M icrophone e Q section - MICROPHONE TREbLE CONTROL - This knob is used to adjust the treble levels of the Microphone with a maximum signal gain of +12dB or maximum signal decrease of -30dB. Turning the knob in a counter-clockwise direction will decrease the amount of treble applied to the microphone signal, turning the knob in a clockwise direction will increase the amount of treble applied to micro- phone signal. MICROPHONE bASS CONTROL - This knob is used to adjust the low frequency levels of the microphone with a maximum signal gain of +12dB or maximum signal decrease of -30dB. Turning the knob in a counter-clockwise direction will decrease the amount of bass applied to the microphone signal, turning the knob in a clockwise direction will increase the amount of bass applied to micro- phone signal. 24. Pushing this knob and turning it at the same time will let you scroll forward or backward 10 tracks per "click" of the knob. Also, when you press the knob it will toggle between artist, bitrate, title name, and file name of the current song playing out of the SD Player. 26. pitch sLiDer - This slider is used to adjust the playback pitch percentage. The slider is a set adjustment and will remain set until the pitch slider is moved or the pitch function has been turned off. This adjustment can be made with or without a disc in the drive. The pitch adjustment will remain even if a disc has been remove and will reflect on any other disc loaded into the player. That is to say, if you set a +2% pitch on one disc, remove that disc and insert another, that disc too will have a +2% pitch. The amount of pitch being applied will be displayed in the LCd (10). 27. aDV. track Button - While either playing a track or in pause mode, press this button to search for the next track you want to play. When you press this button you will enter ADV. TRACk mode, the FOLDER & TRACk indicators will flash. You can now turn the FOLdEr knOb (37) (if the next track you want to play is another folder) or turn the traCk knOb (25) to search for the next track you want to play. Press the traCk knOb (25) once you found your desired track. The LCD will display "Searching..." and then "FOUND" once the track is found. When the track that is playing comes to an end press the traCk knOb (25) once more to play the track that you searched for. 28. pitch on/oFF Button/percentaGe seLector- Press this button once to activate or deactivate the pitCh sLidEr (26). To change the pitch percentage press and hold the button for 2 seconds. Choose from pitch percentages of 4%, 8%, and 16%. See page 26 for more details. 29. pitch BenD Buttons - (-) pitch BenD Button - The (-) pitch bend function creates a momentary “Slow Down” in the SD’s BPM’s (Beats per minute) while it is playing. This will allow you to match the beats between two playing SD’s or other playing music source. Remember, this is a momentary function. When you remove your finger from the pitch button, the BPM’s will automatically return to pitCh sLidErs (26) pitch value. Holding down this button will give a maximum of -16% pitch. Use this function to slow to another playing music source. Be sure to notice that this function is a momentary pitch adjustment, for a more precise adjustment use the pitCh sLidEr (26) to match the BPM’s with another playing music source. (+) pitch BenD Button - The (+) pitch bend function creates a momentary “BUMP” in the SD’s BPM’s (Beats per minute) while it is playing. This will allow you to match the beats between two play-
ing SD’s or any other music source. Remember, this is a momentary function. When you remove your finger from this button, the BPM’s will automatically return to pitCh sLidErs (26) selected pitch. Holding down this button will give a maximum of +16% pitch. 30. teMpo Lock Function - This button activates the TEMPO LOCk function. This function al- lows you to use the pitCh sLidEr (26) to speed up or slow down playback speed without altering the tonal pitch of the track. When this function is not engaged the original tonal pitch of the track will be altered giving you the "chipmunk" effect when a track is played at a high rate of speed, or the "James Earl Jones" effect when a track is slowed to much. To turn this function off, press and hold down this button for at least 1 second and then release. 31. search Buttons - This search button allows you to quickly scan backwards through a track. This search button allows you to quickly scan forwards through a track. 32. tiMe MoDe - The TIME button will switch the time value described in the tiME MEtEr between ELAPSED PLAYINg TIME and TRACk REMAININg TIME. 33. pLa Y/pause Button - Each press of the pLaY/paUsE bUttOn (33) causes the operation to change from play to pause or from pause to play. While in play mode the blue play LED will glow, and while in pause mode the blue play LED will flash. 