Playback with Background Music 111 Playback with Background Music Play back movies (or a photo slideshow) with background music. You can use one of the supplied music tracks or connect an external audio player to use your favorite songs as background music. Using One of the Supplied Music Tracks as Background Music The supplied Camcorder Supplemental Disc contains 3 music tracks you can use as background music. The music files come pre-installed in the built-in memory. You can mix the original audio and the background music and adjust the background music mix balance to your preference. POINTS TO CHECK • To play back scenes or a slideshow of photos recorded on the memory card, you will need to transfer the music tracks to the memory card in advance. See the NOTES section ( 0113). 1 Open the gallery or date index screen. [b ] [ Gallery] or [1 Date] 2 Open the [Select Music] screen. POINTS TO CHECK • You will need a commercially available audio cable with at least one mini-stereo plug (to connect to the MIC terminal on the camcorder); the other end will depend on external player used). • Make sure that the jacket covering above the mini-stereo plug is smaller than ∅ 9.5 mm. 1 Open the gallery or date index screen. [b ] [ Gallery] or [ 1 Date] 2 Open the [External Audio Input] screen. [MENU] y [External Audio Input] 3Touch [A On ]. 4 Connect the external player to the camcorder’s MIC terminal. 5 Adjust the audio input as necessary. • Start the music playback on the external player and adjust its volume according to the onscreen indications. When the audio input is in the correct range, stop the music playback and touch [ a] on the camcorder. • Touch [External Player Link] to link the video playback to the start/end of the music from the external player. Playback with the video linked to the external audio 6 Start the music playback on the external player. • Playback will start from the first scene in the story or index screen. • When the external audio input stops, video playback will pause. When the external audio input is restored, video playback will resume automatically. • Even when the video playback stops, audio playback on the external player will not stop automatically. Playback with the video not linked to the external audio 6 Touch a story or scene to start the video playback. 7 Start the music playback on the external player. COPY
Playback with Background Music 113 IMPORTANT • If you use copyrighted songs and music tracks in your video creations, remember that music under copyright may not be used without permission from the copyright holder, except for cases permitted under applicable laws, such as for personal use. Make sure to follow applicable laws when using music files. NOTES • Initializing a memory card will permanently erase any music files you may have transferred to the card. (The music files that come pre-installed in the built-in memory will be restored after it is initialized.) To transfer music files from the supplied Camcorder Supplemental Disc to the memory card: - Windows users: Use the supplied PIXELA’s software. For details, refer to the Software Guide (PDF file) of the supplied PIXELA’s software. - Mac OS users: Use Finder to transfer music files from the [MUSIC] folder on the supplied Camcorder Supplemental Disc to the memory card. Refer to About the music files (0 178) for the folder structure of the memory card. • Transfer music files to the memory card that contains the recordings you want to play back with background music. • In some cases, the video playback may not be correctly linked to the external player. For example, if the volume of external player is too low or if the audio signal contains a lot of noise, etc. COPY

Then, drag your finger up/down to select the desired category and touch the orange frame on the right (number of scenes). And last, drag your finger up/down to move the orange bar within the category to select the position of the scene. 5 Copy or move the scene. [Set]* [Yes]*** This step is not necessary when copying/moving a scene into a story scene category that contains no other scenes. ** When copying a scene, you can touch [Stop] to interrupt the operation while it is in progress. 6 Touch [OK] and then touch [ f]. NOTES • You cannot copy or move scenes to the two preexisting stories, [Unsorted] and [Video Snapshot]. Operating modes: COPY

NOTES • When you import files with the supplied software VideoBrowser using the option to join and import music and video files from the gallery, some special characters in the story’s title (/, \, , :, *, ", |, ?) will be changed to an underscore (_) in the file name. Operating modes: ASwitch between letters and numbers/special characters. B Change the position of the cursor. C Delete the character to the cursor’s left (backspace). D Caps Lock. When the numerical keyboard is displayed, [#%?] switches between set 1 and set 2 of special characters. COPY
Terminals on the Camcorder 117 External Connections Terminals on the Camcorder * When connecting a cable to the camcorder, make sure to align the triangle marks on the cable’s connector and on the camcorder’s terminal. 1 COMPONENT OUT Terminal* Access: Open the LCD panel and terminal cover. The component video terminal is for video only. When you use connection B, do not forget the audio connections using the AV OUT/ X terminal. 2 AV O U T / X Te r m i n a l Access: Open the LCD panel and terminal cover. Sound from the built-in speaker will be muted while the STV-250N Stereo Video Cable is connected to the camcorder. Adjust the volume on the connected TV. 3 HDMI OUT Terminal* Access: Open the side terminal cover. The HDMI OUT terminal offers a high-quality digital connection that combines audio and video in a single convenient cable. 4 USB Terminal Access: Open the side terminal cover. 7 External Connections COPY

Connection A HDMI Type: Digital Quality: High definition Output only Connect to a high-definition TV (HDTV) with an HDMI input terminal. If your HDTV supports HDMI-CEC or 1080p input, you can activate these functions with the 6 [Control for HDMI] and [HDMI 1080p Output] settings, respectively. You can check the standard of the current output signal with the 6 [HDMI Status] setting. Connection BComponent Video Type: Analog Quality: High Definition Output only Connect to a high-definition TV (HDTV) with component video input terminals. Change the following settings on the camcorder: - 6 [AV/Headphones] to [ H AV] HTC-100/S HDMI Cable (supplied) (HDMI mini connector) (standard HDMI connector) About the HDMITM connectionThe HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) connection ( A) is a convenient all-digital connection using a single cable for both video and audio. When you connect the camcorder to an HDTV equipped with an HDMI terminal, you can enjoy video and audio playback at the highest quality. - The HDMI OUT terminal on the camcorder is for output only. Do not connect it to an HDMI output terminal on an external device, as this may damage the camcorder. - While the camcorder is connected to an HDTV using connection A, there will be no video output from other terminals. - Correct operation cannot be guaranteed when connecting the camcorder to DVI monitors. - Depending on the HDTV, correct playback of personal video content may not be possible using connection A. Playback on a TV Screen 120 Playback on a TV Screen Connect the camcorder to a TV to view and check your recordings. Playback on an HDTV using one of the high-definition connections will ensure the best playback quality. 1 Turn off the camcorder and the TV. 2 Connect the camcorder to the TV. • Refer to Connection Diagrams (0 118) and select the most appropriate connection for your TV. 3 Turn on the connected TV. • On the TV, select as the video input the same terminal to which you connected the camcorder. Refer to the instruction manual of the connected TV. 4 Turn on the camcorder and set it to or mode. • Play back the movies or photos. NOTES • To correctly play back movies recorded with x.v.Color ( 0144) on an HDTV compatible with this standard, additional settings may be required on the connected HDTV. Refer to the TV’s instruction manual. • We recommend powering the camcorder using the compact power adapter. • Connection C: When you play back your 16:9 movies on standard TV sets with a 4:3 aspect ratio, the TV set will switch automatically to widescreen mode if it is compatible with the Video ID-1 system. Otherwise, change the aspect ratio of the TV manually. Operating modes: COPY
