Foreign metal objects can create a short circuit, which can cause damage and fire, possibly resulting in serious injury. Carefully clean the dust on the surface of the cooling vents using a soft cloth.Memory module coverSome models are equipped with the memory module cover. The memory module slot under this cover allows for the installation, replacement and removal of additional memory module. The capacity of the memory modules varies depending on the model. MicrophoneThe built-in microphone allows you to import andrecord sounds for your application. Refer to theSound System and Video mode section for more information.Web Camera LEDThe Web Camera LED glows when the Web Camera is operating.Web CameraWeb Camera is a device that allows you to record video or take photographs with your computer. You can use it for video chatting or video conferences using a communication tool.Do not point the web camera directly at the sun. Do not touch or press strongly on the web camera lens. Failure to do so might reduce image quality. Use an eyeglass cleaner (cleaner cloth) or other soft cloth to clean the lens if it becomes dirty. However, if you turn off the computer into Sleep Mode, this indicator blinks white.KeyboardThe keyboard contains character keys, control keys, function keys, and special Windows keys, providing all the functionality of a full-size keyboard. Refer to the The Keyboard section for details.NFC (Near Field Communication) detection areaNFC (Near Field Communication) initiates interactions immediately between people and objects close the computer. NFC enables quick ad-hoc connections from PC to PC, or PC to device, through simple physical touch, without the pre-requisite of formal pairing. The interactions are intended to be quick, simple and delightful, simplifying the interactions with daily used devices and promoting a more social computing experience. Some models are equipped with NFC function.Touch PadThe Touch Pad located in the palm rest is used to control the movement of the on-screen pointer. To use the Touch Pad, simply touch and move your fingertip across it in the direction you want the on-screen pointer to go.Touch Pad control buttonsThe two buttons located on the bottom of the Touch Pad are used like the buttons on a standard mouse. Internal Hardware ComponentsThis section describes the internal hardware components of your computer. The actual specifications might vary depending on the model you purchased. Battery packThis computer includes a battery pack inside. However, do not attempt to dismount or replace it by yourself. Contact an authorized TOSHIBA service provider, if necessary. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack provides power to the computer when the AC adaptor is not connected. For more detailed information on the use and operation of the battery pack, refer to the Battery section.CPUThe processor type varies depending on model. To check which type of processor is included in your model, click Control Panel -> System and Security -> System under Windows System group in All apps.Legal Footnote (CPU) For more information regarding CPU, refer to the Legal Footnotes section.Hard Disk Drive or Solid-State DriveThe capacity of the hard disk drive varies depending on the model. Note that part of the hard disk overall capacity is reserved as administration space.Some models are equipped with a "Solid-State Drive (SSD)" instead of a hard disk drive. In this manual, the word "HDD" or "Hard disk drive" also refers to the SSD unless otherwise stated. SSD is a large-capacity storage device which uses Solid-State Memory in place of a magnetic disk of the hard disk. Video RAMThe memory in the graphics adaptor of the computer, used to store the image displayed on a bitmap display. The amount of Video RAM available depends on the system memory of the computer. Click Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Display -> Adjust resolution under Windows System group in All apps . The amount of Video RAM can be verified by clicking the Advanced settings button in the Screen Resolution window.Memory moduleThe memory module is installed in the computer.Legal Footnote (Memory (Main System)) For more information regarding Memory (Main System), refer to the Legal Footnotes section.Graphics Processing UnitGraphics processing unit (GPU) performance might vary depending on product model, design configuration, applications, power management settings and features utilized. GPU performance is only optimized when operating in AC power mode and might decrease considerably when operating in battery power mode.Legal Footnote (Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)) For more information regarding Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), refer to the Legal Footnotes section. Intel® Display Power Saving Technology Intel GPU models might include the Display Power Saving Technology feature that can save the power consumption of the computer by optimizing picture contrast on the internal LCD. This feature can be used if the computer is: Running under battery mode Using the internal LCD display only The Display Power Saving Technology feature is enabled as the factory default. If you want to turn off this feature, change it in the settings accordingly in the Intel ® HD Graphics Control Panel. You can access this control panel in the following way: 1. Right-click on the desktop and click Graphics Properties... User's Manual 3-11
2. Click Power and then click On Battery in the upper-left corner. 3. Click Disable under Display Power Saving Technology . 4. Click Apply. If you want to enable this feature, click Enable under Display Power Saving Technology . AMD ® Vari-Bright ™ AMD GPU models might include the AMD ® Vari-Bright ™ feature that can save the power consumption of the computer by optimizing picture contrast on the internal LCD. This feature can be used if the computer is: running under battery mode using the internal LCD display only The Vari-Bright feature can be enabled in the AMD VISION Engine Control Center/Catalyst Control Center. You can access the center in the following way: Right-click on the desktop and click AMD VISION Engine Control Center /Catalyst Control Center . In this control panel: 1. Select PowerPlay™ under Power. 2. Select Enable PowerPlay™ check box, and then select the Enable Vari-Bright™ check box. If you want to improve the picture quality under the conditions mentioned above, adjust the setting towards Maximize Quality or disable this feature. NVIDIA ® GeForce Experience TM NVIDIA ® GeForce Experience TM optimizes your games by downloading personalized graphics settings from the NVIDIA Cloud. This feature is only provided with some models. How to use NVIDIA ® GeForce Experience TM : 1. Click GeForce Experience in All apps . 2. Under the Preferences tab, click Games -> Check now . 3. If the supported games by NVIDIA GeForce Experience are installed, the games are listed in the Games tab. Select the game you want to optimize. 4. Click the Optimize button to optimize the game. 5. The NVIDIA® GeForce Experience TM can notify you of the latest display driver updates for NVIDIA Graphics Controllers. However, Toshiba does not guaranty compatibility of such NVIDIA drivers with your device. TOSHIBA shall not be liable for any damage resulting from NVIDIA’s drivers. Hence, your device shall not be covered under TOSHIBA’s limited warranty. Please refer to the End User LicenseAgreement (EULA). Furthermore, TOSHIBA does not provide any technical support for such drivers. The NVIDIA ® GeForce Experience TM application does not optimize all PC games. PC game support can be checked via Preferences -> General -> Supported games . Even if your PC game is supported, NVIDIA Cloud might not have the data necessary to optimize your PC game. Use Send feedback (bottom right of NVIDIA ® GeForce Experience TM ) to provide necessary information such as device system information, name of PC game, and so on. NVIDIA might choose to optimize such games via the NVIDIA Cloud in the future. Power Condition Descriptions The computer operating capability and battery charge status are affected by different power conditions, including whether an AC adaptor is connected and what the battery charge level is. DC IN/Battery indicator Check the DC IN/Battery indicator to determine the status of the battery pack and the power status with the AC adaptor connected. The following indicator conditions should be noted: Flashing amberThe battery charge is low. The AC adaptor must be connected to recharge the battery.AmberIndicates that the AC adaptor is connected and the battery is charging.WhiteIndicates that the AC adaptor is connected and the battery is fully charged.No lightUnder any other conditions, the indicator does not light.If the battery pack becomes too hot while it is being charged, the charge stops and the DC IN/Battery indicator goes out. When the temperature of the battery pack falls to a normal range, charging will resume. This process occurs regardless of whether the computer's power is on or off.User's Manual 3-13