34. cue - Pressing the CUE bUttOn during playback immediately pauses playback and returns the track to the last set cue point (see setting a CUE POINT, page 20). The red CUE L.E.D. will glow when the unit is in cue mode. The L.E.D. will also flash every time a new CUE POINT is set. The CUE bUt- tOn can be held down to momentarily play the CD. When you release the CUE bUttOn it instantly returns to the CUE POINT. 35. in Button - “CUE ON THE FLY” - This function allows you to set a CUE POINT (see CUE POINT page 20) without music interruption (“on the fly”). This button also sets the starting point of a seamless loop (see SEAMLESS LOOP page 21). out Button - This button is used to set the ending point of a loop. A loop is started by pressing the in bUttOn, pressing the OUt bUttOn set the loop ending point. The loop will continue to play until the OUt bUttOn is pressed once again. reLoop Button - If a SEAMLESS LOOP has been made (see setting a SEAMLESS LOOP on page 21), but the SD Player is not actively in SEAMLESS LOOP mode (a loop is not playing), press- ing the RELOOP BUTTON will instantly reactivate the SEAMLESS LOOP mode. To exit loop, press the OUt bUttOn (35). LOOP and RELOOP will appear in the LCd dispLa Y (10) when the RELOOP function is available. 36. sD carD sLot - gently insert your SD Card into this slot. To eject the SD Card, make sure the mixer is in PAUSE mode, and then press the SD Card gently. The SD Card should "pop" out. The Q- SD can only read an SD Card up to 4gB. it cannot read an sD card higher then 4GB. it cannot read or accept a sDhc card, it must be a regular sD card. the files must be Mp3 format. please see page 7 for more sD card information. 37. FoLDer search knoB - This knob is used to search through the folders on an SD Card. Pressing the FOLDER SEARCH kNOB will allow you to enter the PRESET menu and activate, SINgLE - ON/OFF, REPEAT - ON/OFF, AUTO CUE - ON/OFF, Q-START - A/B/OFF, and SOFTWARE VERSION. FoLDer inDicator - This will indicate which folder you are in. 40. tiM e Bar in Dicator - This bar gives a visual approximation of a track's remaining time. This bar will begin to flash when a track is ending. 41. BpM Meter - This meter will display the BPM's of the current track. 42. pitch Meter - This meter will display the pitch percentage applied by the pitCh sLidEr (26). 43. pitch in Dicator - Indicator will light up when the Pitch function is activated. 44. Loop/reLoop inDicator - Appears when LOOP is stored. When a LOOP is engaged the indicator will flash. 45. auto cue - This will indicate whether the Auto Cue is on or off. To turn the AUTO CUE on and off you must enter the PRESET MENU. Please see PRESET MENU on page 24. 46. tiMe Meter - These indicators detail the Minutes, Seconds, and Frames. The meter will display either the elapsed or remaining time of a track. 47. character DispLaY - This will display the name of the track and album when a SD Card is loaded. 48. eLapseD/reMain inDicators - When "REMAIN" is indicated in the LCd dispLa Y (10) the tiME dEsCribEd (46) in the LCd will define the current track's remaining time. When "ELAPSED" is indicated in the LCd dispLa Y (10) the tiME dEsCribEd (46) in the LCd will define the current track's elapsed time. You can toggle the indicators by pressing the tiME button (32). 49. repeat in Dicator - This indicates that the repeat function is activated. When the repeat func- tion is activated, the current track playing will repeat itself until the REPEAT function is deactivated. To turn REPEAT on and off you must enter the PRESET MENU. Please see PRESET MENU on page 24. 50. sin GL e in Dicator - This indicates that the player is in single play mode, the track will play once and return to CUE mode. If the single indicator is not on the unit is in continuous mode. In continuous mode the unit will play all the remaining tracks. To turn SIN gLE mode on and off you must enter the PRESET MENU. Please see PRESET MENU on page 24. 51. track inDicator - This 4-digit indicator visually details the current track cued or playing. 52. pLa Y inDicator - The "PLAY" indicator will glow when the unit is in play mode. G nD (G roun D ter Mina L) - Be sure to connect turntable ground leads to either or both of the two available ground terminals. This will reduce the humming and popping noises associated with magnetic phono cartridges. 53. Microphone 2 connector - This jack is used to a connect a microphone to the mixer. Connect you microphone via this 1/4 inch (6.3mm) jack. The volume output level for this microphone will be controlled by the M iC 2 VOLUME kn Ob (21). 54. M ic tri M - This knob is used to adjust the MIC 1 and MIC 2 input level. 