2 Introduction Thank you for purchasing the VS27G, VS28B Vivitar Digital Camera. Everything you need to take quality digital photos and videos is included with your device. Please read this manual carefully FIRST in order to get the most out of your digital camera. Important Notice: Please do not plug the camera into the USB port of your computer until you have installed the Vivitar Experience Image Manager – TARGET Edition software and the camera`s driver. Plugging in your camera at this stage will cause the device to not be recognized by the computer and no images will be downloaded. 3 Computer System Requirements for Windows XP To be able to download photos and videos to your PC, you will need the following minimum configuration: Pentium 4 processor or above with Windows XP service pack 2 512 MB RAM, with 100MB of free disk space 1024 x 768 Recommended screen resolution 16-bit color or higher display adaptor CD-ROM Drive QuickTime 6 or higher Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher Windows Media Player 10 or higher Computer System Requirements for Windows Vista To be able to download photos and videos to your PC your will need the following minimum configuration: Windows Vista 800MHz processor and 512 MB of system memory 20GB hard drive with at least 15GB of available space Support for Super VGA graphics Available USB Interface CD-ROM drive QuickTime 6 or higher Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or higher

5 Inserting Batteries Your camera requires three (3) AAA alkaline batteries, which must be inserted as follows: 1. Open the battery compartment on the side of the camera. 2. Insert the batteries in accordance with the polarity (+/-) shown on the inside of the compartment. 3. Close the battery compartment. Battery Capacity Icons An icon will appear on the top right corner of your LCD screen, showing the amount of battery power available. Once the battery indicator falls below 35% it is advisable to download the images to your computer as quickly as possible so as not to lose them. Once the batteries run low and the camera turns off, the images will be erased from the camera`s memory. Removing the batteries and replacing them with new ones also erases the images from the camera`s memory. more than 70% power 35%-70% power 5%-35% power less than 5% power
6 When the battery is running low, a “low battery” message will appear on the LCD Display and then automatically switch off. In this case you will need to replace the camera‟s batteries before continuing to take photos. Warning: Please download any photos you have on the camera before opening the battery compartment Do not remove the batteries before downloading the photos and videos from the camera. Doing so will erase everything in the camera`s memory. Note: We recommend downloading and saving your photos and videos often so as not to lose them if the battery power becomes too low. Camera Modes Note: In order to download the photos and videos captured with this camera you need to install the Vivitar Experience Image Manager – TARGET Edition and camera specific driver for this device. See the “Install the Vivitar Experience Image Manager – TARGET Edition Software” section of this manual to learn how to install the software before connecting the camera to your computer. Press the Power/Menu button to power on the camera. Once powered on, if you want to make changes to the camera‟s default settings, please read the instructions of this manual.
7 By default the Photo mode is ready to take photos on powering on the camera. To select another mode: 1. Press the Power/Menu button again for the Main Menu screen to appear. 2. Use the Up/Down button to toggle between the menu icons on the screen. 3. Use the Shutter button to toggle and select the different submenu features within each menu. 4. Press the Power/Menu button to save your choice. The camera modes on the Main Menu are: First icon options (top left): Photo, Self-Timer, Video and Continuous 3 shot Second icon (top middle): Resolution Settings Third icon (top right): Compression Settings Fourth icon (bottom left): Frequency Settings Fifth icon (bottom middle): Delete Taking Photos 1. In the Photo mode the camera icon appears in the top left corner of the Preview Screen.
8 2. Compose your shot using the viewfinder. (The optimal distance between the camera and the subject is approximately 5 feet.) 3. Hold the camera steady and press the Shutter button to take a photo. 4. After each photo is taken the number of photos left to shoot at the selected resolution is displayed at the bottom left of the Preview Screen. 5. This camera also has a Flash feature. To activate and select the Flash setting that you wish, press the Up button to toggle between the Auto, Force On and Force Off options. 6. The camera will beep when a photo is taken. If the camera beeps twice continuously and “Memory is Full” appears on the Preview Screen it means no further photos can be taken until the existing photos are downloaded and cleared from the camera`s memory. Note: After a photo is taken the Preview Screen will display for a short time the number of photos that can still be taken. Self-Timer 1. Press the Menu button once to enter the menu. 2. Press the Shutter button until the icon appears in the top left icon area of Preview Screen display. 3. Press the Menu button again to save the choice and exit the menu.
9 4. The Self-Timer icon now appears in the top left corner of the Preview Screen. 5. The camera is now ready to take a photo after a 10-second count down. 6. Press the Shutter button to start the countdown. The camera will emit a beep for every second. After 10 seconds the photo will be taken automatically. Taking Videos 1. Press the Menu button once to enter the menu. 2. Press the Shutter button until the icon appears in the top left icon area of Preview Screen display. 3. Press the Menu button again to save the choice and exit the menu. 4. The Video icon now appears in the top left corner of the Preview Screen. 5. Press the Shutter button to start shooting the video and again to stop the video capture. The video is saved as an AVI file in the camera`s memory. 6. During video capture the recording elapsed time will be appear on the bottom right corner of the Preview Screen. Taking 3 Continuous Shots 1. Press the Menu button once to enter the menu.
