flash range, see “Flash Range” ( = 155). zzPress the button, press the buttons to choose a flash mode, and then press the button. zzThe option you configured is now displayed. [] AutoFires automatically in low-light conditions. [h] OnFires for each shot. [Z] Slow SynchroFires to illuminate the main subject (such as people) while shooting a\ t a slower shutter speed to illuminate backgrounds out of flash range. • In [Z] mode, mount the camera on a tripod or take other measures to keep it still and prevent camera shake. Additionally, you should set [IS Mode] to [Off] when using a tripod or other means to secure the camera (= 63). • In [Z] mode, even after the flash fires, ensure that the main subject does not move until the shutter sound is finished playing.

Still Images Shooting with the FE Lock Just as with the AE lock (= 53), you can lock the exposure for the flash shots. 1 Set the flash to [h] (= 61). 2 Lock the flash exposure. zzAim the camera at the subject to shoot with the exposure locked. ContinuousOptimal image stabilization for the shooting conditions is automatically\ applied (Intelligent IS) ( = 30). Shoot Only* Image stabilization is active only at the moment of shooting. Off Deactivates image stabilization. * The setting is changed to [Continuous] for movie recording. • If image stabilization cannot prevent camera shake, mount the camera on a tripod or take other measures to hold it still. In this case, set [IS Mode] to [Off]. Movies Shooting Movies with Subjects at the Same Size Shown before Shooting Normally, once movie recording begins, the image display area changes and subjects are enlarged to allow for correction of significant camera shake. To shoot subjects at the same size shown before shooting, you can choose not to reduce significant camera shake. zzFollow the steps in “Changing the IS Mode Settings” (= 63) to access the [IS Settings] screen. zzChoose [Dynamic IS], and then choose [2] (= 22). • You can also set [IS Mode] to [Off], so that subjects are recorded at the same size shown before shooting.

To view the next image, press the button. zzTo access Scroll Display mode, press and hold the buttons for at least one second. In this mode, press the buttons to browse through images. zzTo return to single-image display, press the button. zzTo browse images grouped by shooting date, press the buttons in Scroll Display mode. zzMovies are identified by a [] icon. Still ImagesMovies Histogram zzThe graph in detailed information display (= 66) is a histogram showing the distribution of brightness in the image. The horizontal axis represents the degree of brightness, and the vertical axis, how much of the image is at each level of brightness. Viewing the histogram is a way to check exposure. Still ImagesMovies GPS Information Display zzUsing a smartphone connected to the camera via Wi-Fi, you can geotag images on the camera, adding information such as latitude, longitude, and elevation (= 107). Geotagged images are labeled with a [] icon in detailed information display. Press the button to view the information recorded. zzLatitude, longitude, elevation, and UTC (shooting date and time) are listed from top to bottom. zzPress the button again to return to detailed information display. Viewing by DateDigest movies can be viewed by date. 1 Choose a movie. zzPress the button, choose [List/ Play Digest Movies] on the [1] tab, and then choose a date (= 22). 2 Play the movie. zzPress the button to start playback.

You can also protect (= 72) or delete (= 74) these images all at once. PeopleDisplays images with detected faces. Shot DateDisplays the images shot on a specific date. Favorites Displays images tagged as favorites ( = 77). Still image/MovieDisplays still images, movies, or movies shot in [] mode (= 28). 1 Choose a search condition. zzPress the button, choose [] in the menu, and choose a condition (= 21). zzWhen you have selected [] or [], choose the condition by pressing the buttons on the screen displayed, and then press the < m> button. 2 View the filtered images. zzImages matching your conditions are displayed in yellow frames. To view only these images, press the < q> buttons. zzTo cancel filtered display, choose [] in step 1. • When the camera has found no corresponding images for some conditions, those conditions will not be available. Browsing and Filtering Images Still ImagesMovies Navigating through Images in an Index By displaying multiple images in an index, you can quickly find the images you are looking for. 1 Display images in an index. zzMove the zoom lever toward < g> to display images in an index. Moving the lever again will increase the number of images shown. zzTo display fewer images, move the zoom lever toward < k>. Fewer images are shown each time you move the lever. 2 Choose an image. zzPress the buttons to choose an image. zzAn orange frame is displayed around the selected image. zzPress the button to view the selected image in single-image display.

You can protect, erase, or print all images found or add them to a photobook by choosing [Select All Images in Search] in “Protecting Images” (= 72), “Erasing Multiple Images at Once” (= 74), “Adding Images to the Print List (DPOF)” (= 131), or “Adding Images to a Photobook” (= 134). • If you edit images and save them as new images ( = 78 – 81), a message is displayed, and the images that were found are no longer shown. By choosing [All Images in Group] for “Protecting Images” (= 72), “Erasing Multiple Images at Once” ( = 74), “Adding Images to the Print List (DPOF)” (= 131), or “Adding Images to a Photobook” ( = 134), all images in the group can be manipulated at once. • To ungroup images so that they are displayed only as single still images,\ choose MENU ( = 22) ► [1] tab ► [Group Images] ► [Off]. However, grouped images cannot be ungrouped during individual playback. • In [ ] mode, the simultaneous display after step 2 in “Enjoying a Variety of Images from Each Shot (Creative Shot)” (= 44) is only shown immediately after you shoot.

You can magnify images up to about 10x by continuing to hold the zoom lever. zzTo zoom out, move the zoom lever toward . You can return to single- image display by continuing to hold it. 2 Move the display position and switch images as needed. zzTo move the display position, press the buttons. zzWhile [] is displayed, you can switch to [] by pressing the button. To switch to other images while zoomed, press the buttons. Press the button again to restore the original setting. • You can return to single-image display from magnified display by pressing the button. Approximate Position of Displayed Area Still ImagesMovies Viewing Slideshows Automatically play back images from a memory card as follows. Each image is displayed for about three seconds. zzPress the button, choose [.] in the menu, and choose the desired option (= 21). zzThe slideshow will start after [Loading image] is displayed for a few seconds. zzPress the button to stop the slideshow. • The camera’s power-saving functions ( = 19) are deactivated during slideshows. • To pause or resume slideshows, press the < m> button. • You can switch to other images during playback by pressing the < q> buttons. For fast-forward or fast-rewind, hold the < q> buttons down. • In image search mode ( = 68), only images matching search conditions are played. Changing Slideshow SettingsYou can set up slideshows to repeat, and you can change the transitions between images and the display duration of each image. 1 Access the setting screen. zzPress the button, and then choose [Slideshow] on the [ 1] tab (= 22).
