-/, Memory Save: Saving an Entire Memory onto an
    External Hard Drive
You can easily save all the movies and photos you recorded onto a
commercially available external hard drive connected directly to the
camcorder*. You can also use the camcorder to play back your record-
ings directly from the hard drive. Initialize the hard drive ( A154) when
you use it with this camcorder for the first time.
    * If the USB cable supplied with the external hard drive has a standard-A connector, you will need to use the optional UA-100 USB Adapter or a commercially available
    USB adapter.
    Operating modes:
Saving a Memory onto an External Hard Drive
1 Power the camcorder using the compact power adapter.
2Press T to set the camcorder to playback mode.
3 Connect the camcorder to the external hard drive using the optional UA-100 USB Adapter.
Connection #-2. Refer to Connection Diagrams (A 140).
4 Save the entire contents of the desired memory.
*Touch [Stop] > [Yes] > [OK] to interrupt the operation while it is in progress.
    • After selecting the memory, you can check the name of the folder
that will be created on the hard drive. Every memory save operation
will create a separate memory save folder with the date (in numerical
form) used as the folder name; up to 10 memory save folders can be
created for any given date and up to 300 memory save folders can
be saved on a single hard drive.

Before disconnecting the external hard drive
Before turning off or physically disconnecting the external hard drive,
be sure to safely end the connection to the camcorder to avoid dam-
age to your files. From the [External Hard Drive] screen:
    IMPORTANT
    • Make sure you power the camcorder with the compact power adapter before you save a memory to the external hard drive. If the compact
power adapter becomes disconnected, the connection between the
camcorder and the hard drive will end, which may lead to the corruption
of data in the hard drive.
    NOTES
    • Initialize the external hard drive ( A154) when you use it with this cam-
    corder for the first time.
    • You cannot select both the built-in memory and memory card to save them simultaneously.
    • You cannot use the following types of external hard drives. - USB-powered portable hard drives
    - Hard drives with a capacity over 2 TB
    - USB flash drives or media connected to card readers
    • If the external hard drive is partitioned, only the first partition will be rec- ognized.
Playing Back Previously Saved Recordings from the External Hard Drive

    • If you performed multiple memory save operations on the same day (for example, if you saved the built-in memory and then a memory
card), the folder name of memory save folders following the first one
will end in a numerical suffix.
    • The [ Movies] index screen will appear.
5 Play back the movies, stories and photos as you would do any other memory.
To switch to another memory save folder, touch [X] and then repeat step 4.
6 When you have finished playing back, be sure to safely end the
connection to the external hard drive before physically

5 Initialize the external hard drive.
1Touch this option if you want to physically erase all the data rather than just

    operation can take several hours.
2If you selected the [Complete Initialization] option, you can touch [Cancel] >
[OK] to cancel the initialization while it is in progress. All recordings will be
erased and the hard drive can be used without any problem.

need to convert them. This conversion can be completed in the cam-
corder itself or on a computer using the supplied software Video-
    Browser .
MP4 movies do not need to be converted as such in the camcorder or
computer. You can share your MP4 movies (and photos) from a com-
puter using the supplied software ImageBrowser EX (A 162).

    IMPORTANT
    • While the camcorder is connected to the computer, do not open the memory card slot cover and do not remove the memory cards.

    - Do not disconnect the USB cable.
    - Do not disconnect the compact power adapter or turn off the
    camcorder or the computer.
    NOTES

than converting the scenes in the computer so we recommend you
    convert scenes in the camcorder.
    • Movies cannot be converted if the file numbering is at maximum (A 192).
    • You can check and play back the converted SD movies from the [SD Movies] index screen on the memory card.