55. channe L Line LeVe L se Lector s W itches - These switches are used to change the volt- age line levels of there respected Phono / Aux RCA inputs jacks. When connecting turntables with magnetic cartridges to these jacks be sure the corresponding switch is in the “PHONO” position, and when using line level input devices be sure this switch is in the “AUX” position. Always be sure main power is shut off before changing the position of the Line Level Selector Switch. 56. channe L 1: phono 1/au X 1 input - The type of input must directly reflect the selected mode of the LinE L EVEL sELEC tO r s wit Ch (55). Turntables equipped with MM pickup cartridge (All DJ turntable use MM pick-up cartridges) may be connected to these jacks as long as the Lin E L EVEL sELEC tO r swit Ch (55) is in the “PHONO 1” position. CD players, Tape Decks and other line level instruments may only be connected to these jacks as long as the Lin E L EVEL sELEC tO r swit Ch (55) is in the “AUX 1” position. Never connect line level instruments (CD players, tape decks, etc.) to these jacks when the Lin E L EVEL sELEC tO r swit Ch (55) is in the “PHONO 1” position, this M aY s Eri OU sLY da Mag E YOU r Mix Er! These Jacks are used for line level inputs. Connect CD players or Tape Decks to line level inputs. Line level musical instruments with stereo outputs such as Rhythm Machines or Samplers should also be connected to line level inputs. The red colored RCA jack represents the right channel input and the white represents the left channel input. Input volume will be controlled by the channel four fader. The channel sOU rCE sELEC tO r swit Ch (2) must be in the "Line 4" position, to monitor any source connected to these jacks. 63. rec out - This is a low current unbalanced output source designed for various tape and CD recorders. The Record Out (REC OUT) level is dictated by the Chann EL Fad Er L EVEL (19), it is not influenced by the Mast Er V OLUME COntr OL (5). 64. Zone Le Ve L o utput - Use this separate output signal to drive a booth monitor or separate sound system. The output level for these jacks will be controlled by the ZO nE VOLUME knOb (15). These RCA jacks send a low current, unbalanced output signal. These jacks should only be used for shorter cable runs (under 15 feet) to signal processors or looping to another mixer. 65. rca Master o utputs - The Master Output includes a pair xLr b aLan CEd ja C ks (68) as well as a pair of RCA Unbalanced Jacks. The RCA jacks send a low current unbalanced output signal. These jacks should only be used for shorter cable runs to signal processors or looping to another mixer. For cable runs greater than 15 feet use the xLr b aLan CEd ja C ks (68). 66. pLa Y er contro L channe Ls 1 - 4 - This jack is used to control the “Q-Start” function between the mixer and a compatible American Audio® or American DJ® CD Player. For more infor- mation on “Q-Start” functionallity refer to the user manual included with your CD player. Be sure to only use the mono tip mini plug included with your CD player to avoid damage to the mixer and/or the CD player.

Output voltage wil range from 0v ~ 9v. This function may be used to limit the maximum siganl output level. 68. BaLance D XL r M aster o utputs Jacks - The Master Output includes a pair of XLR Balanced jacks as well as a pair of r C a Unba Lan CEd ja C ks (65). The 3-pin XLR jacks send a high current balanced output signal. These jacks should be used when you will be driving an amp or other audio equipment with a balanced input, or whenever you will be running a signal line greater than 15 feet. Always, use these jacks whenever possible. 69. ac connection - This connector is used to supply main power to the unit via the included detachable power cord. The power connection uses an I.E.C. type connector, use only the supplied, polarized AC power cord. Use only a power cord that matches this type of connection. Be sure to only connect this unit to a power outlet that matches the printed power label on the unit. Never use a power cord when the ground prong has been removed or broken off. The ground prong is used to reduce the risk of electrical shock in case of an electrical short. This cord is designed to fit in one direction only. Do not attempt to force a cord if it does not fit, be sure the cord is being inserted properly. 70. ac VoLta Ge se Lector - This switch is used to change the operating voltage. Operating voltage can be toggled between 115V~60Hz or 230V~50Hz. Be sure the selector is set to the proper voltage for your area before attempting to operate the unit. Always be sure main power is shut off before change the position of the Voltage Selector Switch. *Only dual voltage units have this switch.
