AT&TSPIRIT® Communications System Model 2448 Line and Station Cards Installation Instructions WARNING: The SPIRIT® Communications System Model 2448, Line and Station Cards must be installed by an AT&T service technician or a qualified installer. Introduction These instructions will show you how to install 4-line or 8-station expansion cards into the controller or expansion unit of your SPIRIT® Communications System, Model 2448. Please read the instructions carefully before beginning installation. What You Should Find In The Box line or station card four 7’ line cords (with line card only) Installation instructions If you need longer line cords, you may purchase them from your phone store or from your AT&T representative. LINE CARDSTATION CARD Installing a Line or Station Card n Turn off all power at your controller. Turn off the power switch on the power supply unit. The power indicator light will go off. If you have an expansion unit as part of your system, be sure to turn off the power switch on its power supply unit as well. Customization information will be retained. n Remove the front panel. Remove the front panel from the controller or expansion unit by first loosening the screw located at the bottom center of the unit. Lift the panel up and away from the unit; the screw will still be in the panel. Remove and discard the packing material inside the panel. SPIRIT is a registered trademark of AT&T.
n Remove the line or station card from its box and protective packaging. CAUTION: HANDLE THE CARD BY THE PLASTIC FACEPLATE ONLY. STATIC DISCHARGE CAN DAMAGE THE CARDS. n Insert the card into the appropriate slot (LINE or STATION) in the controller. Holding the plastic faceplate, align the back edge of the card with the grooves on the controller. Push the card firmly in until the mating connectors are fully engaged. The card is installed when the plastic faceplate is flush with the surrounding controller plastic and cannot be pushed any further. CAUTION: DO NOT TURN ON THE POWER UNTIL YOU ARE SURE ALL CARDS ARE FIRMLY SEATED. n Connect the new line cords and or telephone cords to the appropriate modular jacks. (See SPIRIT Communications System Model 2448,1224 Controller, Customer Installation Instructions.) The line and station jacks on the controller are numbered on the plastic frame to the left of the card slots. Be sure to label each end of each cord. Record the appropriate numbers on the System Directory Label on the back of the panel. n Replace the front panel. Locate and engage the bottom two hooks on the panel into the housing. Lift up until the top two hooks on the panel engage and then pull down. Tighten the screw at the bottom of the panel. n Turn the system on. Turn on the power switch(es) on the power supply unit(s). The power indicator light(s) will light. Removing a Line or Station Card CAUTION: TO REMOVE A CARD, FIRST TURN OFF THE POWER AT THE POWER SUPPLY UNIT(S). HANDLE THE CARD BY THE PLASTIC FACEPLATE OR LEVERS ONLY. STATIC DISCHARGE CAN DAMAGE THE CARDS. ONCE REMOVED, CARDS SHOULD NOT BE SET ON A METAL SURFACE. Remove the panel on the front of the controller or expansion unit, following the directions on the preceding page. Simultaneously pushup on the top lever of the card and down on the bottom lever of the card. The card will be disengaged from the controller when the levers are pushed as far as they can go.
