    2 − Features of the CD-160MKII
    
    Rear panel
    1 ANALOG  OUTPUT L,R jacks (UNBALANCED) 
    Analog 2-channel audio signal is output from this jack.
    2 DIGITAL COA XIAL OUTPUT jack 
    This RCA jack out put SPDIF digital audio data to 
    the amplif ier.
    N O T E
    	 This	unit	cannot	output	the	digital	audio	data	when	
    Pitch	Control	is	ON,	and	ESP	is	ON	during	playback	
    of	a	CD.
    	
    3 DIGITAL OPTICAL OUTPUT jack 
    This compatible connector output S/PDIF digital audio 
    data to the amplifier.
    N O T E
    	 This	unit	cannot	output	the	digital	audio	data	when	
    Pitch	Control	is	ON,	and	also	ESP	is	ON	during	play
    -
    back	of	a	CD.
    4	VOLTAGE SELECTOR 
    Switches the voltage to either 230 V or 120 V.
    N O T E
    	 The	voltage	selector	is	only	available	on	units	for	 North	American	market.
    5 AC Power Cord 
    After all other connections are complete, connect the 
    plug to the AC wall socket.

    2 − Features of the CD-160MKII
    1  SEARCH / SEARCH ALBUM 
    When the Search function is on, SEARCH or SEARCH ALBUM 
    is lit according to the selected mode.
    2 SHUFFLE 
    SHUFFLE is lit when this function is on.
    3 REPEAT display 
    When the Repeat function is on, the display shows the 
    repeat playback mode currently selected.
    4	INTRO 
    INTRO is lit when this function is on.
    5 MEMORY 
    MEMORY is lit when Program playback is on.
    6 ESP display 
    (ESP) is lit when ESP (Electric Shock Protection) is on.
    7 DISC / FOLDER display 
    Cd lights when a CD is loaded. When a MP3 disc 
    containing folders is loaded, the display shows the total 
    number of the folders.
    8 Track number display 
    W hen a CD is loaded, the display shows the total 
    nu mber of t racks. W hen a M P3 disc containing fold-
    ers is loaded, the display shows the total nu mber of 
    the folders.
    N O T E
    	 When	in	search	mode	(MP3	only),	the	initial	letter	of	
    a	track	 name	 appears 	on 	the 	display 	(see 	"Search 	for	
    a	name	of	track"	on	page	20).
    9 Counter display 
    This shows the time information of the disc.

    	 When	in	search	mode	(MP3	only),	the	display	shows	 a	track	name	(see	"Search	for	a	name	of	track"	on	
    page	20).

    MP3 files and directories
    CDs containing MP3 files can be played by the 
    CD-160MKII with the following limitations on the number 
    of files and directories.
    Maximum number of directories: 200
    Maximum number of MP3 files: 500
    File format: MPEG 1/2/2.5 Layer2/3(ISO/IEC 11172-3, 
    ISO/IEC 13818-3.2)
    Bit rate: 32kbps to 320kbps (over 128kbps is recommended)
    Sampling frequency: 32 kHz/44.1 kHz/48 kHz, Mono or Stereo
    File extension: mp3, Mp3, mP3, MP3
    N O T E
    	 The	CD-160MKII	can	only	read	the	files	in	the	first	
    session	of	a	multi-session	disc.
    	 ID3	tag	display	for	MP3	playback	is	not	supported.
    	 If	audio	data	is	converted	with	Variable	Bit	Rate,	it	 may	not	be	played	back	properly.
    MP3 files are played as the order in the following diagram.

    1.	 Press	the	POWER	switch	to	turn	the	unit	on.
    2.	 Press	the	OPEN/CLOSE	key.
    3.	 Place	a	disc	on	the	tray	with	the	printed	label	face	
    up.
    C A U T I O N
    	 Never	place	more	than	one	disc	on	the	tray.
    	 The	disc	must	be	loaded	centrally	into	the	disc	tray.	
    If	the	disc	is	not	correctly	loaded,	it	may	not	be	pos
    -
    sible	to	open	the	tray	again	once	it	has	closed,	so	
    you	should	ensure	the	disc	is	always	centrally	load
    -
    ed	in	the	tray.
    	 Do	not	force	the	tray	by	hand	during	opening	and	 closing	operations.
    4.	 Press	the	OPEN/CLOSE	key	to	close	the	CD	door.
    	 It	takes	a	few	seconds	for	the	unit	to	load	the	disc.	 No	keys	will	work	during	loading.	Wait	until	the	
    total	number	of	the	tracks	and	the	total	play	time	
    of	the	disc	are	displayed.
    	 When	no	disc	is	loaded	in	the	CD	player,	
    NO 
    DISC	is	displayed.
      When a CD is loaded:
    total trackstotal playing time
     When a MP3 disc is loaded:
    total number of folders

    5.	 Press 	the 	PLAY/READY	key 	(Á/π) 	to 	start 	playback.
    	 Playback	starts	from	the	first	track	of	the	disc.
    	 When	the	playback	of	all	the	tracks	has	finished,	
    the	unit	stops	automatically.
    N O T E
    	 MP3 	tracks 	recorded 	out 	of 	folders 	are 	automatically	
    put	in	the	“ROOT”	folder,	and	playback	starts	from	
    the	first	track	of	the	ROOT	folder.

