keypadswillblinkrapidlytoacknowledgethatyouhaveremovedthe
auto-armingtimefortheday.

screw(Note:TharetainingscrewisnotpresentinmodelssoldinCanada).

guaranteedprotectionagainstburgla~,fireorotheremergency.Anyalarm
aysfem,whetherwmmercialorresidential,iseubjecftocompmmlseorfailure
towarnforavarietyofreasons.Forexample:
.Intrudersmaygainameeethroughunprotectedopeningsorhavethe
technicalsophisticationtobypaseanalarmsensorordisconnectan
alarmwarningdevice.
.Intrusiondetectors(e.g.,passiveinfrareddetectors),emoke
detectore,andmanyothersensingdeviceswillnotWOWwithout
power.Bafteyoperateddeviceswillnotworkwithoutbatteries,wkh

doors.Smokedetactorsmaynotsenseafireona~therlevelofa
residenceorbuilding.Asemndfloordetector,forexample,maynot
senseafirstfloororbasementfire.Moreover,emokedetectorshave
sensingtim~ations.Nosmokedetectorcansanseeverykindoffire
everytime.Ingeneral,detectorsmaynota~ayswarnshutfires
cauaedbycsreleesneseandsafafyh~ardsfikesmokinginbed,
violentexplosions,eecapinggas,improperstorageofflammable
materials,overloadedelectricalcircuits,c~ldrenplayingwith
matches,orarson.Dependingonthenatureofthefireandorthe
locationofthesmkedetectors,thedetector,eveniftioperatesas
anticipated,maynotprovideeufticientwarningtoallowalloccupanfa
toescapeintimetopreventinjuryordeath.

createmultiplebeamsofprotection,andintrusioncanonlybe
detectedinunobstructedareasreveredbythebeams.Theycannot
detectmotionorintrusionthattakesplacebehindwalls,ceifings,
floors,closeddoors,glasspatitions,glassdoors,orwindow.
Mechanicaltampering,roasting,painting,orsprayingofanymatedal
onthemirrors,windowsoranypartoftheopticalsystemcanreduce
theirdetectionatri~iy.PaeeiveInfraredDetectorssensechangesin
temperature;however,astheamhenftemperatureoftheprotected
areaapproachesthetemperaturerangeof90to150F,thedetection
performancecandecrease.
Alarmwarningdevicessuchassirens,bellsorhornsmaynotalert
peopleorwakeupsleeperswhoarelocatedontheothersideof
closedorpartlyopendoors.Ifwarningdevicessoundonadtieranf
leveloftheresidencefromthebedrooms,thenfheyarefesslikelyto
wakenoralertpeopleinsidethebedrooms.Evenpersonawhoare
awakemaynofhearthewarningifthealarmismuffledbynoisefrom
astereo,radio,airconditionerorotherapp~ances,orbypassing
traffic.Hnally,alarmwarningdevices,howeverloud,mynotwarn
hearing-impairedpeopleorwakendeepsleepers.
Telephonehnesneededtotransmitalarmsignalsfromapremisesto
acentralmonitoringatafionmaybeoutofsemiceortem~rarilyout
ofsewice.Telephonetinesarealsosubjecttocompromiseby
sophisticatedintruders.
Evenifthesyetemrespondstotheemergencyasintended,however,
occupanfsmayhaveinauffiiienftimetoprotectthemselvesfromthe
emergencysituation.Inthecaseofamonfioredalarmsy~em,
authoritiesmaynotrespondappropriately.
Thisequipment,tikeotherelectricaldevices,iseubjecftocompcnenf
failure.Eventhoughthisequipmentisdesignedtolastaslongas10
years,theelectroniccomponentscouldfailatanytime.
Themostcommoncauseofanalarmsystemnotfunctioningwhenanintrusion
orfireomrsisinadequatemaintenance.Thisalarmsystemshouldbetested
weeklytomakesureallsensorsarewortdngproperfy.
Insfalffnganalarmsystemmaymakeonee~gibleforlowerinsuranceratea,but
analarmeystemisnotasubstituteforinsurance.Homeowners,property
ownersandrentersshouldcontinuetoactprudentlyinprotectingthemselves
andm~nuetoinsurs
theirKvesandproperty.
