5 INSTALLATION Positioning This appliance is designed to operate in ambient temperatures between 10 ° C (50 ° F) and 32 ° C (90 ° F). It should be located in a dry atmosphere, out of direct sunlight and away from extreme temperature e.g. not next to a cooker or other sources of direct heat, or in a very cold room e.g. an outhouse, where the temperatures may fall below 10 ° C (50 ° F). If these temperatures are exceeded i.e. colder or warmer, then the appliance may not operate correctly. Fig. 1 3P02 5 cm Levelling The appliance is provided with two levelling feet located at the front, and two rear castors for easy movement. The refrigerator should be carefully levelled, adjusting the feet as shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 Before using Before switching the appliance on, wash the inside of the appliance with lukewarm water and a little bicarbonate of soda (5ml to 0.5 litre of water). 3P 03
6 DOOR REVERSAL The appliance is normally supplied with doors which open from left to right. To change the opening direction, proceed as follows: Bottom door: 1. Unclip and remove the ventilation grille (A). 2. Unscrew and remove the lower hinge (B) and slide the lower door from its top hinge. 3. Unscrew the pin (C) from the hinge and refit it onto the hinge on the opposite side. 4. Refit the lower door onto pin (C) and reassemble the lower hinge (B) on the opposite side. 5. Break off the plug (D) from the ventilation grille. You may need a pair of pliers for this. 6. Fit the plug (E) (supplied with the appliance) into the slot left open on the other side. 7. Refit the ventilation grille (A) clipping it into position. Top door: 1. Unscrew the hinge (G) and remove the upper door. 2. 8 USE Control panel A - On-Off Button E - Freezer temperature selector button B - Refrigerator temperature indicator F - Fast freeze button C - Refrigerator temperature selector button G - Alarm reset button D - Freezer temperature indicator H - Warning light °C °C S H G F E D C B A After plugging into the mains supply socket, press the On-Off button (A - first button on the left) to switch on the appliance. At this point, the appliance is preset to run at the following temperatures: +5 ° C in the refrigerator compartment –18 ° C in the freezer compartment These are the usual operating conditions. It will take a few hours for these temperatures to be reached (as an indication, within about 4 hours of switching on at ambient temperature of about 20 ° C). When the appliance is switched on at ambient temperature, the displays are as follows: Red warning light (H) flashes; Freezer temperature indicator (D) shows the current temperature in the freezer compartment; Refrigerator temperature indicator (B) shows a steady illuminated dash sign « », which changes to figures as soon as the temperature inside the refrigerator compartment reaches +9 ° C. To stop warning light (H) from flashing, press alarm reset button (G) (far right-hand side - see “Overtemperature alarm and memory device”). TEMPERATURE INDICATION The temperatures inside the refrigerator compartment (symbol ) and the freezer compartment (symbol ) are shown by indicators (B) and (D) respectively, located on the control panel next to the appropriate symbols. The indicators show the temperature inside the compartments: Refrigerator temperature indicator (B) Consists of a single digit indicating temperatures between 0 ° C and +9 ° C, with temperatures higher than +9 ° C indicated by means of a steady illuminated dash sign « », and temperatures lower than 0 ° C indicated by flashing of the same dash sign. Freezer temperature indicator (D) Consists of two digits indicating the temperature inside the freezer compartment. Warning Frequent or prolonged opening of the refrigerator and freezer doors can cause slight variations in temperature: there can also be considerable variations if large quantities of hot or warm food are placed in the appliance.
9 USING THE APPLIANCE For best results, we recommend that various types of food be loaded as follows: 1. Cooked food, drinks, cold meats, food used everyday. For best use of space, the front shelves can be stacked on top of the rear ones. 2. Fruit and vegetables. 3. Butter, cheese and eggs. 4. Bottled drinks or cartons, milk. 5. Sealed pre-packed meat, fish, poultry and cooked dishes. 6. Ice-cube maker and container. 7. Fast-freeze compartments. 8. Frozen food storage. 9. Freezer chart. 10 REFRIGERATOR COMPARTMENT SETTING The temperature in this compartment can be freely adjusted between +8°C (highest setting) and +2°C (lowest setting). The temperature setting is adjusted by pressing button (C) and keeping it pressed in for more than 4 seconds; a progressively lower figure is shown by indicator (B) every 2 seconds (between 8 and 2). If the button is held in after the figure 2 has appeared, the indicator will return to 8 and then continue to cycle through progressively lower figures. Simply release the button once the required temperature setting has been reached. The indicator will continue to flash for a few seconds and will then go back to showing the actual temperature inside the compartment. A flashing display of the temperature setting selected can be obtained at any time by pressing button (C). This may be different from the actual temperature indicated – either because a different temperature setting has only recently been selected, or because the door has been opened and/ or warm food has been placed in the compartment; however the temperature displayed during normal operation may vary by about 1°C above or below the set temperature. As soon as the button is released, the actual temperature inside the refrigerator will again be shown on indicator (B). Important We recommend that loose food (cheese, cold meats, cooked food etc.) be stored in plastic bags so as to preserve their natural freshness and aroma. Use and features of CrispÕN Fresh filter “Crisp’N Fresh” is the glass shelf on top of the salad crispers which is fitted with special removable green filters. These filters allow cool air from the fridge to circulate through the drawers but help prevent moisture loss. By retaining moisture in foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and salad they are kept fresher for longer. Fig. 5 Cleaning the filter The filter is held by two small support frames which press into position and are therefore easily removed for cleaning. To do this, turn the glass shelf upside down and release the frames as shown in the illustration. Fig. 6 The filters and the glass cover can be washed gently in warm soapy water, they should not be put in the dishwasher. Replacement filters may be obtained from your local Zanussi Service Centre. 3P 22 D 003
