    Connecting to a laptop or desktop computer 
    Notes:
    • A Mac adaptor (an optional accessory) may be necessary if you are connecting to an older Macintosh computers.
    • The USB cable is required if you intend  using the mouse functions on the remote 
    control.
    • Many laptops do not turn on their external video ports when connected to a projector.  Usually a key combo like FN + F3 or CRT/LCD key turns the external display on/off. 
    Locate a function key labeled CRT/LCD or a function key with a monitor symbol on the 
    laptop. Press FN and the labeled function key simultaneously. Refer to your laptop’s 
    documentation to learn your laptop’s key combination.
    Connecting equipment to the component video input
    The projector is capable of displaying various High Definition TV display modes. Some of 
    these sources are:  
    Most of these sources will provide an anal og component video output, a standard VGA 
    output, or a YP
    bPr (default) format. 
    The projector is capable of accepting HDTV data through a Component Video connector. 
    Use a Component Video cable that came with your projector to display these images.

    Video devices or VCR
    If the selected video image is not displayed after the projector is turned on and the correct 
    video source has been selected, check that the video source is turned on and operating 
    correctly. Also check that the signal cables have been connected correctly.
    Connecting to display devices
    If you want to monitor your presentation close-up on a monitor as well as on the screen, you 
    can connect the RGB signal output port on the projector to an external monitor with a VGA 
    cable or D-Sub - DVI cable. • 576i • 576p

    Start up
    1. Switch all of the connected equipment on.
    2. Plug the power cord into the projector and into a wall socket. Turn on the power point (if switched).
    3. Turn the main power switch on. The  Power indicator 
    lights orange. 
    4. Remove the lens cap. If it is left on, it could become  deformed due to heat.
    5. Press and hold (for 2 seconds) the  Power button on 
    the remote control or projector to start the unit. 
    The  Power indicator lig ht  flashes green when the 
    unit is on.
    6. The start up procedure takes about 30 seconds  after pressing  Power. In the later stage of start up, a 
    default BenQ logo is projected.
    7. Next, a projector boot screen displays as below. If  the supplied BenQ wireless card is installed in the 
    projector and its indicator lights green, set up your 
    laptop or desktop later by using the information 
    shown on the page like Network ID (SSID), Network Type, and IP Address.

    20 8. If you are going to display a image from other signal input, press 
    Source on the 
    projector or remote control. The projector screen displays the current input source 
    being scanned at the bottom right corner of  the screen. If no input source signal is 
    detected, the search will continue until an input source signal is detected.
    9. For more information on source selection, refer to “Switching input signals” section  below.
    If the frequency/ resolution of  the input signal exceeds the pr ojector’s operating range, you 
    will see the message “Out of Range” displayed on a blank screen.
    Preparing for a wireless presentation
    1. Is Wireless Navigator installed on your laptop?
    Yes, go to the next step below.
    No, load on your laptop using the Wireless Navigator Installation CD provided. Refer 
    to Chapter 2: Software Installation and Setup  in the Wireless Navigator user’s manual.
    2. Start the projector with the wireless card inserted (LED up) so you see the projector  boot screen.
    3. Make sure your laptop is enabled with wireless connection.
    4. Configure the network settings on your  laptop. Refer to the Part One: Wireless 
    Configuration of Chapter 3: Making Presen tation in the Wireless Navigator user’s 
    manual.
    5. If the presentation is made by multiple users, refer to Chapter 4: Collaborative  Presentation in the Wireless  Navigator user’s manual.
    6. You can also find other relevant information about operating the software in the  provided Wireless Navigator user’ manual.
    Switching input signals
    To sequentially select input sources, press  Source on 
    the projector control panel or the remote control. It 
    may take you a few seconds when the projector is 
    searching for input signals. The selected source will 
    be displayed at the bottom right of the screen for 3 
    seconds.

