Setting the aperture:Set the centre disc of thecalculator (5a) for thespeed (ASA or DIN num-ber) of the film beingused You can then readoff against the feet scale(in yellow) or the metrescale (in white) the aper-ture number needed at agiven subject distance;set this on the aperturescale (7). Aperture and depth of fleld The depth of field is the area of the subject, infront of and behind the point focused on, whichwill be reproduced with acceptable sharpness onthe film; it extends from the distance shown on theleft of the focusing scale against the aperture num-ber on scale (2) matching that set on the camerato the distance shown against the same aperturenumber to the right of the A mark. l,lote: when the aperture is set onsmall numbers (e.9. 2.8 or 4) there isless depth of field; at the higheraperture numbers (e.9. 11 or 16)there is greater depth of field. Small accessories you will find useful r lf you find it difficult to judge the subject dis-tance the neat Voigtlender rangefinder, which clipsinto the accessory shoe, will relieve you of thistrouble. o Voigtldnder filters (32 mm diam) are available invarious colours and densities for black-and-whiteand colour photography. All filters are surface-coated r lf you want to photograph small objects and ani-mals in close-up, there are two Focar supplemen-tary lenses you can use. The PROXIRECT devicewill help with close-up focusing. o The Voigtldnder lenshood will not only keep outall the stray light which spoils the sharpness andflattens the contrast of your picture - it is invalu-able for protecting the lens from rain and snowduring bad-weather photography.
