If a problem occurs with the camera, first refer to this Troubleshooting Guide. If this Troubleshooting Guide does not resolve the problem, contact your dealer or nearest Canon Service Center. If the battery’s remaining capacity (p.268) is 94% or higher, the battery will not be recharged. Do not recharge any battery pack other than genuine Canon Battery Pack LP-E6. If there is a problem with the batte ry charger or battery pack or if communication with the battery pack (non-Canon battery packs) is not possible, the protective circuit will terminate the charging and the orange lamp will blink quickly at a regular interval. If there is a problem with the battery charger or batter y pack, unplug the charge r’s power plug from the power outlet. Detach and reattach the battery pack to the charger. Wait 2 to 3 minutes, then reconnect the powe r plug to the power outlet. If the problem persists, contact your dealer or nearest Canon Service Center. If the internal temperature of the batte ry pack attached to the charger is high, the charger will not charge the battery for safety reasons (lamp off). During the charging, if the battery’s temperature becomes high for any reason, the charging will stop autom atically (lamp blinks). When the battery temperature goes down, the charging will resume automatically. The battery is not properly installed in the camera (p.26). Recharge the battery (p.24). Make sure the battery compar tment cover is closed (p.26). Make sure the card slot cover is closed (p.32). Troubleshooting Guide Power-Related Problems The battery pack does not recharge. The charger’s lamp bl inks at high speed. The charger’s lamp does not blink. The camera does not operate even when the power switch is set to . COPY
Troubleshooting Guide If the power is turned off while an im age is being recorded to the card, the access lamp will still continue to light/blink for a few seconds. When the image recording is comple ted, the power will turn off automatically. Use a fully-charged battery pack (p.24). The battery performance might have degraded. See the [ 7 Battery info. ] menu option to check the battery’s performance level (p.268). If the battery performance is poor, re place the battery pack with a new one. If you keep displaying the Quick Cont rol screen (p.44) or do Live View shooting or movie shooting (p.151, 171) for a prol onged period, the number of possible shots will decrease. Auto power off is in effect. If y ou do not want auto power off to take effect, set [ 5 Auto power off ] to [Off]. The card is not properly inserted (p.32). If the card is full, replace the ca rd or delete unnecessary images to make room (p.32, 215). If you try to focus in the One-Shot AF mode while the focus confirmation light < o> in the viewfinder blin ks, a picture cannot be taken. Press the shutter button halfway again to focus, or focus manually (p.40, 80). Slide the card’s write-protect switch to the Write/Erase setting (p.32). The access lamp still blinks even when the power switch is set to . The battery becomes exhausted quickly. The camera turns off by itself. Shooting-Related Problems No images can be shot nor recorded. COPY
Troubleshooting Guide If a card error me ssage is displayed, see page 33 or 291. Set the lens focus mode switch to < AF> (p.34). To prevent camera shake, press t he shutter button gently (p.39, 40). If the lens has an Image Stabilizer, set the IS switch to < 1>. Set [ 8C.Fn II -2: High IS O speed noise reduction ] to one of the following settings: [ Standard/Low/Disable ]. If it is set to [Strong], the maximum burst during continuous shooting will greatly decrease (p.254). If you shoot something that has fine detail (field of grass, etc.), the file size will be larger and the actual maximum burst might be lower than the number mentioned on page 85. If [8 C.Fn II -3: Highlight tone priority ] is set to [Enable], ISO 100 cannot be set. If [ Disable] is set, ISO 100 can be set (p.255). This also applies to movie shooting (p.183). If [8 C.Fn II -3: Highlight tone priority ] is set to [Enable], the Auto Lighting Optimizer cannot be set. When [ Highlight tone priority] is set to [ Disable ], then the Auto Lighting Op timizer can be set (p.255). This also applies to movie shooting (p.183). The card cannot be used. The image is out of focus. The maximum burst during continuous shooting is lower. ISO 100 cannot be set. The Auto Lighting Optimizer cannot be set. COPY
