CD-R Pro & Deluxe
TA SCAMs computer CD-R bundles include ev erything you need to start recording and mastering CDs on y ou computer.  Both bundles include the softw are and hardware for Windows ™ 95/98 andMacintosh ™ platforms, and are based around our highly acclaimed TEAC CD-R mechanisms.  The Delux e version w as designed to provide a cost conscious package for the musician on a budget, while still offering a truly powerful and up-to-date suite of softw are that will not leave the user w anting for more.  The Pro bundle w as designed to offer the most complete package we could muster with all the bells and whistles, and was created for higher end home users and project studios.
CD-R drives found in computer stores and catalogs fall w ay short of what a musician needs.  They usually tout audio CD burning capabilities, but what they mean is y ou can create a greatest hits CD by taking v arious tracks from y our existing audio CDs.  The problem is that the softw are in these bundles cannot record audio from the outside world, nor do they offer an y processing or editing capabilities.  
TA SCAMs audio mark et, offering the power of non-linear assembly editing and plug-in processing.  While powerful audio capabilities w as of primeimportance with this bundle, the other key issue was ease of use.  For someone to use this, y ou realistically only need to ha ve a reasonable working knowledge of y our computer and a general familiarity with audio .  These are T ASCAMs third gener ation bundles, and offer the best of the best on the mark et.
TA SCAMsmusic on the computer through digital audio workstations, digital sequencers, or other audio progr ams.  The music can be mixed down directly in their production progr am, then moved to the softw are in TA SCAMs bundles for mastering processors, edits, fades, final EQ , and assembled into CDs without missing a beat.
The CD-R bundles are alsonot using computer production systems.  The ability to record audio from outside the computer with recording resolution of up to 24 bit / 96kHz (with a high resolution sound card) opens up a whole world of mastering capabilities.  
With CD-R Prossounding mastering processors, and 100% Red Book compliant masters, the CD-R Pro is an excellent choice for a project studio .  The advanced home user will also appreciate the MP3 suite for internet distribution, portable MP3 pla yers, or sa ving drive space.

MACINTOSH ™ AUDIO SOFTWARE
TC Works SparkLE
Both interface.  T C Works SparkLE is a mastering application basedon their popular Spark application.  SparkLE supports highresolution, 24 bit / 96kHz audio , and ships with stunning real-time mastering processors.  (SparkLE can also use plug-ins designed for the full version of Spark, as well as VST plug-ins.)The audio CD playlist can be authored in SparkLE, with direct export capability into Adaptec T oast or Jam for burning the CD .
One of thand operation.  There are few menus needed to get the jobdone, allowing y ou to work directly with the audio and processors.  For users who are used to working with offlinepreviews of audio that work a few seconds at a stretch, the real time, non-destructiv e operation of the effect processing inSparkLE is a dream come true.
Obviously , the high resolution 24 bit / 96kHzthat you can record audio through high resolution audio cards.Not so obvious is that ev en on a machine with 16 bit A/D andD/A, you can import higher resolution files created on othersystems, manipulate them, and sa ve them without degr ading the file in the process.  In this situation, the audio that y ouhear is down sampled for your built in audio support, but thefull resolution of the recording is utiliz ed for processing and re-writing to disk.  Also , the higher resolution support allowshigh quality, offline sample r ate conversions to be processedwhen needed.  
SparkLEis suitable for multimedia production, not just audio mastering.An y audio file format that QuickTime recogniz es can be imported into SparkLE for editing, processing or con version.  (F or y our con venience, QuickTime 4 tr anslators are included onthe CD-ROM, so youll have support for the v ery latest set ofpopular audio formats including MP3 and R ealAudio.)
Tmaster plug-in matrix allows up to 4 real time stereo processors to be inserted in an y order.  Plug-ins are included for par ametric EQ (SparkOneBand), a look-ahead maximiz er (TC|MaxIt), and delay effects (T C|DelayIt).  Each processor can be inserted into one of the four slots, and ma y be used more than once.  F or instance, you could run T C|MaxIt in one slot, and run three SparkOneBand EQs in the other three slots.  Each plug-in has its own control panel, and b ypass controls are available for 
each of the processors on an individual basis, or on the processing chain as a whole.
Additionalfades, changing gain or normalizing, rev ersing the file, inverting the phase, and high qualit y resampling.