    ( p au s e m o d e)
    Press the PLAY/READY key (Á/π) during playback. 
    Playback stops at the current position. To resume playback, 
    press the PLAY/READY key (Á/π) again.
    To stop playbacks
    Press the STOP key (ª) to stop playback.
    Search for a part of a track
    During playback, hold down the skip key (Â or ¯) 
    and release it when the part you want to listen to is found.
    To skip to the next or a previous track
    During playback, press the skip key (Â or ¯) repeat-
    edly until the desired track is found. The selected track 
    will be played from the beginning.

    In the stop mode, press the skip key (Â or ¯) repeat-
    edly until the track you want to listen to is found. Press 
    the PL AY/PAUSE key (¥/π) to start playback from the 
    selected track.
    During playback, when the  key is pressed, the 
    t rack being played will be played f rom the begin ning. 
    To ret ur n to the begin ning of the previous t rack, press 
    the  key t wice.
    During programmed playback, the next or previous track 
    in the program is played.
    Direct Playback
    While in stop or playback mode, you can use the numeric 
    keys of the remote control unit to select a track.
    Select a track using the numeric keys, and within 10 sec-
    onds press the PLAY/READY key.
    Playback starts from the selected track.
    For instance, to select track number 35, press 3 and 5.
    To play tracks 1 to 9,  simply press the corresponding keys (1 to 9).
    N O T E
    	 Direct	playback	isn’t	possible	during	shuffle	play-
    back	and	programmed	playback.
    Pitch control
    N O T E
    	 Changing	pitch	rapidly	during	playback	may	cause	 noise	problems.
    	 When	you	use	the	Pitch	Control	function,	no	signal	 is	output	from	the	DIGITAL	OUT.
    1.	 Press	the	PITCH CONTROL	key	in	the	stop	mode.	
    The	LED	will	light.
    	 This	key	can	be	pressed	during	playback.
    2.	 Turn	the	
    PITCH CONTROL	knob	right	or	left	to	
    change	pitch.
    3.	 Turning	right	makes	playback	speed	faster	within	 the	range	0	to	+12%.
    4.	 Turning	left	makes	playback	speed	slower	within	 the	range	0	to	–12%.

    Listening through headphones
    WA R N I N G
    	 Always	lower	the	volume	level	prior	to	plugging	
    in	your	headphones.	TO	AVOID	DAMAGING	YOUR	
    HEARING.	Do	not	place	your	headphones	on	your	
    head	until	after	you	have	plugged	them	in.
    For private listening, insert the plug from your headphones 
    into the PHONES jack, and adjust the volume by turning 
    the LEVEL knob.
    The  ESP (Electronic Shock Protection) stores the music 
    in the buffer to prevent sound from skipping.
    Du r ing playback of a CD, press the ESP key to t u r n the 
    ESP on or off. W hen you t u r n the ESP on, 4 0 S EC  
    (40 seconds) br ief ly appears, and the ESP indicator 
    lights on the display.
    The ESP indicator blinks while the unit is filling the buffer.
    N O T E
    	 When	the	unit	is	on	the	stable	place	and	free	from	mechanical	shocks,	you	can	turn	this	function	off.
    	 During	playback	of	MP3,	this	function	is	always	ON,	 and	this	unit	can	output	the	digital	audio	data	from	
    its	digital	output	jacks.	However,	during	playback	of	
    a	CD, 	when 	ESP 	is 	ON, 	the 	unit 	cannot 	output 	digital	
    audio	data.
    ªTo display the MP3 information
    During playback of MP3 disc, press the MP3 key for more 
    than 1 second. The information about the current track is 
    displayed as follows:
    Filename w Title w Artist w Album
    NONE appears when there is no information.
    UNKNOWN appears when the unit cannot read the 
    information.
    Press the MP3 key for more than 1 second again to cancel 
    the MP3 information mode.
    Skip to the next folder (MP3)
    Press the MP3 FOLDER keys to skip folders.

    Up to 64 tracks can be programmed in the desired order.
    Shuff le function doesn’t work during programmed playback.
    1.	 Press	the	
    PROGRAM	key	in	the	stop	mode.

