31 Still ImagesMovies Using the Self-Timer With the self-timer, you can include yourself in group photos or other timed shots. The camera will shoot about 10 seconds after you press the shutter button. 1 Configure the setting. zzPress the button, choose [] in the menu, and then choose the [ ]] option (= 21). zzOnce the setting is complete, []] is displayed. 2 Shoot. zzFor Still Images: Press the shutter button halfway to focus on the subject, and then press it all the way down. zzFor Movies: Press the movie button. zzOnce you start the self-timer, the lamp will blink and the camera will play a self- timer sound. zzTwo seconds before the shot, the blinking and sound will speed up. 32 Still ImagesMovies Customizing the Self-TimerYou can specify the delay (0 – 30 seconds) and number of shots (1 –\ 10). 1 Choose [$]. zzFollowing step 1 in “Using the Self-Timer” (= 31), choose [$] and press the button. 2 Configure the setting. zzPress the buttons to choose [Delay] or [Shots]. zzPress the buttons to choose a value, and then press the < m> button. zzOnce the setting is complete, [$] is displayed. zzFollow step 2 in “Using the Self-Timer” (= 31) to shoot. • For movies shot using the self-timer, [Delay] represents the delay before recording begins, but the [Shots] setting has no effect. • When you specify multiple shots, image brightness and white balance are \ determined by the first shot. More time is required between shots when the flash fires or when you have specified to take many shots. Shooting will stop automatically when the memory card becomes full. • When a delay longer than two seconds is specified, two seconds before the shot, the lamp blinking and self-timer sound will speed up. (The lamp w\ ill remain lit in case the flash fires.) Still Images Deactivating the Flash Prepare the camera for shooting without the flash as follows. zzPress the button several times until [!] is displayed. zzThe flash will no longer be activated. zzTo activate the flash, press the button again. The flash will automatically fire in low-light conditions. • If a blinking [] icon is displayed when you press the shutter button halfway in camera-shake inducing, low-light conditions, mount the camera on a tripod or take other measures to keep it still. 33 Still Images Adding a Date Stamp The camera can add the shooting date to images, in the lower-right corne\ r. However, note that date stamps cannot be edited or removed, so confirm beforehand that the date and time are correct (= 12). 1 Configure the setting. zzPress the button, choose [Date Stamp ] on the [4] tab, and then choose the desired option ( = 22). zzOnce the setting is complete, [] is displayed. 2 Shoot. zzAs you take shots, the camera adds the shooting date or time to the lower-right corner of images. zzTo restore the original setting, choose [Off] in step 1. • Date stamps cannot be edited or removed. • Shots taken without adding a date stamp can be printed with one as follo\ ws. 34 Still Images Continuous Shooting Hold the shutter button all the way down to shoot continuously. For details on the continuous shooting speed, see “Continuous Shootin\ g Speed” (= 11 3). 1 Configure the setting. zzPress the button, choose [] in the menu, and then choose [ W] (= 21). zzOnce the setting is complete, [W] is displayed. 2 Shoot. zzHold the shutter button all the way down to shoot continuously. • Cannot be used with the self-timer ( = 31). • Shooting may stop momentarily or continuous shooting may slow down depending on shooting conditions, camera settings, and the zoom position. • As more shots are taken, shooting may slow down. • Shooting may slow down if the flash fires. Still ImagesMovies Using Eco Mode This function allows you to conserve battery power in Shooting mode. Whe\ n the camera is not in use, the screen quickly darkens to reduce battery consumption. 1 Configure the setting. zzPress the button several times until [] is displayed. zzThe screen darkens when the camera is not used for approximately two seconds; approximately ten seconds after darkening, the screen turns off. The camera turns off after approximately three minutes of inactivity. zzBy pressing the button again, [] is displayed, and Eco Mode is deactivated. 2 Shoot. zzTo activate the screen and prepare for shooting when the screen is off but the lens is still out, press the shutter button halfway.
