Printing on Specialty Media Phaser® 4510 Laser Printer 3-45 7.If you selected New Custom Size, select the custom width and height: a.For Short Edge, use the Up Arrow and Down Arrow buttons to specify the short edge, and then press the OKbutton. b.For Long Edge, use the Up Arrow and Down Arrow buttons to specify the long edge, and then press the OK button. c.If the control panel prompts you for the Paper Orientation, use the Up Arrow and Down Arrow buttons to select the direction you are feeding the paper into the tray. Note:When you define a new custom size, it is stored in the printer so it can be used again. Up to five custom sizes can be stored in the printer. If you define a new custom size after five custom sizes have been stored, the new custom size replaces the least recently used. 8.Either use the custom size as the document size in the application or select the appropriate tray as the paper source. Creating Custom Paper Types Custom paper types are created in CentreWare IS and appear in the printer driver, control panel, and CentreWare IS. Use this feature to create your own custom paper type with specific settings that you can reuse for routine print jobs, for example, monthly reports. To create custom paper types: 1.Launch your web browser. 2.Enter the printer’s IP address in the browser’s Address field (http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). 3.Click Properties. 4.Select the General folder on the left navigation panel. 5.Select Custom Paper Types. 6.Enter or modify the settings, and then click Save Changes at the bottom of the page. Controlling the Quality of Your Prints Phaser® 4510 Laser Printer 4-2 Controlling the Quality of Your Prints The print-quality mode directly controls the quality of your prints, and the paper type directly controls the print speed. You can change these settings in the printer driver or on the control panel. Note:Driver settings override the control panel settings. See also: Advanced Features Guide at www.xerox.com/office/4510suppor t Selecting a Print-Quality Mode There are two print-quality modes: To select the print-quality mode in a supported driver: Print-Quality Mode Type of Print Job 600 x 600 dpiBest general-purpose mode for high-speed printing. Produces crisp, bright prints. True 1200 x 1200 dpiHighest-quality prints with best detail. Recommended for photo prints. Produces superior text resolution. Operating System Steps Windows Vista, Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003On the Paper/Output tab, select a print-quality mode. Mac OS X (version 10.2 and higher) driver:In the Print dialog box, select Image Quality from the drop-down list, and then select a print quality mode from the Print Quality drop-down list. If you observe print- quality problems, use the information in this topic to diagnose the problem. For best results, use only Xerox Printing Media. For information on supported paper types and weights, see Supported Paper and Media on page 3-3. Caution:Damage caused by using unsupported paper, transparencies, and other specialty media is not covered by the Xerox warranty, service agreement, or Total Satisfaction Guarantee. Possible Causes Solutions If you just installed a new print cartridge, the yellow sealing tape may still be in place.Remove the tape. Multiple sheets may have been fed from the paper tray at the same time.Remove the paper from the paper tray and fan it. Also, ensure that the paper is correctly loaded in the tray. Printable data may not have been received from the computer.Print a Configuration page. ■If the Configuration page prints correctly, check the interface cable between the computer and printer, the printer setup, and application software. ■If the Configuration page is blank, replace the print cartridge then reprint the Configuration page. Replace the print cartridge.
