61 Still ImagesMovies Viewing After shooting images or movies, you can view them on the screen as follows. 1 Enter Playback mode. zzPress the button. zzYour last shot is displayed. 2 Browse through your images. zzTo view the previous image, press the button. To view the next image, press the button. zzPress and hold the buttons to browse through images quickly. zzMovies are identified by a [] icon. To play movies, go to step 3. 3 Play movies. zzTo start playback, press the button, press the buttons to choose [ ], and then press the button again. 4 Adjust the volume. zzPress the buttons to adjust the volume. zzTo adjust the volume when the volume indicator is no longer displayed, press the buttons. 5 Pause playback. zzTo pause or resume playback, press the button. zzAfter the movie is finished, [] is displayed. • To switch to Shooting mode from Playback mode, press the shutter button halfway. • To have the most recent shot displayed when you enter Playback mode, choose MENU ( = 22) ► [1] tab ► [Resume] ► [Last shot]. • To change the transition shown between images, access MENU ( = 22) and choose your desired effect in [1] tab ► [Transition]. Still ImagesMovies Histogram zzThe graph in detailed information display (= 62) is a histogram showing the distribution of brightness in the image. The horizontal axis represents the degree of brightness, and the vertical axis, how much of the image is at each level of brightness. Viewing the histogram is a way to check exposure. High Dark Low Bright Browsing and Filtering Images Still ImagesMovies Navigating through Images in an Index By displaying multiple images in an index, you can quickly find the images you are looking for. 1 Display images in an index. zzMove the zoom lever toward < g> to display images in an index. Moving the lever again will increase the number of images shown. zzTo display fewer images, move the zoom lever toward < k>. Fewer images are shown each time you move the lever. 2 Choose an image. zzPress the buttons to choose an image. zzAn orange frame is displayed around the selected image. zzPress the button to view the selected image in single-image display. 63 Still ImagesMovies Finding Images Matching Specified Conditions Find desired images quickly on a memory card full of images by filtering image display according to your specified conditions. You can also protect (= 65) or delete (= 67) these images all at once. Shot DateDisplays the images shot on a specific date. Still image/MovieDisplays only still images or movies. 1 Choose the first condition for image display or navigation. zzPress the button, choose [] in the menu, and choose a condition (= 21). 2 Choose the second condition for image display or navigation. zzPress the buttons to choose a condition, and then press the button. 3 View the filtered images. zzImages matching your conditions are displayed in yellow frames. To view only these images, press the < q> buttons. zzTo cancel filtered display, choose [] in step 1. • When the camera has found no corresponding images for some conditions, those conditions will not be available. • To show or hide information, press the < p> button in step 3. • Options for viewing the images found (in step 3) include “Navigatin\ g through Images in an Index” ( = 62), “Magnifying Images” ( = 64), and “Viewing Slideshows” ( = 64). You can protect, erase, or print all images found or add them to a photobook by choosing [Select All Images in Search] in “Protecting Images” (= 65), “Erasing Multiple Images at Once” ( = 67), “Adding Images to the Print List (DPOF)” (= 91), or “Adding Images to a Photobook” (= 93). • If you edit images and save them as new images ( = 69 – 71), a message is displayed, and the images that were found are no longer shown. 64 Still ImagesMovies Viewing Slideshows Automatically play back images from a memory card as follows. Each image is displayed for about three seconds. zzPress the button, choose [.] in the menu, and choose the desired option (= 21). zzThe slideshow will start after [Loading image] is displayed for a few seconds. zzPress the button to stop the slideshow. • The camera’s power-saving functions ( = 19) are deactivated during slideshows. • To pause or resume slideshows, press the < m> button. • You can switch to other images during playback by pressing the < q> buttons. For fast-forward or fast-rewind, hold the < q > buttons down. • In image search mode ( = 63), only images matching search conditions are played. Image Viewing Options Still Images Magnifying Images 1 Magnify an image. zzMoving the zoom lever toward < k> will zoom in and magnify the image. You can magnify images up to about 10x by continuing to hold the zoom lever. zzTo zoom out, move the zoom lever toward . You can return to single- image display by continuing to hold it. 2 Move the display position and switch images as needed. zzTo move the display position, press the buttons. zzWhile [] is displayed, you can switch to [] by pressing the button. To switch to other images while zoomed, press the buttons. Press the button again to restore the original setting. • You can return to single-image display from magnified display by pressing the button. 