Sending Images Automatically (Image Sync) Images on the memory card that have not been transferred already can be \ sent to a computer or Web services via CANON iMAGE GATEWAY. Note that images cannot be sent only to Web services. Initial Preparations Install and configure the software on the destination computer. 1 Install the software. zzInstall the software on a computer connected to the Internet (= 137). 2 Register the camera. zzWindows: In the taskbar, right-click [], and then click [Add new camera]. zzMacintosh: In the menu bar, click [], and then click [Register Camera]. zzChoose a source camera from one of the cameras listed, which are linked to CANON iMAGE GATEWAY (= 134). zzOnce the camera is registered and ready to receive images, the icon changes to [ ].

Note that images stored on the computer are sent to CANON iMAGE GATEWAY, so the computer must be connected to the Internet.Sending Images Images sent from the camera are automatically saved to the computer. If the computer that you intend to send images to is turned off, the images will be stored temporarily on the CANON iMAGE GATEWAY server. Stored images are regularly erased, so make sure to turn on the computer and save the images. zzFollow the steps in “Connecting to WPS- Compatible Access Points” (= 141) to choose []. zzOnce the connection is established, the images are sent. zzWhen the images have been sent successfully to the CANON iMAGE GATEWAY server, [ ] is displayed on the screen. zzImages are automatically saved to the computer when you turn it on. zzImages are automatically sent to Web services from the CANON iMAGE GATEWAY server, even if the computer is off. • When sending images, you should use a fully charged battery pack or an AC adapter kit (sold separately, = 168).

Customize commonly used functions as desired, for greater convenience ( = 25). Silencing Camera Operations Silence camera sounds and movies as follows. zzChoose [Mute], and then choose [On]. • Operation can also be silenced by holding down the < p> button as you turn the camera on. • Sound is not played during movies ( = 104) if you mute camera sounds. To restore sound during movies, press the < o> button or drag up across the screen. Adjust volume as needed by pressing the < o> buttons or by dragging up or down. Adjusting the Volume Adjust the volume of individual camera sounds as follows. zzChoose [Volume], and then press the button. zzChoose an item, and then press the buttons to adjust the volume. Customizing Sounds Customize camera operating sounds as follows. zzChoose [Sound Options], and then press the button. zzChoose an item, and then press the buttons to choose an option. • The shutter sound in digest movies recorded in [] mode (= 32) cannot be changed.

( = 24) or MENU (= 25) items. If you prefer, you can deactivate this information. zzChoose [Hints & Tips], and then choose [Off]. Date and Time Adjust the date and time as follows. zzChoose [Date/Time], and then press the button. zzPress the buttons to choose an option, and then adjust the setting, either by pressing the < o> buttons or turning the dial. World Clock To ensure that your shots will have the correct local date and time when \ you travel abroad, simply register the destination in advance and switch to \ that time zone. This convenient feature eliminates the need to change the Date/ Time setting manually. Before using the world clock, be sure to set the date and time and your \ home time zone, as described in “Setting the Date and Time” (= 15). 1 Specify your destination. zzChoose [Time Zone], and then press the button. zzPress the buttons or turn the dial to choose [ World], and then press the button. zzPress the buttons or turn the dial to choose the destination. zzTo set daylight saving time (1 hour ahead), press the buttons to choose [ ]. zzPress the button. 2 Switch to the destination time zone. zzPress the buttons or turn the dial to choose [ World], and then press the button. zz[] is now shown on the shooting screen (= 191). • Adjusting the date or time while in [] mode (= 16) will automatically update your [ Home] time and date.

To have the lens retracted immediately after you press the < 1> button, set the retraction timing to [0 sec.]. zzChoose [Lens Retract], and then choose [0 sec.]. Using Eco Mode This function allows you to conserve battery power in Shooting mode. Whe\ n the camera is not in use, the screen quickly darkens to reduce battery consumption. 1 Configure the setting. zzChoose [Eco Mode], and then choose [On]. zz[] is now shown on the shooting screen (= 191). zzThe screen darkens when the camera is not used for approximately two seconds; approximately ten seconds after darkening, the screen turns off. The camera turns off after approximately three minutes of inactivity. 2 Shoot. zzTo activate the screen and prepare for shooting when the screen is off but the lens is still out, press the shutter button halfway. Power-Saving Adjustment Adjust the timing of automatic camera and screen deactivation (Auto Pow\ er Down and Display Off, respectively) as needed ( = 22). zzChoose [Power Saving], and then press the button. zzAfter choosing an item, press the buttons to adjust it as needed. • To conserve battery power, you should normally choose [On] for [Auto Power Down] and [1 min.] or less for [Display Off]. • The [Display Off] setting is applied even if you set [Auto Power Down] to [Off]. • These power-saving functions are not available when you have set Eco mod\ e (= 159) to [On].

(This will override the [LCD Brightness] setting on the [ 3] tab.) To restore the original brightness, press and hold the < p> button again for at least one second or restart the camera. Start-up Screen Customize the start-up screen shown after you turn the camera on as follows. zzChoose [Start-up Image], and then press the button. zzPress the buttons or turn the dial to choose an option. Formatting Memor y Cards Before using a new memory card or a card formatted in another device, yo\ u should format the card with this camera. Formatting erases all data on a memory card. Before formatting, copy ima\ ges on the memory card to a computer, or take other steps to back them up. 1 Access the [Format] screen. zzChoose [Format], and then press the button. 2 Choose [OK]. zzPress the buttons to choose [Cancel], choose [OK] (either press the buttons or turn the dial), and then press the button. 3 Format the memory card. zzTo begin the formatting process, press the buttons or turn the dial to choose [OK], and then press the button. zzWhen formatting is finished, [Memory card formatting complete] is displayed. Press the button. • Formatting or erasing data on a memory card only changes file management information on the card and does not erase the data completely. When transferring or disposing of memory cards, take steps to protect personal information if necessary, as by physically destroying cards.
