    Listening to Music Files
    Maintaining your music library
To help you create and maintain your music library, the Wave/PC™ application provides the
capability to add and delete files, and edit the music finder database.
Adding new music to your music finder database
There are three ways to add new music to the music finder database:
•Searching your hard drive – During the Wave/PC software installation process, the setup
program searched your hard disk for any existing music files and added them to the Wave/
PC database. You can repeat this operation whenever you want. Open the Music Files
setup window and click the Scan hard drive for music button.
•By default – The Wave/PC application is configured by default to automatically incorporate
any new music files which are copied to your hard drive directly into your music finder data-
base. Just download a music file from the Internet, and it will automatically appear in the
    music finder.
•Standard drag and drop – You can also drag and drop a music file from Windows directly
onto the Wave/PC application window. This adds the music file to the Wave/PC database
    and begins playing the file.
Deleting music files from your music finder database
You can delete any item from the music finder by selecting it and clicking the Delete Item
button. When you do this, a dialog box pops up (Figure 22) and gives you two options for
deleting this file. You can just delete the item only from the music finder, or you can delete it
from the music finder and your hard drive as well. If you only delete an item from the music
finder, you can put it back at a later time using the scan function in the setup menu. If you
also delete the item from your hard drive, the actual music file is removed from your hard
    drive.
    Figure 22
    Delete item confirmation
    Editing file information
You can change information in any music finder view. In general, any changes you make will
appear in all other music finder views below the one you changed. For example, if you select
the Tracks view and change a name such as “Bourbon Street Parade” to “Bourbon Street”,
you will notice this change also in any other view where this name appears.
    To edit information:
    1. Right-click the item to edit.
    2. Select Edit Entry from the menu.
    3. Type the new information and press Enter.
Changes made to the music finder database will be made to the individual music files them-
selves, unless you change the related setup option. See “Setting the Music Files player setup
    options” on page 33.

    Creating your own music playlists
Open the Playlist Editor by clicking the Edit Playlists button in the Music Files player mode.
The playlist editor window is divided into two views (Figure 23). The lower view displays the
music files finder and the upper view displays your playlists in a tree view.
    Figure 23
    Playlist editor window
The tree view lists playlists by name. A closed playlist containing music files displays a plus
sign [+] to the left of the name. If the playlist is empty, the plus sign is not displayed. Clicking
the plus sign opens the playlist to display its contents. When opened, a minus sign is dis-
played to the left of the playlist name. Clicking the minus sign collapses or closes the playlist.
Playlists can be created using items from any music finder view. This means that you can cre-
ate playlists of music by type, artist, composer, album or track.
    To create a playlist:
    1. Click the New Playlist button and enter the name of your new playlist. Press the Enter
    key on your keyboard.
    2. Select a music finder view and select items to add to the playlist.
    3. Click the Add to Playlist button, or drag and drop the item onto the playlist name.
Note: You can drag and drop items in a playlist to change the order.
To delete an item from a playlist:
    1. Select the item in the playlist.
    2. Click the Delete Item button directly below the Undo button.
    To close the Playlist Editor:
Click the close button ( ) to close the window and return to the Music Files player window.

    Listening to Music Files
Normally, the Wave/PC™ application monitors your hard drive for new music files and adds
them to the Wave/PC database. If you do not want this to happen automatically, remove the
check mark beside “Automatically check for new music files.” If this box is not checked, you
will need to click the Scan hard drive for music button to search for new music files.
When new music files are found they are automatically added to the database (default set-
ting). To have the Wave/PC application ask if you want them added first, place a check beside
“Ask me before adding new music files to the database.” The next time new music files are
found, the dialog box in Figure 26 opens. Select the music files you want to add to the data-
base and click OK. Multiple files can be selected using Control-click and Shift-click opera-
tions. Click Cancel to close the window without adding any new files.
    Figure 26
    New files found dialog box
The information shown in the music finder is stored in two places: (1) In the music finder data-
base, and (2) in ID3 tags within individual music files. Editing information in the music finder
window only changes the music finder database. The ID3 tags are kept up to date automati-
cally if the “Automatically update music files upon editing” option is selected. If not selected,
the setup window provides an Update music files… button to manually perform the update.
The “Store my music in:” edit box displays the default directory path to the storage location of
recorded CD tracks. You can change the location by modifying the path string or by clicking
the Browse button and navigating your way to a new location.

To scan your hard drive for supported music files and add them to the music finder database:
    1. Click the Scan hard drive for music… button. The dialog box shown in Figure 27 opens.
    2. Select the types of music files to include in your search. You can select MP3 or WAV. By
    default, only MP3 is selected.
    3. Specify the minimum file length. When importing files, you may want to exclude short
files containing operating system or game sounds. By default, the search process ignores
files less than 20 seconds long.
    4. Specify the folders or directories to search. Use the Add Folder, Edit Folder, and Delete
Folder buttons to edit the list. Use the check boxes to the left of the directory names to
    temporarily select/unselect folders.
    5. Click the Search button. A progress dialog box pops up to keep you informed of the
search status. When finished, the progress box displays the number of files found and
the number added to the music finder database. You may notice that not all files found
were added to the music finder database. This can happen if the file already exists in the
database or if the file length is less than the specified minimum.

    1. Using your web browser, find the station you want to add. Begin listening to the station
    using RealPlayer
®. Click Next when the station is playing.

    Selecting the AM/FM radio
Selecting AM/FM radio (Figure 33) allows you to listen to your local AM/FM broadcast sta-
tions using the tuner in the Wave/PC™ unit. To find a radio station, click the AM or FM button
and a list of your local radio stations is displayed in the station finder. These stations were
downloaded during installation according to the ZIP code you entered. In the far left-hand
column of the station finder window, an indicator is displayed next to the strong stations.
Note: FM radio reception is improved by installing the supplied FM dipole antenna. See
“Connecting the external FM antenna” on page 12. If you are not using the FM dipole, the
power cord serves as an antenna. Straighten the cord as much as possible for best
