Focusing with AF (AF Method)
You can use up to 63 AF points for wide-area focusing (automatic 
selection). This wide area can also be divided into 9 zones for focusing 
(zone selection).
1Display the Live View image.
 Press the < 0> button.
X The Live View image will appear on 
the LCD monitor.
2Select the AF point. N
 Pressing < 9> or < 0> will toggle 
between automatic selection and 
zone selection. In the < A> mode,

3Focus on the subject.
 Aim the AF point over the subject and 
press the shutter button halfway.
X When focus is achieved, the AF point 
will turn green and the beeper will 
sound.
X If focus is not achieved, the area 
frame will turn orange.
4Take the picture.
  Check the focus and exposure, then 
press the shutter button completely to 
take the picture (p.298).

The camera focuses with a single AF point. This is effective when you 
want to focus on a particular subject.
1Display the Live View image.
 Press the < 0> button.
X The Live View image will appear on 
the LCD monitor.
X The AF point < > will appear.
  If [Movie servo AF ] is set to 
[ Enable ], the AF point will be 
displayed larger.
2Move the AF point.
  Use < 9> to move the AF point to 
where you want to focus. (It cannot 
be moved to the edge of the screen.)

AF Operation
 Even when focus is achieved, pre ssing the shutter button halfway 
will focus again.
  The image brightness may change during and after the AF 
operation.
  Depending on the subject and shooting conditions, it may take 
longer to focus or the conti nuous shooting speed may decrease.
  If the light source changes while the  Live View image is displayed, 
the screen may flicker and focusing may be difficult. If this happens,

Shooting Conditions that Make Focusing Difficult
 Subject with low-contrast such as  the blue sky, solid-color flat 
surfaces or when highlight or shadow details are clipped.
  Subjects in low light.
  Stripes and other patterns where there is contrast only in the 
horizontal direction.
  Subjects with repetitive patterns (Example: Skyscraper windows, 
computer keyboards, etc.).
  Fine lines and subject outlines.
  Under a light source whose brightness, color, or pattern...

In the [FlexiZone - Multi ] and 
[ FlexiZone - Single ] modes, either press 
the < u> button or tap on [ d] displayed 
on the bottom right of the screen. You 
can magnify the image by approx. 5x or 
10x and check the focus.
Magnified view is not possible with 
[u+Tracking].
  To move the AF point or select a zone, operate < 9> or tap on the 
spot you want to magnify.
  Either press the < u> button or tap on [ d] to magnify the image.

 If focusing is difficult in the magnified view, return to the normal view and 
perform AF.
  If you perform AF in the normal view and then the view is magnified, 
accurate focus may not be achieved.
  AF speed differs between normal view and magnified view.
  When in magnified view, Movie Servo AF (p.380) will not work.
  During magnified view, achieving fo cus becomes more difficult due to 
camera shake. Using a tripod is recommended.

Just by tapping on the LCD monitor screen, you can focus and take the picture automatically.
1Display the Live View image.
 Press the < 0> button.
X The Live View image will appear on 
the LCD monitor.
2Enable the touch shutter.
  Tap [ y] on the screen’s bottom left.

toggle between [ y] and [ x].

  Even if [ AF operation ] is set to [Server AF ], tapping on the screen will 
focus on the image with [ One-Shot AF].

  In the < A> mode, if [ FlexiZone - Multi ] or [yTouch shutter:
