Advanced Printing 27 „Printing Photographs Directly from a Canon Bubble Jet Direct Compatible Digital Camera Media Types for Digital Camera When you connect a digital camera, you can use the following media: zFor the digital camera operation method and troubleshooting, refer to your digital camera manual. For print error messages, see “C Cannot Print Properly from the Digital Camera”on page 80. zBy operating the digital camera, you can make the following prints: - You can make a standard print from the image displayed in the single display mode or in the index display mode. - You can print specified numbers of images, or make an index print by editing the DPOF. - For the images taken with an ExifPrint-compatible digital camera, the Photo Optimizer PRO function can be used. - If date printing is set from the digital camera, the date when the photograph was taken is to be printed (excluding the index print). - Images will be scaled automatically according to the image size set on the digital camera and the size of the media set on the printer. zThe digital camera does not support the following functions: - Print quality setting -Printer maintenance zImages other than Exif may not be index-printed. Advanced Printing 28 Accessing the Printer Driver The PPrinter Properties dialog box can be opened from either within an application, or directly from the Windows S Start menu. This manual refers to Windows XP operation. The operations may vary depending on your operating system. „Opening the Printer Properties Dialog Box from Your Application Program Depending on your application program, the command and menu names may differ, and there may be more steps involved in opening the P Printer Properties dialog box. For more details, see the user’s manual for your application. 1In your application, select the command to print a document. The PPrint dialog box can usually be opened by selecting PPrint from the FFile menu. 2Ensure that the name of your printer is selected. Then click PPreferences (or Properties). The PPrinter Properties dialog box opens. „Opening the Printer Properties Dialog Box Directly from the Start Menu This method is used for maintenance operations, such as PPrint Head Cleaning, or to specify printer settings common to all application programs. 1Click SStart and select CControl Panel,PPrinters and OOther Hardware, and then Printers and Faxes. For non-Windows XP, click SStart, select SSettings, and then PPrinters. 2Double-click the icon of your printer. 3Open the FFile menu and select PPrinting Preferences (or PProperties). In Windows NT 4.0, select DDocument Default. (iP4000 only) The P Printer Properties dialog box opens. When opening the P Printer Properties dialog box from PProperties, the default Window tabs (e.g., the P Ports tab, or the DDetails tab) are displayed. These tabs are not displayed, when the P Printer Properties dialog box is opened from PPrinting Preferences or applications. For details about these tabs, refer to the Windows documentation.
Advanced Printing 29 Adjusting the Print Quality for Photographs „Improving the Quality of Printed Images Two important factors control the quality and output of your printed images: Paper and Ink Using recommended Canon paper, specialty media, and inks for printing photographs can significantly improve the quality of your printouts. See inside the back cover for a list of Canon Specialty Papers and ink tanks for this printer. For more detailed information, refer to “Printing Media” in the User’s Guide. Printer Driver Settings The printer driver has a variety of settings that can be used to creatively enhance the colors and output of your photographs. Many of these features are covered in this chapter. You can also access the online help in either of the following ways depending on your operating system: In Windows zPress the F F1 key. zClick ? in the upper right corner, then click the feature you want to know more about. zClick the Help button when displayed. In Macintosh zClick ? in the P Page Setup dialog box or the PPrint dialog box. „Adjusting Print Quality Features that affect the appearance and quality of your printed images can be controlled with the printer driver. Your printer automatically adjusts printer settings to improve print quality based on the media type (plain paper, Photo Paper Pro, and so on). You can also customize the P Print Quality settings if desired.
Advanced Printing 30 To manually adjust Print Quality settings: 1Open the PPrinter Properties dialog box. See“OOpening the Printer Properties Dialog Box from Your Application Program”on page 28. 2On the MMain tab, select CCustom from PPrint Quality, then click SSet to open the S Set PrintQuality dialog box. 3Move the slide bar to adjust the print quality. 4When the process is complete, click OOK. 5Click PPrint or OOK. 1Open the PPrint dialog box. See“PPrinting with Macintosh”on page 18. 2Select QQuality & Media from the pop-up menu, and then click DDetailed Setting.
Advanced Printing 31 3Move the slide bar to adjust the print quality. 4When the process is complete, click PPrint. To automatically optimize the image: Photo Optimizer PRO automatically adjusts the photographs taken with a digital camera. Use this feature to compensate for unsatisfactory color balance and over- or under-exposure before printing. P Photo Optimizer PRO is available for Windows only. In Windows Me, Windows 98, or Windows 95 If B Background Printing has been disabled, the PPhoto Optimizer PRO function is not available. 1Open the PPrinter Properties dialog box. See“OOpening the Printer Properties Dialog Box from Your Application Program”on page 28. 2Click the EEffects tab.

To use Vivid Photo option: Vivid Photo intensifies background colors such as fields, trees, oceans and skies, while maintaining natural skin tones in the images. In Windows Me, Windows 98, or Windows 95 If B Background Printing has been disabled, the VVivid Photo function is not available. To u s e VVivid Photo, select the VVivid Photo check box on the EEffects tab.
Advanced Printing 33 To u s e VVivid Photo, select the VVivid Photo check box under SSpecial Effects. To reduce noise from images taken with a digital camera: The P Photo Noise Reduction function reduces noise from blue portions such as the sky, and dark portions of the images taken with your digital camera. In Windows Me, Windows 98, or Windows 95 If B Background Printing has been disabled, the PPhoto Noise Reduction function is not available. To u s e PPhoto Noise Reduction, select the PPhoto Noise Reduction check box on the Effects tab.

Advanced Printing 35 „Saving and Recalling Printer Driver Settings When you change printer driver settings for a specific print job, such as printing black and white photos, or printing documents with a special background, you can save and name these settings for future use on similar print jobs. 1Open the PPrinter Properties dialog box. See“OOpening the Printer Properties Dialog Box from Your Application Program”on page 28. 2In each tab, set all necessary items. 3Click the PProfiles tab. 4Register new printer driver settings. The AAdd to Profiles dialog box opens. 5Click OOK. 6Click OOK on the PProfiles tab. This registers your printer driver print settings. (1) Click AAdd to Profiles. (2) Enter a name of profile for the settings. (3) Select an icon. (4) Enter a description of the profile.
Advanced Printing 36 You can retrieve or delete the print settings profile at any time. zRetrieving profile: Select the desired profile from P Printing Profiles, and click Retrieve from P Profiles. zDeleting unwanted profile: Select the desired profile from P Printing Profiles, and click DDelete. For details, click Help and refer to the topic of this function. 1Open the PPrint dialog box. See“PPrinting with Macintosh”on page 18. 2Set all necessary items. 3Register new printer driver settings. The SSave Preset dialog box opens. 4Click OOK. This registers your printer driver settings. You can retrieve or change the saved driver settings at any time. zRetrieving the registered driver settings: Select the name of the driver settings to retrieve from P Presets in the P Print dialog box. zChanging the registered drivers settings: Select the name of the driver settings to delete or change from Presets in the P Print dialog box. (1) Select SSave As from the PPresets pop-up menu. (2) Enter a name for your settings.
