2.Open the Canon IJ Printer Utility dialog box.
See Opening the Canon IJ Printer Utility (Macintosh).
3.Clean the Print Head deeply.
(1) Make sure that Cleaning is selected in the pop-up menu.
(2) Click Deep Cleaning.
(3) Confirm the displayed message and click OK.
The printer starts cleaning the Print Head deeply when the Power lamp starts flashing green.
Do not perform any other operations until the printer completes the deep cleaning of the Print Head. This
takes about 1 or 2 minutes.

 Aligning the Print Head
If printed ruled lines are misaligned or print results are not even, adjust the print head position.
You need to prepare: a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper
1.Make sure that the power is turned on and a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper
are loaded in the Rear Tray.
Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the left. See Front View....

4.Adjust the print head position.
(1) Look at the printout and select the pattern number in column A that has the least
noticeable streaks.
  Note 
 If it is difficult to pick the best pattern, pick the setting that produces the least noticeable
white streaks.
(A) Less noticeable vertical white streaks
(B) Noticeable vertical white streaks
(C) Less noticeable horizontal white streaks
(D) Noticeable horizontal white streaks
(2) Repeat the procedure until you finish selecting the pattern number for column...

(1) Select Test Print in the pop-up menu.
(2) Click Print Head Alignment.
(3) Confirm the displayed message, and click OK.
The print head alignment pattern will be printed. Do not open the Front Cover while printing is in progress.Printing takes about 3 minutes to complete.
4.Adjust the print head position.
(1) Look at the printout and select the pattern number in column A that has the least
noticeable streaks.

Replacing a FINE Cartridge
When ink runs out while printing is in progress, the Alarm lamp flashes orange four times and the error
message will appear on your computer screen. Make sure which ink has run out and replace it with a
new FINE Cartridge.

 Replacing Procedure
When FINE Cartridges run out of ink, follow the procedure below to replace them.
  Important
Handling FINE Cartridges
 Do not touch the electrical contacts (A) or print head nozzles (B) on a FINE Cartridge. The
printer may not print out properly if you touch it.
 To maintain optimal printing quality, we recommend the use of specified Canon brand FINE
Cartridges.Refilling...

  Important
 If the Front Cover is left open for more than 10 minutes, the FINE Cartridge Holder moves to the
right. In this case, close and reopen the Front Cover.
2.Remove the empty FINE Cartridge.
(1) Push down the FINE Cartridge.
(2) Remove the FINE Cartridge.
  Important
 Handle FINE Cartridges carefully to avoid staining of clothing or the surrounding area.
 Discard empty FINE Cartridges according to the local laws and regulations regarding disposal
of consumables.
3.Prepare the new FINE...

(1) Insert a new FINE Cartridge all the way into the appropriate slot.
The Black FINE Cartridge should be installed into the left slot (B) and the Color FINE Cartridge should be into
the right slot (C).

 The printer cannot print unless both the Black and Color FINE Cartridges are installed. Be sureto install both the FINE Cartridges.