    Adjusting the image
    Adjusting the height
    Place your projector on a flat level surface and ensure that the projector is square to the 
    screen.
    The projector is equipped with 2 quick-release adjuster feet. These adjusters change the 
    image height and projection an gle. To adjust the projector,
    1. Lift the projector up and press the  adjuster button to release the 
    adjuster. The adjuster will drop 
    into position and be locked.
    Do not look into the lens while the lamp 
    is on. The strong light from the lamp 
    may cause damage to your eyes or sight.
    2. Screw the rear adjuster feet to fine-tune the projection angle.
    To retract the foot, press the adjuster button 
    again.
    If the screen and the projector are not 
    perpendicular to each other, the projected 
    image becomes vertically trapezoidal. To 
    correct this situation, adjust the value of 
    Keystone in the Display menu, on the 
    projector control panel or on the remote 
    control.
    Auto-adjusting the image
    In some cases, you may need to optimize the picture 
    quality. To do this, press  Auto on the control panel of 
    the projector or on the remote control. Within 3 
    seconds, the built-in Inte lligent Auto Adjustment 
    function will re-adjust the values of Frequency and 
    Clock to provide the best picture quality. 
    The screen will be blank while Auto is functioning.

    Correcting keystone
    Keystoning refers to the situation where the projected image is noticeably wider at either the 
    top or bottom. It occurs when the projector is not perpendicular to the screen. 
    To correct this, besides adjusting the height of 
    the projector, you will need to manually correct 
    it following ONE of these steps. 
    A. Press  3 Left / Right  4  (hot key) on the 
    control panel of the projector to display the 
    status bar labelled Keystone. Press  Right 4 to 
    correct keystoning at the top of the image. Press 
    3  Left  to correct keystoning at the bottom of 
    the image.
    B. Press  3 Ke ystone / Ke ystone  4   on the 
    remote control to display the status bar labelled 
    Ke ystone. Press  Ke ystone 4  to correct 
    keystoning at the top of the image. Press  3 
    Ke ystone  to correct keystoning at the bottom of the image. 
    C. Press  Menu key on the projector or the remote control. Go to 
     Display  --> Ke ystone  
    and adjust the values by pressing  3 Left / Right  4  on the projector or  3 Ke ystone / 
    Ke ystone  4  on the remote control.
    Fine-tuning the image size and clarity
    Refer to the screen size tables on page  21.

    that you need using the zoom ring.  2. Then sharpen the image by rotating 
    the focus ring.

    Zoom In + / Zoom Out -
    By pressing Zoom +, the center of the picture will be magnified. 
    When the  + button is pressed again, the picture is further 
    magnified. Use the Mouse Pad to navigate the image. By pressing 
    Zoom - , the size of the image is reduced. When the  - button is 
    pressed again, the picture is further reduced until it is restored to 
    the original size. You can also restore the actual image size by 
    pressing  Return.
    Optimizing the image
    Use the remote control or on-screen menus to optimize the image. For the operation of on-
    screen menus, please refer to page  34.
    1. Select a preset mode on the projector, remote control, 
    or in    Control > Preset Mode . There are 4 modes 
    available for each input. PC/ DVI Signal input
    • Presentation Mode : Is designed for presentations. 
    The brightness is emphasized in this mode.
    • Vivid Mode : Is perfect for playing games. The color saturation and brightness are 
    well-balanced.
    • Video Mode : Is suitable for cinematic enjoyment displaying images in their natural 
    color.
    • Economic Mode : Use this mode to reduce the system noise and reduce the power 
    consumption by 20%. The lamp life is al so extended with lower light output.
    YPbPr/ YCbCr/ S-Video/ Video Signal Input
    • Gaming Mode : Is suitable for playing video  games in a bright living room.
    • Video Mode : With a higher color temperature, it is suitable for enjoying TV movies. 
    • Cinema Mode : With a lower color temperature, it is suitable for enjoying cinematic 
    movies.
    • Economic Mode : Use this mode to reduce the system noise and reduce the power 
    consumption by 20%. The lamp life is al so extended with lower light output.
    2. You can adjust Brightness and Contrast  settings for a DVI-A or DVI-D image 
    using the   Display  menu or with the remote control. Alternatively, you can 
    adjust the Brightness, Contrast, Color, and Tint settings whilst viewing a 
    Component Video, Composite Video, or S-Video input. 
    Some picture adjustments are available only when certain input ports are in use. 
    Unavailable adjustments are not shown on the screen. Refer to page  34 for 
    functions available for each signal type.

