Refer to the Utilities and applications section in
    this chapter.
Plug and PlayWhen you connect an external device to the
computer or when you install a component, Plug
and Play capability enables the system to
recognize the connection and make the
    necessary configurations automatically.
Hot keysHot keys are specific key combinations that let
you quickly change the system configuration
directly from the keyboard without running a
    system program.

    power off
*1This feature automatically cuts off power to the
computers display panel when there is no
keyboard input for a specified time, with power
being restored the next time a key is pressed.
This can be specified in the Power Options.
    HDD automatic power
    off
*1This feature automatically cuts off power to the
hard disk drive when it is not accessed for a
specified time, with power being restored when
the hard disk drive is next accessed. This can be

    Introduction
Keypad overlayA ten-key numeric keypad is integrated into the
keyboard. Please refer to the Keypad overlay
section in Chapter 5, The Keyboard, for
    information on using this feature.
Power on passwordTwo levels of password security, supervisor and

    access to your computer.
Instant securityA specific hot key function automatically locks the
    system providing data security.
    Intelligent power
    supply
*1A microprocessor in the computers intelligent
power supply detects the batterys charge,
    automatically calculates the remaining battery
    capacity and protects electronic components
from abnormal conditions such as a voltage
overload from the AC adaptor. This can be
    specified in the Power Options.
    Battery save mode
*1This feature lets you configure the computer in
order to save battery power. This can be
    specified in the Power Options.
    Low battery
    automatic

When battery power is exhausted to the point
that computer operation cannot be continued, the
    system automatically enters Hibernation Mode
and shuts itself down. This can be specified in the
    Power Options.
    Heat dispersal
*1To protect against overheating, the processor has
an internal temperature sensor so that, if the
computers internal temperature rises to a certain
level, the cooling fan is turned on or the
processing speed is lowered. This can be
    specified in the Power Options.
If the processors temperature reaches an unacceptably high level with
either setting, the computer will automatically shuts down to prevent any
damage - in this instance all unsaved data in memory will be lost.
    TOSHIBA HDD
ProtectionThis feature uses the acceleration sensor built in
the computer to detect vibration and shocks, and
automatically moves the hard disk drive’s
read/write head to a safe position in order to
reduce the risk of damage that could be caused
by head-to-disk contact. Refer to the Using the
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Protection section in
Chapter 4, Operating Basics for details.
The TOSHIBA HDD Protection function does not guarantee that the hard
