Overview
Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) is the third generation of Power Mac G5 computers. It leverages the G5 
architecture with the following new features:
G5 dual core processor (two processors on one chip): The Power Mac G5 (Late 2005 Dual 
2.0 GHz/2.3 GHz) models use a single dual-core PowerPC G5 processor for dual processor 
function. The Power Mac G5 (Late 2005 Quad 2.5 GHz) model uses two dual-core PowerPC 
G5 processors for quad processor power.

Differentiating the Power Mac G5 (Late 2005)
While Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) computers look similar to earlier Power Mac G5 models, you can 
easily differentiate the Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) by checking the back panel. Power Mac G5 (Late 
2005) computers include two Gigabit Ethernet ports and three USB 2.0 ports, as illustrated below.

Gotchas
Although the Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) computer looks similar to earlier Power Mac G5 models, 
there are a number of significant service and support differences. Before troubleshooting or 
servicing a Power Mac G5 (Late 2005), make sure you are familiar with the following points. 
DDR2 memory: The Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) computer uses both ECC and NECC DDR2 DIMMs.

No external antenna: There is no external AirPort Extreme/Bluetooth antenna on the Power Mac 
G5 (Late 2005) computer. The antenna board requires an entirely new take apart procedure.
Modem: There is no internal modem available for the Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) computer. 
Instead, Apple offers a CTO option for an external USB modem.

To identify a particular Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) computer, check the computer’s serial number,

inside the side access panel.

Liquid Cooling System (LCS)
The Power Mac G5 (Late 2005 Quad) configuration uses a liquid cooling system (LCS) to manage 
the temperature in the computer. The liquid cooling system is sealed and is designed to be 
opened only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP). To ensure proper safety and 
handling of the LCS system, please read the following information.

The LCS cooling system fluid is predominantly water (80% or greater)...