    Laser pointer operation
    The Laser Pointer is a presentation aid for professionals. It 
    emits red colored light when you press it and the LED 
    indicator lights up green. Do not look into the laser light 
    window or shine the laser light beam on yourself or others. 
    Refer to the warning messages  on the back of the remote 
    control and the attached “User Information” prior to using it.
    Using the remote mouse functions
    Connect the USB port of the projector and the 
    USB port of your PC or laptop with the supplied 
    USB cable prior to using these functions. 
    The  Mouse Pad  on the remote control can perform 
    the PC or laptop mouse functions. You can move 
    the Mouse Pad in all directions and control the 
    movement of the cursor.
    Q When the displayed image is magnified 
    ( +Zoom- ), use the  Mouse Pad  to move around 
    the display areas.
    Q The  L-Click  and R-Click  act as the Left (L) and Right  (R) buttons of a computer mouse.
    Q To drag and drop objects on the screen,
    1. Place the cursor on the object you want to move.
    2. Press  Drag.
    3. Move the  Mouse Pad and drag the object to the de stination. Drop the object by 
    pressing  L-Click.
    4. If you want to move a group of objects,  i. place the cursor on a proper position. Press  Drag. 
    ii. Move the  Mouse Pad over the objects to be selected. Press  L-Click to release the 
    drag function.
    iii. Place the cursor on the sele cted group. Press Drag again.
    iv. Move the  Mouse Pad and drag the objects to the destination. Drop the object 
    by pressing  L-Click.

    PIP (Picture In Picture) operation
    Your projector is capable of displaying images 
    simultaneously from two input sources, which can be 
    used to enhance your presentation in an interesting 
    way.
    These functions are available only when the input 
    source is PC and the PIP source is Video or S-Video.
    Operation on the remote control
    1. Ensure both the PC, and Video or S-Video signals are correctly connected to the projector.
    2. Display the PC image on the screen.
    3. Press PIP-Source  on the remote control to display the PIP frame. Press  PIP-Source a 
    second time and wait for the PIP image for a while until it is displayed.
    4. To change the position of the PIP image, press  PIP-Pos repeatedly until a suitable position 
    is selected.
    5. To resize the PIP image, press  PIP-Size repeatedly. There are three options available, small, 
    medium, and large sizes.
    More functions are available in the on-screen menus.
    Operation in the on-screen menus
    1. Press  Menu on the projector or remote control.
    2. Use  3 Left / Right  4 on the projector or   3 Ke ystone / Ke ystone  4  on the remote control 
    to select    PIP menu.

    Freezing the image
    The image is frozen when  Freeze is pressed. An icon   will 
    appear in the lower right corner of the screen. To release the 
    function, press  Freeze again,  Return or Source  (this will 
    change the input source and release the pause function).
    Even if an image is frozen on the screen, the pictures are 
    running on the video or other device. If the connected devices 
    have active audio output, you will still hear the audio even 
    though the image is frozen.
    Refer to page  39 for more information.
    Adjusting the volume
    Adjust the loudness by pressing  Volume + / -. Or press Mute to 
    mute the sound.
    To reach a preferred sound quality, you can adjust the treble and 
    bass levels in the    Source menu.
    Ensure the projector is connected to an audio output device with a 
    correct audio cable.
    Hiding the image
    In order to draw the audience’s full attention to the 
    presenter during a presentation, you can use the 
    Blank button to hide the screen image. Press the 
    Blank  button again to restore the image. A word 
    “ BLANK ” will display at the bottom right corner of 
    the screen when the image is hidden.
    Set the duration of blank time in 
     Control  > 
    Setup> Blank Time  menu.
    Do not block the projection lens from projecting as 
    this could cause the blocking object to become 
    heated and deformed or even cause a fire.
