System Configuration and Parts1-17 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 Touch Panel Display NOTE •You can set the initial screen (the first screen that appears when the machine is turned ON) from the Additional Functions screen. The initial screen can be the Copy, Send (Fax), Scan, or System Monitor screen. •The icons that appear in the Job/Print Status Display Area (on the bottom left of the screen) indicate a certain status of each job. The meanings of the icons are described as shown below: a b c d e f g h i j aAdjust Contrast Press [Light] or [Dark] to manually control the copy exposure. Press [A] to select or cancel the automatic exposure control. bOriginal Type Selection Press to make copies according to the type of original ([Text], [Text/Photo], or [Photo]). cSpecial Features Press to select a Special Features mode. dSystem Monitor Press to check or cancel jobs, and to check the job log. You can also check the current status of the machine. eJob/Print Status Display Area The progress of jobs and copy operations, and the status of devices and consumables are displayed here. fFinishing Press to select the Collate, Group, or Staple mode. g2-sided Press to make [1 2-Sided], [2 2-Sided], [2 1-Sided], or [Book 2-Sided] copies. hPaper Select Press to select the paper size/type and the paper source. iCopy Ratio Press to reduce or enlarge the copy size. j1:1 Press to make copies in the same size as your original.

Main Power and Control Panel Power1-19 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 Main Power and Control Panel Power The machine is provided with two power switches, a main power switch and a control panel power switch. How to Turn ON the Main Power 1Make sure that the power plug is firmly inserted into the power outlet. WARNING Do not connect or disconnect the power cord with wet hands, as this may result in electrical shock. 2Press the main power switch to “ I ” side. The main power switch is located on the right side of the machine. If you want to turn the main power OFF, make sure that you first turn the control panel power switch OFF, and then press the main power switch to the “ ” side. The main power indicator on the control panel lights when the main power switch is turned ON. IMPORTANT If the main power indicator does not light up, make sure that the power cord is firmly inserted into the power outlet.
Main Power and Control Panel Power1-20 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 3The screens on the right are displayed while the system software is loading. ❑The Start Up screen is displayed until the machine is ready to scan. ❑The screen on the right is displayed when the machine is ready to scan. IMPORTANT •If you turn OFF the main power, wait at least 10 seconds before turning the main power back ON. •Do not turn the main power OFF if the optional Color Send Kit (standard for the iR2022i/iR2018i) is activated, or the optional Super G3 FAX Board is installed, and you want to be able to send or receive I-fax/fax documents. Sending or receiving I-fax/fax documents cannot be done when the power is turned OFF.

For the further details of the operations, see “Things You Must Do Before Using This Machine” in the Sending and Facsimile Guide. IMPORTANT •If you attempt to use the machine without registering the necessary information correctly, the machine may not function properly. •Network settings have to be specified in order to send scanned documents to an e-mail address, an I-fax address, or a file server. (See “Basic Network Setting,” in the Network Guide.) NOTE Depending on the destination, the following options are required: - E-mail, I-fax, file server: the Color Send Kit (standard for the iR2022i/iR2018i) activated - Fax: the Super G3 FAX Board installed Selecting the Type of Telephone Line Set the type of telephone line that is connected to the machine. NOTE •This setting is required only when the optional Super G3 FAX Board is installed. •The default setting is ‘Tone’. 1Press (Additional Functions) ➞ [Communications Settings].

If you do not know the telephone line type, call your telephone service provider for details. The selected mode is set. 5Press [Done] repeatedly until the Basic Features screen appears.

The current date and time settings are used as standard timer settings for functions that require them. 1Press (Additional Functions) ➞ [Timer Settings] ➞ [Date & Time Settings]. •GMT: The time at the Greenwich Observatory in England is called GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). •Time Zone: The standard time zones of the world are expressed globally in terms of the difference in hours ( up to 12 hours) from GMT ( 0 hours). A time zone is a region throughout which this time difference is the same. •Daylight Saving Time: In some countries, time is advanced throughout the summer season. The period in which this is applied is called “Daylight Saving Time.”
Things You Must Do Before Using This Machine1-24 Before You Start Using This Machine 1 2Enter the current date (day, month, year) and time using - (numeric keys). ●If you are setting the Time Zone: ❑ Press [Time Zone Setting] ➞ select the time zone where the machine is located ➞ press [OK]. NOTE •The default setting is ‘GMT 0:00’. •If the desired time zone is not displayed, press [▼] or [▲] to scroll through the list. ●If you are setting Daylight Saving Time: ❑ Press [DaylightSaving Time Settings] ➞ [On] ➞ [Start Date].

NOTE •If you set Daylight Saving Time, the machine automatically sets the standard time of the machine one hour forward at the specified date and time. •The default setting is ‘On’. 3Press [OK]. The selected mode is set. 4Press [Done] repeatedly until the Basic Features screen appears.

This number is printed on the document that you fax to the receiving party. The number may also be displayed on the touch panel display of the receiving party’s machine, depending on their type of machine. NOTE This setting is required only when the optional Super G3 FAX Board is installed. 1Press (Additional Functions) ➞ [Communications Settings] ➞ [User Settings] under . 2Press [Unit Telephone #]. 3Enter the unit’s telephone number using - (numeric keys) ➞ press [OK]. The selected mode is set. 4Press [Done] repeatedly until the Basic Features screen appears.
