HOWTOCAREFORYOURMODEL1400- Protectyourgunwithgoodguncareprod- ucts.Giveitregularattention,anditwillpro- videyouwithmanyyearsofshootingfun. REMEMBER -RUSTISNEGLECT-Make sureallexposedmetalsurfacesarecoated withafilmofoil.Afterbeingsubjectedto dampweatherthoroughlywipeoutthebore andwipeoffthemetalsurfaces.Thenapply anewfilmofoil.Ifexposedtoasoakingrain, snoworsaltsprayamorethoroughcleaning andoilingmaybenecessary,requiringre- movalofthetriggerguardandbreechbolt assemblies. ~l~~~~Betweenseasons,applyacoatof Tgreasetotheboreandmetalpartsand storeinadryplace.DONOTPLUGTHE BARREL,orstoreinacasethatismadeofa fabricormaterialwhichwillabsorbthelub- ricantfromthegun. IMPORTANT-Withthebarrelremoved fromthereceiverdonotallowthebreech bolttocloseunrestricted.Repeated,full force,closingoftheboltwiththebarreloff willabusetheactionparts.Instead,graspthe cockinghandlebeforepushingtheactionre- leasebuttonandpermittheactiontoclose slowly. TOASSEMBLE ~;,~...~~~1.MAKESURETHEGUNISNOT TLOADEDANDTHESAFETYISINTHE ONPOSITION. ON -i ;\- 2.Unscrewandremovethevalvecapas- semblyfromthemagazinetube. 3.Slidetheforearmforwardandoffthemag- azinetube. 4.Placetheforearmagainstthebarrelasil- lustratedandslidetheforearmforwardover themagazinebracket.Themagazinebracket onthebarrelshouldbecompletelyhiddenby theforearm. / . MAGAZINE TUBE BRACKET ~ :/ I 5.Carefullyplacethebreechboltinthefor- wardpositionaspreviouslyinstructed. 6.Holdingthebarrel-forearmcombinationin onehand,insertthemagazinetubeintothe openingIntherearof1heforearm.Slidethe barrelandforearmtogetherbackasfarasit willgo.Thereshouldbenospacebetween thefrontofthereceiverandthematching shoulderonthebarrel.
7.Replacethevalveassemblybackontothe magazineandturnuntilhandtight. ~ ~l~~~~HOWTOLOAD -USETHECOR- TRECTAMMUNITIONREFERENCED BYTHEINSCRIPTIONONTHEBARREL. BEFORELOADINGYOURGUNBESURE ALLGREASEANDOILHASBEENRE- MOVEDFROMTHEBARRELANDCHAM- BER,ANDTHEREISNOOBSTRUCTION. 1.Pullthecockinghandleallthewayback untilthebreechboltlatchesopen. ~l~N~~~2.PLACETHESAFETYINTHEON TPOSITION.Thechambercannowbe loadedbyinsertingashelldirectlyintothe ejectionport. --=l- - ~;\- ~l~N~~~3.KEEPYOURFINGERSCLEAROF TTHEEJECTIONPORTandpressthe actionreleasebuttonontheundersideof thereceiver.Theactionwillsnapclosed placingtheshellinthechamber.Thegunis nowreadytobefiredsingleshot. ~l~~~~4.LOADINGTHEMAGAZINE- TWITHTHESAFETYINTHEONPO- SITIONandtheactionclosed,pushtheshot shellupwardsagainstthecarrierandfor- wardintothemagazine.Therewillbea clickasthecutoff(thepartthatholdsthe shellinthemagazinetube)snapsinto position. 5.Repeattheprevioussteptoloadthesec- ondshellintothemagazinetube,againmak- ingsurethecutoffhassnappedintoposition. ~TOUNLOADTHECHAMBERAND TMAGAZINE-BESURETHESAFETY ISINTHEONPOSITION(THEREDWARN- INGBANDMUSTNOTBEVISIBLE). 1.Pullthecockinghandleallthewayback, extractingandejectingtheshellfromthe chamber. 2.Releasethecockinghandleallowingthe bolttoclose.Repeatthisoperationuntilthe gunisempty.Afterthelastshellisejected thebreechboltwilllatchintheopenposition. ~IMPORTANT-ALWAYSVISUALLY TCHECKANDKNOWFORSURETHAT YOURGUNISNOTLOADED,BYVIEWING BOTHTHECHAMBERANDTHEMAGAZINE THROUGHTHEOPENACTION. ALTERNATEWAYTOUNLOAD-Theshells canberemovedfromthemagazinefirstby: ~~~N~~~1.PLACETHESAFETYINTHEON TPOSITION. 2.Turnthegunoversothetriggerguardis up,thenpushthecarrierdownasfarasit willgo. . 3.Pushinwardonthecartridgecutoffonthe rightreleasingtheshellfromthemagazine. Pressthecutoffagaintoreleasethesecond sh!3l1.

ON ~ ~.I I ~ -------- ~Whenfired,theModel1400sauto- Ymaticactionwillejectthefiredshell, cockthehammerandonclosingwillplace anewshellfromthemagazineintothecham- berreadyforthenextshot.Whenthelast shellinthegunisfiredtheactionwillremain openandconvenientforreloading.WHEN THROUGHFIRINGALWAYSPUTTHE SAFETYINTHEONPOSITION. ~TOTAKEDOWN -1.OPENTHEAC- ~TIONANDMAKESURETHEGUNIS NOTLOADED. 2.ClosetheactionandPLACETHESAFETY INTHEONPOSITION. 3.Unscrewandremovethevalveassembly fromthemagazine. -- 4.Toremovethebarrel,slidethebarreland forearmforwardasasingleunituntilthe forearmclearstheendofthemagazinetube. ~ 5.Removetheforearmfromthebarrelby slidingtheforearmtotherearandliftingfree ofthemagazinebracketonthebarrel. TOREMOVETHEBREECHBOLT 1.Removethebarrelandforearmasex- plainedearlier. :;~~...~~~2.BESUREGUNISUNLOADED. ~CLOSEACTION,PUSHSAFETYTO ONPOSITION,turngununtiltriggerguard isup,andpushouttriggerguardpinfromleft.