Troubleshooting Guide If you shoot at night when the ba ckground is dark, the shutter speed becomes slow automatically (slow- sync shooting) so that both the subject and background are properly exposed. If you do not want a slow shutter speed to be set, set [ 8C.Fn I -7: Flash sync. speed in Av mode ] to 1 or 2 (p.253). If you shoot continuously with the bui lt-in flash at short intervals, the flash might stop operating to protect the flash unit. If flash exposure compensation has already been set with the Speedlite, flash exposure com pensation cannot be set with the camera. When the Speedlite’s flash exposure compensation is canceled (set to 0), flash exposur e compensation can be set with the camera. Set [ 8C.Fn I -7: Flash sync . speed in Av mode] to [0: Auto ] (p.253). If you use a non-Canon flash with Live View shooting, set the [ z Silent shoot. ] menu option to [ Disable] (p.159). The built-in flash’s pop-up mechanism moves slightly. This is normal. When I use the mode with flash, the shutter speed becomes slow. The built-in flash does not fire. Flash exposure compensation cannot be set. High-speed sync cannot be set in the Av mode. The external flash does not fire. The camera makes a noise when it is shaken. COPY
Troubleshooting Guide If you use flash, the shutter will make two sounds each time you shoot (p.153). On the Quick Contro l screen, check the [Custom Controls] setting (p.257). If the card’s writing speed is slow, movie shooting may stop automatically. Use an SD Speed Class 6 “ ” or faster card. To find out the card’s read/write speed, see the card manufacturer’s Web site, etc. The movie shooting will be terminated automatically if the file size reaches 4 GB or if the movie length reaches 29 min. 59 sec. Both icons indicate that the camera’s internal temperature is high. If the white < > icon appears, the still photo’s image quality might deteriorate. The red < E> icon indicates that t he Live View or movie shooting will soon be terminated automatically (p.152, 173). If there is a drastic change in t he exposure during movie shooting, the autoexposure stops the recording unti l the exposure stabilizes. If this happens, use manual exposure. Movies edited with a personal comput er using the provided software, etc., cannot be played with the camera. The shutter makes two shooting s ounds during Live View shooting. The camera button/dial’s function has changed. Movie shooting terminates by itself. During Live View and movie shooting, a white < > or red icon is displayed. The movie sometimes freezes momentarily. The movie cannot play. COPY
Troubleshooting Guide If you operate the camera’s dials or lens during movie shooting, the operation noise will also be reco rded. Use an external microphone (commercially available) (p.187). If the LCD monitor is dirty, use a soft cloth to clean it. In low or high temperatures, the LCD monitor display may seem slow or might look black. It will retu rn to normal at room temperature. In Basic Zone modes and in movie shooting mode, certain tabs and menu options are not displayed. Set the shooting mode to a Creative Zone mode (p.46). If the image has been protected, it cannot be erased (p.213). The [ 4 Highlight alert ] menu option is set to [ Enable] (p.192). The [ 4 AF point disp. ] menu option is set to [ Enable] (p.193). When the movie is played, camera operation noise can be heard. Display & Operation Problems The LCD monitor does not display a clear image. The menu screen shows few tabs and options. The image cannot be erased. Part of the image blinks in black. A red box is displayed on the image. COPY
Troubleshooting Guide Set the color space to sRGB. If Adobe RGB is set, the first character will be an underscore (p.110). If you use a card wh ich already has images recorded, the file numbering might start from the la st image in the card (p.106). The correct date and time has not been set (p.30). Make sure the AV cable or HDMI ca ble’s plug is inserted all the way in (p.209, 212). Set the video OUT system (NTSC/PAL) to the same video system as the TV set (p.212). Use the AV cable that came with the camera (p.212). Depending on the card reader and com puter OS used, SDXC cards might not be correctly detected. In such a case, connect your camera and computer with the provided in terface cable, and transfer the images to your computer usi ng EOS Utility (provided software). The file name’s first characte r is an underscore (“_MG_”). The file numbering does not start from 0001. The shooting date and time displayed is incorrect. No image appears on the TV screen. The card reader does not detect the card. COPY
Troubleshooting Guide [### ] will be displayed when the num ber of images/movies exceeds the number of digits that can be displayed. [Eye-Fi settings ] will appear only when an Eye-Fi card is inserted into the camera. If the Eye-Fi card has a write-protect tab set to the LOCK position, you will not be able to che ck the card’s connection status or disable Eye-Fi card transmission. What is displayed on the screen di ffers depending on the printer. This instruction manual list s all the printing effects available (p.240). [###] is displayed. The [Eye-Fi settings] menu item does not appear. Printing-Related Problems There are fewer printing effects than listed in the instruction manual. COPY