65 Changing Slideshow SettingsYou can set up slideshows to repeat, and you can change the transitions between images and the display duration of each image. 1 Access the setting screen. zzPress the button, and then choose [Slideshow] on the [1] tab (= 22). 2 Configure the settings. zzChoose a menu item to configure, and then choose the desired option ( = 22). zzTo start the slideshow with your settings, choose [Start] and press the button. zzTo return to the menu screen, press the button. Still ImagesMovies Protecting Images Protect important images to prevent accidental erasure by the camera (= 67). zzPress the button, and then choose [:] in the menu (= 21). [Protected] is displayed. zzTo cancel protection, repeat this process and choose [ :] again, and then press the button. • Protected images on a memory card will be erased if you format the card (= 75, 76). • Protected images cannot be erased using the camera’s erasure function. To erase them this way, first cancel protection. Choosing Images Individually 1 Choose [Select]. zzFollowing step 2 in “Using the Menu” (= 66), choose [Select] and press the button. 2 Choose an image. zzPress the buttons to choose an image, and then press the < m> button. 67 Still ImagesMovies Erasing Images You can choose and erase unneeded images one by one. Be careful when erasing images, because they cannot be recovered. However, protected images (= 65) cannot be erased. 1 Choose an image to erase. zzPress the buttons to choose an image. 2 Erase the image. zzPress the button. zzAfter [Erase?] is displayed, press the buttons to choose [Erase], and then press the button. zzThe current image is now erased. zzTo cancel erasure, press the buttons to choose [Cancel], and then press the button. Erasing Multiple Images at Once You can choose multiple images to erase at once. Be careful when erasing \ images, because they cannot be recovered. However, protected images (= 65) cannot be erased. 69 2 Rotate the image. zzPress the buttons to choose an image. zzThe image is rotated 90° each time you press the button. zzTo return to the menu screen, press the button. • Rotation is not possible when [Auto Rotate] is set to [Off] (= 69). Deactivating Auto Rotation Follow these steps to deactivate automatic image rotation, which rotates\ images based on the current camera orientation. zzPress the button, choose [Auto Rotate] on the [1] tab, and then choose [Off] (= 22). • Images cannot be rotated ( = 68) when you set [Auto Rotate] to [Off]. Additionally, images already rotated will be displayed in the original orientation. Editing Still Images • Image editing ( = 69 – 71) is only available when the memory card has sufficient free space. Still Images Resizing Images Save a copy of images at a lower resolution. 1 Choose [Resize]. zzPress the button and choose [Resize] on the [1] tab (= 22). 2 Choose an image. zzPress the buttons to choose an image, and then press the < m> button. 3 Choose an image size. zzPress the buttons to choose the size, and then press the button. zz[Save new image?] is displayed. 4 Save the new image. zzPress the buttons to choose [OK], and then press the button. zzThe image is now saved as a new file. [Display new image?] is displayed. zzPress the buttons to choose [Yes], and then press the button. zzThe saved image is now displayed. • Editing is not possible for images shot at a resolution of [] or [] (= 35). • Images cannot be resized to a higher resolution. Still Images Correcting Image Brightness (i-Contrast) Excessively dark image areas (such as faces or backgrounds) can be detected and automatically adjusted to the optimal brightness. Insufficient overall image contrast is also automatically corrected, to make subjects\ stand out better. Choose from four correction levels, and then save the image as a separate file. 1 Choose [i-Contrast]. zzPress the button, and then choose [i-Contrast] on the [1] tab (= 22). 2 Choose an image. zzPress the buttons to choose an image, and then press the < m> button. 3 Choose an option. zzPress the buttons to choose an option, and then press the < m> button. 4 Save as a new image and review. zzFollow steps 4 – 5 in “Resizing Images” (= 69 – 70). • For some images, correction may be inaccurate or may cause images to appear grainy. • Images may look grainy after repeated editing using this function. • If [Auto] does not produce the expected results, try correcting images u\ sing [Low], [Medium], or [High]. Still Images Correcting Red-Eye Automatically corrects images affected by red-eye. You can save the corrected image as a separate file. 1 Choose [Red-Eye Correction]. zzPress the button, and then choose [Red-Eye Correction] on the [ 1] tab (= 22). 2 Choose an image. zzPress the buttons to choose an image.
