    AV-452 Presentation Mixer/Amplifi er
    Designed for the special needs
    of meeting rooms, conference halls,
    churches and other presentation ap-
plications, the TASCAM AV-452 is an
all-new mixer created for the needs
    of the contracting and installation
    market. The AV-452 incorporates a
    microphone mixer, audio/video re-
    ceiver, infrared controller and digital
amplifi er into one affordable, easy-
    to-use component.
    As presentation systems and
software have become more popular, bing. As devices are selected on the
AV -452, IR commands can automatically
be forwarded to the video projector, so
the presenter only needs to press one
    switch to change sources.
The built-in 100W digital power amp
has two switchable speaker outputs, fa-
    cilitating installations in multi-room
setups. The AV-452 can also be cascaded
for even more control over multi-room
    installations.
    Professional installers will appre-
ciate features that make the AV-452
easy to specify and install. A
    constant voltage
    input with noise
    gate allows a pag-
    ing system to co-
    exist on the same
    speaker system
    as the AV-452. An
    EMG break can mute
local audio when an emergency alarm
    system is activated, allowing the
AV -452 to integrate with common
    building communication systems.
The AV-452 offers a list of conve-
nience features for the presenter, from
a VGA In/Thru port for laptop connec-
tions to a learning IR remote. For even
more control, the installer can connect
relay switches to a parallel port, or con-
nect an AMX™ or Crestron™ system to
    its’ RS-232/422/485 port.
Since A/V systems only enhance a
    presentation when they run smoothly,
    the AV-452’s most important feature
is to help the presenter. It helps the
    speaker operate their presentation
as one complete unit, increasing their
confi dence and allowing them to focus
on what they do best. A/V presentations have become routine
    for middle management, educators and
other public speakers. With its universal
learning remote and IR blaster func-
tions, the AV-452 is designed to control
    a sophisticated A/V system as a single,
    integrated unit.
    The AV-452 was designed primar-
ily to assist with switching audio and
video sources and to allow presenters
to be heard. Four microphone inputs
are available on XLR and barrier strips,
enough for multiple presenters and au-
    dience participation. Each microphone
input has three-band EQ, level and mute
controls, and the installer can switch on
a 100Hz rolloff on the mic group.
The fi ve A/V inputs are provided for
cassette, CD-RW, DVD, VCR and Aux de-
vices. The A/V inputs include S-Video
and Composite video, and sources can
be routed to other destinations for dub-

    Single Room Setups
    Dual Room Feed
    T
his simple setup shows the AV-452 at the cen-
ter of a single room setup. This is a common
arrangement for boardrooms, small churches and
school presentation rooms. Mic panels in the walls
allow up to four microphones to be connected to the
AV -452, or wireless microphones can be connected
in their place. The DVD player and Cassette/CD-RW
combo are connected to their dedicated inputs and
can be switched from the AV-452’s front panel or
    learning remote control.
The AV-452’s internal 100W amplifi er provides
power for the distributed speaker system. A con-
stant voltage input allows the building’s intercom
system to be wired directly into the mixer, so the
presenter can turn off background music during
presentations. A gate on the CV line can still pass
    announcements and emergency alerts.
In this case, the AV-452 functions not only as
a small PA and A/V amplifi er, but also as a video
switcher and master controller for the system.
    H
otel conference rooms commonly employ fold-
ing partitions so that the room can be divided
for two smaller events. A hotel with modest needs
can use a single AV-452 in this joined setup.
The A/V equipment is placed in Room A, and will
only be available in that room. When the partitions
are open, both Amp A and Amp B are switched on
from the AV-452’s front panel. When a small group
needs to use room B and the partition is closed,
Amp B is switched off. The installer can even wire
a toggle switch to the wall in room B to switch that
room’s amplifi er off on the AV-452.
If the client needs two stereo feeds for mul-
timedia presentations with this setup, you can
add an external power amplifi er for room A, use
the internal amps for room B, and have the same
individual control over the two rooms.

    Two Cascaded Rooms
    Single Room in Multiple Zones
    S
imilar to the previous example, this installation
shows a hotel conference room with a center
divider. The difference with this installation is that
each room has its own A/V setup. When the two
rooms are joined together, the Cascade button is
pressed on the mixer in room B. This button over-
rides the rest of the settings on the AV-452 in room
B and instead amplifi es the signal from room A.
Both rooms in this example play their audio back
    in stereo.
Other applications of the Cascade function
include the ability to use an external submixer
or microphone mixer for large presentations. In
this mode, the AV-452 amplifi es the signal from
the Cascade input in addition to its four mic inputs
    and A/V components.
    I
t’s not uncommon for a large presentation hall
to need amplifi cation for several zones. Some
examples of exterior zones may be the hallway
outside of a presentation, the restrooms and the
    outdoor patio.
In this setup, the AV-452 is connected to a power
amplifi er for use in the main room. The internal
Amp A and Amp B in the AV-452 power the hall-
way and patio zones. If the presenter doesn’t want
his presentation to play in those zones, they can
be turned off without effecting the sound inside
of the room by pressing the Amp A and Amp B
    switches.
In this installation, the AV-452’s amplifi ers are
set to mono, but the presentation in the main room
still plays through the power amp in stereo. Like
each of the other installations, the presenter has
instant control over his or her audio and video
sources, and can even switch the projector’s source
from the AV-452’s front panel, learning remote
control or toggle switch controls installed on the
    lectern.