Q-SD SD PLAYER bASIC OPERATIONS Figure 1: To eject the SD Card press the sd Card "in" until it "pops" out. remeber: when loading a sd Card always load the card with the label facing you and the contacts are facing down and away. LOADING/EJECTING AN SD CARD The Q-SD can only read an SD Card up to 4gB. it cannot read an sD card higher then 4GB. it cannot read or accept a sDhc card, it must be a regular sD card. the files must be Mp3 format. When loading an SD Card into the player load with the SD Card label facing you. To remove the card from the player gently press the card "in" until it "pops' out. CAUTION: • NEVER attempt to load any SD Cards higher then 4gB, or an SDHC Card. • NEVER attempt to eject the SD Card when in PLAY mode. 2. SELECTING TRACkS First select your desired folder by turning the FOLdEr knOb (37) either clockwise or counterclockwise. Once you have found your desired folder select a desired track by using the traCk knOb (25). Turning the traCk knOb (25) once will select either the next higher or lower track, depending on which way you turn it. 6. stoppinG pLaYBack - Figures 4 & 5 Stopping playback will not stop the reading mecha- nism, but merely pause or cue the track, this func- tion allows the unit to begin play instantly. The read- ing mechanism will only stop if a SD Card is ejected. There are two ways to stop (pause) playback: 1) Press the pLa Y/paUsE bUttOn (33) during playback. This will pause playback at the exact same point the pLa Y/paUsE bUttOn (33) was pressed. 2) Press the CUE bUttOn (34) during playback. This will pause playback and return the track to the last set cue point. 3. startinG pLaYBack - Figure 4 Insert an SD Card as described on page 18 (LOading/ EjECting an sd Card). Pressing the pLa Y/paUsE bUttOn (33) with an SD Card is loaded will imme- diately start playback. The pLaY (52) indicator will glow as soon as playback begins. The point at which playback starts (cue point) will automatically be stored in the memory as the cue point. The unit will return to this cue point (the point at which playback started) when the CUE bUttOn (34) is pressed and released. Q-SD SD PLAYER bASIC OPERATIONS (CONT.) Figure 4 Figure 5 5. auto cue This function will automatically set a cue point to the first audio source when a SD Card is loaded. The first set cue point will always be the beginning of track 1. If a new track is selected before the pLa Y bUttOn (33) is pressed, a new CUE POINT will be set to reflect the new starting point. 4. p ausinG - Figure 4 This function pauses playback at the exact same point the pLa Y/paUsE bUttOn (33) was pressed. Pressing the pLaY/paUsE bUttOn (33) will switch between play and pause modes. When the unit is in pause mode the paUsE indiCatOr (52) in the LCd dispLa Y (10) and the blue pLaY/paUsE bUttOn (33) L.E.D. will begin to flash repeatedly. ©American Audio® - www.americanaudio.us - Q-SD Instruction Manual Page 19
7. FraMe search This feature allows you to scroll through a track frame by frame, allowing you to find and set a starting cue or loop point. To use the scroll function you must first be in Pause Mode (see section 4) or Cue Mode (see section 5). Once you are in Pause or Cue mode, press the sEarCh bUttOns (31) to scroll through the track (Figure 6). When you use the sEarCh bUttOns (31) the monitor (headphone level) function allows you to here what you are scrolling through. Once you reach your desired starting point you can set a cue (starting) point by pressing the pLaY/paUsE bUttOn (33) as in Figure 4. Pressing the CUE bUttOn (34) as in Figure 5 will now return you to the point you just set. Figure 6 8. settinG a cue point : A cue point is the exact point playback will begin when the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON (33) is pressed. A cue point may be created anywhere on a disc or in a track. 1) You may press the in bUttOn (35) on the fly (while the SD Card is playing). This will set a CUE Point without music in- terruption. Pressing the CUE bUttOn (34) will now return you to the same point that you pressed the in bUttOn (35). Pressing the CUE bUttOn (34) will now return you to this exact point. Figure 7 Figure 8 2) You may also use the sEarCh bUttOns (31) to set a cue point. While a SD Card is in PAUSE or CUE mode, Use the sEarCh bUttOns (31) to scroll through a track to find your desired starting point. Once you have found your desired position press the pLa Y bUttOn (33) to set your cue point.