Audio Recording and CD Authoring
Adaptec Toast
Adaptec capabilities.  T oast can burn audio CDs suitable for pla ying in standard audio CD players, with basic control o ver the CD la youtincluding tr ack order and pause between tr acks.  
Toast can also pla yer , but show a data CD v olume when placed in the computer .This is a great method of distributing y our demos, offering astandard CD for people to listen to, and ha ving the band press kit on the CD for easy access.Audio/data combinations arealso a cost effectiv e way to back up y our music as an audio CD that can be pla yed in an y CD player , with all the r aw audio and sequencer files that created it stored on the same CD ready for restor al any time. 
Adaptec Jam!  (CD-R Pro)
Adaptec Jam offers extremely powerful CD CDs written by Jam are 100% R ed Book compliant CD masters, which means the CDs gener ated by this package can be used as masters for mass duplication.  F or users who wish to also writePQ codes like index points, EAN codes, or control the SCMS setting on the CD , Jam allow provides user-friendly controlsto quickly set up the CD exactly as y ou want.
To ensure smooth tr ansitions CD player -lik e controls to listen to y our CD.  Non-destructiv e track level controls allow y ou to bump the gain on each tr ack so they sound at about the same level.  Gain adjustments will be processed on the fly while the CD is writing.  P ause between tracks can be set to a wide range of times, including negative time for overlapping tr acks.  
Linear, logarithmic, and burst crossfadecurves are a vailable to mak e the transitions soundjust as y ou wish.

Both interface.  R eal time processing is a vailable in the intuitiv e mixer section for EQ , compression, de-hissing, and stereo enhancement.  DirectX plug-ins are also supported.  When the CD is burned, the master will be 100% compliant with the R ed Book audio specification, which means your final product is perfectly suitable for a mass production master .
The editingtrimming, fade and volume parameters being adjustable with fiv ehandles displayed right on the audio block itself .  (No menus, no right mouse click, no hot key combinations to remember .)  This direct visual interface not only allows the users to edit faster than on any other competing progr am, but also gives immediate visual reference when reviewing the material later on.
Red R oasterallowing y ou to separ ate each part in the crossfade, or for use in layering sounds together .  For instance, if y ou have a liv erecording, y ou may want to feather in some audience applauseto smooth the tr ansition between edited tunes, or it could beused to add some sound effects to introduce the song.
High resolutionstandard in both bundles.  This allows y ou to take advantage ofhigher resolution sound cards, or allows y ou to process and editaudio other people have recorded without degr ading the end product.  Even more adv anced algorithms are used with the  floating point processor , extending your effective dynamic r ange to 32 bits.
Assembling the tr acks into a mixes already processed as separ ate tracks, y ou can automaticallydrop IDs at the start of each audio region.  Or , if youve done a lotof editing, y ou can manually place IDs, totally irrespectiv e of theaudio region beginning and endings.  Additional menus are available for setting EAN codes.

Adaptec EZ CD Creator  - (Windows Application)
EZ CD Creatorfollowing the directions as the CD Creation Wizard.  This is v eryhandy for users who are new to CD assembly.  For more adv anced users, the Wizard can be b ypassed so you can directlyassemble to the CD manually .

AudioCatalystXing T echnologies.  It is k ey to remember that not all MP3 encodersare equal.  The MP3 standard is based on the initial research done at the Fraunhofer Institute in German y.    Heres what Niels R umphad to say in a candid interview with R ecording Magazine:(December 99 issue)
  MP3 is a standard, but when you closely look at what  is really standardized, its the bit stream syntax and   the way in which the bitstream is decoded, but NOT how   to encode.  And that is pretty much an art form - you   can encode MP3 in a multitude of ways.
  The ISO  encoder source code and made it publicly available.    That example was specifically not designed to produce   high quality audio, but many people are taking that   source, compiling it, and saying, Hey! I wrote an MP3   encoder!  
  There are  high quality encoders.  For example, Xing wrote their   own for AudioCatalyst.
Xing Technologies has been a leader in man y compressed audioareas.  In fact, many of the popular MP3 encoders that ha ve receiv ed favor able reviews ha ve been based on the Xing MP3
engine.  Y oull notice them b y the little Xing logo that seems topop up somewhere in the progr am.
The earlier MP3 for constant bit rate.  This meant that the amount of data used tostore the audio w as exactly the same no matter how complex the
waveform got.  Later on, the concept came up of dynamically allocating data so that simple w aveforms were represented with less data so the more complex w ave form could get more data to better capture the audio .  This variable bit rate (VBR) encoding scheme gener ally results in a smoother , more consistent sound.  AudioCatalyst can produce CBR MP3 files for the ultimate in backw ards compatibility, or it can produce VBR MP3 files for the best sound qualit y possible.

This has to do with different manufacturing processes of both the CD-R media and the CD-R mechanism.  (Some media that does not work well with one CD-R mechanism ma y work reasonably with another .)