    	The MEMORY indicator appears on the display.
    To cancel the program mode, press the STOP key (ª).
    2.	 Press	the	numeric	keys	(or	press	the	skip	key	(
    Â 
    or ¯)	repeatedly)	to	select	a	folder	on	a	MP3	
    disc,	then	press	the	
    PROGRAM	key.
    MP3 tracks recorded out of folders are in the “01” 
    (ROOT) folder.
    Skip this step when playing a CD.

    3.	 Press	the	numeric	keys	(or	press	the	skip	key	(Â 
    or ¯)	repeatedly)	to	select	a	track,	then	press	the	
    PROGRAM	key.
    	The track is programmed, and P-02 is displayed.
    Repeat steps 2 and 3 to program more tracks.
    You can program up to 64 tracks.
    4.	 When	the	selection	of	track	numbers	is	completed,	 press	the	
    PLAY/READY	key	(¥/π)	to	start	pro-
    grammed	playback.
    W hen t he playback of all t he prog r a m med t r ack s 
    has f i n ished , or if t he STOP key is pressed , t he 
    MEMORY i nd icator w ill go of f a nd t he prog r a m mode 
    w ill be ca ncelled.
    The program is retained in memory until the OPEN/
    CLOSE key or the POWER switch is pressed. You can 
    return to the programmed playback by pressing the 
    PROGRAM key and the PLAY/READY key (¥/π).

    To check the programmed order
    In the stop mode, press the PROGRAM key repeatedly. 
    The track number and program number will be shown on 
    the display.
    To add a track to the end of the program
    In the stop mode, press the PROGRAM key repeatedly 
    until 00 appears on the display. Select a track number 
    using the numeric keys or the skip key (Â or ¯) and 
    then press the PROGRAM key. The track is added to the 
    end of the program.

    To overwrite the program
    In the stop mode, press the PROGRAM key repeatedly 
    until the program number to be changed appears on the 
    display.
    Select a new track number using the numeric keys or the 
    skip key (Â or ¯) and then press the PROGRAM key.
    To clear program
    To clear the programmed contents, press the PROGRAM 
    and the STOP key (ª) in the stop mode.
    If the OPEN/CLOSE key or the POWER switch is 
    pressed, the programmed contents will also be cleared.

    Repeat Playback
    Every time the REPEAT key is pressed, the mode is 
    changed as follows:
    When	a	CD	is	loaded:
    REPEATREPEAT ALL

    When	a	MP3	disc	is	loaded:
    REPEATREPEAT ALL

    REPEAT ALBUM
    N O T E
    	 The	Repeat	mode	will	be	canceled	if	one	of	the	fol-
    lowing	keys	is	pressed:	STOP,	INTRO	CHECK,	POW
    -
    ER,	OPEN/CLOSE.
    Repeat one track (REPEAT)
    Press the REPEAT key once during playback. REPEAT lights.
    The track being played will be played repeatedly. If you 
    press the skip key (Â or ¯) and select another track, 
    the track you selected will be played repeatedly.
    It is also possible to select a track to be repeated in the stop 
    mode. Press the REPEAT key, select a track using the skip 
    key (Â or ¯), and then press the PLAY/READY key 
    (G/J) to start playback.
    Repeat all the tracks (REPEAT ALL)
    All the tracks will be played repeatedly.
    Press the REPEAT key twice. REPEAT ALL lights.
    During programmed playback, programmed tracks will be 
    played repeatedly.
    Repeat all the tracks in the folder (REPEAT 
    ALBUM) (MP3 only)
    All the tracks in the folder will be played repeatedly.
    Press the REPEAT key three times. REPEAT ALBUM lights.

    Shuffle Playback
    The tracks can be played randomly. Press the SHUFFLE 
    key during playback or when in the stop mode. SHUFFLE will 
    then light up in the display.
    If you press the ¯ key during shuff le playback, next 
    track will be randomly selected and played. If you press 
    the  key, the currently played track will be played 
    from the beginning. A track cannot be replayed during 
    shuff le playback.
    Shuffle playback doesn’t work during programmed playback.
    If one of the following keys is pressed, shuff le mode 
    will be cancelled: SHUFFLE, STOP, INTRO CHECK, 
    POWER, OPEN/CLOSE.

    Press the INTRO CHECK key in the stop or play mode.
    The INTRO indicator lights on the display, and the begin-
    ning of all the tracks is played for 10 seconds each. When 
    a track you want to listen to is found, press the INTRO 
    CHECK key to resume normal playback.
    To skip to the next or a previous track, press the skip key.
    To stop Intro Check function, press the STOP key.
    Repeat and shuff le playback don’t work during the 
    intro check.
    If one of the following keys is pressed, the intro check 
    mode will be cancelled: INTRO CHECK, SHUFFLE, 
    STOP, POWER, OPEN/CLOSE.

    You can select the track by searching for its name.
    1. Press	the	MP3	key	once.	
    	An alphabet (initial letter of a track name) and a track 
    name are displayed.
