Line Compensation
Use this action item to specify an amount of equalization compensation based on the length
of cable between the DS1 interface and the Channel Service Unit (CSU) or other far end
connection ports. Table 18-1 gives compensation settings for specific cable lengths.
NOTE: If the cable terminates on DS1 terminal equipment, such as a D4 channel bank,
another System 25, or a System 75, divide the cable length in half before referring to

Zero Code Suppression
Use this action item to select a zero code suppression mode. Zero code suppression is used
to detect and prevent the transmission of an all-zero byte. The mode selected must match
that employed at the far end. The choices are Bipolar 8 Zero Suppress (B8ZS) and Zero
Code Suppression (ZCS). B8ZS is preferred because it provides data transparency.
However, ZCS is compatible with most current T1 equipment and does not cause bipolar
violations.