3.Lifttriggergroupoutofreceiverbypull- ingontriggerguard. 4.Donotpulltriggerafterdisassembly. 5.Removetheejector(theflatspringlike piecethatfitsalongtheinsidewallofthere- ceiver)bybendingtherearsectionofthe ejectorinwardjustenoughtodisengagethe smallretainingpininthesideofthereceiver. Pulltheejectoroutthebarrelholeinthefront ofthereceiver. :;;~N~~~6.THEPISTONISUNDERSPRING TTENSION.WITHTHEGUNUPRIGHT ANDTHEMAGAZINEPOINTEDINASAFE DIRECTION,insertascrewdriverorasuit- ablerodintothecoilsoftheclosingspring attheforwardendoftheslotinthetopofthe magazinetube.Drawbackonthetoolreliev- ingthetensionfromthepiston.Whileholding thespringcompressed,removethepiston pinthatconnectstheslidearmstothepiston. Place.yourfreehandovertheendofthemag- azinetube,thenremovethetoolfromthe coilsandwithdrawthepistonandclosing springfromtheendofthetube.Disconnect andremovetheslidearmsfromthereceiver. 7.Removethecockinghandlebridgescrew (thescrewintheundersideoftheboltas- sembly).Thefiringpinisunderspringten- sionandwillsnapoutoftherearofthe breechboltwhenthecockinghandlebridge isliftedfromthebreechboltslide.Remove thefiringpinandspring. 8.Slidethebreechboltwiththecocking handletotherearofthereceiver.Graspthe cockinghandleandbytippingandmanipu- latingthehandle,removethecockinghandre bridgeoutthroughtheejectionportinthe receiver.Nowthebreechboltassemblymay beliftedoutorslidoutthefrontofthere- ceiver.Forroutinecleaningnofurtherdis- mantlingisnecessary. TOREINSTALLTHEBREECHBOLT ASSEMBLY 1.Insertthebreechboltassemblythrough thefrontofthereceiverandmovetheas- semblytotherearofthereceiver.Holding thecockinghandle,insertthebridgesection inthroughtheejectionport.Thenbytipping andmanipulatingthecockinghandleplace thebridgeintopositiononthebreechbolt slide.Slidetheassemblyforwardinthere- ceiver,thenliftuptherearofthecocking handlebridgeandinsertthefiringpinwith thefiringpinspringintothebackofthe breechbolt.Whenthefiringpinisinposi- tionlowertherearofthebridgesothetailof thebridgeentersthegrooveinthefiringpin, toholditinplace.Next,installthebridge screw,securingthebridgetotheboltslide. 2.Inserttheslidearmsintothereceiverand connectthearmswiththematchingnotches inthecockinghandlebridge. 3.Placetheendoftheclosingspringhaving thesmallercoilsintotheendofthemagazine tube.Placeascrewdriverorasuitabletool intocoilsoftheclosingspringthroughthe forwardendoftheslotinthetubeandbe- tweentheslidearms.Positionthepistoninto thetubesothe3holesinthepistonareup andwiththelargersingleholetotherear. 0;~N~~~WITHTHEMAGAZINEPOINTEDINA TSAFEDIRECTION,drawbackonthe tool,compressingtheclosingspring.Align thelargerholeinthepistonwiththeholein theforwardendoftheslidearms.Insertthe pistonpinthroughtheholeintheslidearm andintothepiston.Thenremovethetoolre- leasingthespring. HOWTOINSTALLTHEEJECTOR -With thebowedsidetowardthebreechbolt,slide theflatendoftheejectorthroughthebarrel holeinthereceiveranddownbetweenthe breechboltslideandtheleftinsidewallof thereceiver.Bendtherearoftheejector slightlyinwardandconnecttheejectorwith theretainingpininthesideofthereceiver. ~TOREINSTAllTHETRIGGER GUARDASSEMBLY 1.WiththehammercockedandtheSAFETY ONplacetheforwardendoftheguardas- semblyintothereceiver.Locatetheslide HAMMER >I ~ supports(theflatbarsonthesidesofthe assembly)intothematingnotchesinthe throatofthemagazine. 2.Pivottherearoftheguardintothere- ceiverandinsertthetriggerguardpininto therightsideofthereceiver. INSTAllATIONANDREMOVALOF THEWINCHOKE REMOVAL-ToremovetheWINCHOKE fromthebarrel,inserttheprojectiononthe specialWINCHOKEtoolintotheholeonthe knurledportionofWINCHOKEtubeandturn counterclockwise. INSTAllATION-TheWINCHOKEshould besnuglyfitted,butnotover-tightenedfor easeofremovallaterandpossibledamageto thebarrel.TheWINCHOKEhasarighthand threadandwiththeaidofthespecialtool simplyscrewthetubeofyourchoiceintothe muzzleofthebarrel. TENCOMMANDMENTSOF FIREARMSSAFETY Agoodhunterisasafehunter.Heknowsthereis noplaceforhorseplayinhunting.Helearnsand obeysthecommandmentsoffirearmssafetyand insiststhathiscompanionsknowandfollowthe~, too.
