Selecting the Size and Quality of Still
    Images
Still images are recorded on the memory card or the disc using the JPEG (Joint
    Photographic Experts Group) compression.
You can select the size and quality of still images. As a general rule select a larger image
size for higher quality stills (for example for printing and enlarging); or a smaller image
size if you want to record more images on the memory card or want smaller file sizes (for
example for e-mail attachments or for web pages).
The actual number of still images that can be recorded on a memory card or disc will vary
depending on the subject and the recording conditions. The estimated figures are as
    follows:
Number of still images that can be recorded on a memory card:
Number of still images that can be recorded on a disc:
    * This number is the number of images that can be recorded on the disc; however, the maximum number of remaining images displayed on the screen will be 9999.

Depending on the number of images on the memory card or disc (Windows:
more than 1800 images; Macintosh: more than 1000 images), you may not be
able to download images to a computer. Try using a card reader to download
the still images recorded on the memory card.
Connection to a PictBridge compliant printer will not work when the memory
card contains more than 1800 images. For best performance, we recommend
to keep the number of images on the memory card under 100.

    the video recording.
The quality of the still image is slightly lower than a still image of the same size
    recorded in the mode.
The still image cannot be recorded on the memory card while recording in
widescreen or while a digital effect is activated.
The still image cannot be recorded simultaneously on the disc. Make sure that

    Available Settings List (MENU)
Available menu items vary depending on the operation mode. Default settings are in
boldface text. For details on each function, see the reference page. Functions without a
reference page are explained below the tables.
Camera Setup (Digital Zoom, Image Stabilizer, etc.)CAMERA SETUP
1Available only when recording still images on the memory card .
A.SL SHUTTER: The camcorder automatically uses slow shutter speeds to obtain
brighter recordings in places with insufficient lighting.
The camcorder uses shutter speeds down to 1/30 (1/15 when recording still images).
When recording still images, set the flash mode to (flash off).
If a trailing afterimage appears, set the slow shutter to [OFF].
If “ ” (camcorder shake warning) appears, we recommend stabilizing the camcorder,
for example, by mounting it on a tripod.
D.ZOOM : Determines the operation of the digital zoom.
When the digital zoom is activated, the camcorder will switch automatically to the
digital zoom when you zoom in beyond the optical zoom range.
With the digital zoom the image is digitally processed, so image resolution will
deteriorate the more you zoom in.
The digital zoom indicator will appear in light blue from 10x up to 40x and dark blue
    from 40x to 200x.
