    INTRODUCTION
The machine is available in two designs:
    1. Sacrifier (fig. 1)
The rotors are fitted with blades (KOVA 60245) which make parallel cuts in the
ground. The cuts allow water, air and nourishment to penetrate to the grass roots.
    2. Lawn rake (fig. 2)
The rotors are fitted with independent, suspended heads (KOVA 60212) that rake up
moss and dead grass from the lawn.
    USING THE MACHINE
    BEFORE STARTING
wLoosen the oil plug (fig. 3D) and check the oil level in the engines crankcase.
The oil, at the right level, just reaches the edge of the hole. If necessary top up the
    oil using SAE 10W-30.
wFill the fuel tank with unleaded petrol. Do not mix oil with the petrol.
NOTE! Bear in mind that normal unleaded petrol is perishable, do not buy more fuel
than you can use within 30 days.
Only fill the machine with fuel outdoors and do not smoke while filling. Fill before
starting the engine. Never remove the fuel cap or fill while the engine is running or
    still warm.
    START
1.Move the stop control to the ON position (fig. 4). Move the choke lever to the CHOKE
    position.
2.Note. A warm engine requires no (little) choke.
3.Grip the starter handle and pull slowly until the starter unit engages.
4.Start the engine by swiftly pulling the starter handle.
5.When the engine starts, open the choke gradually.21

6.Make sure no one is standing close to the machine when starting or working.
7.Engage the rotors by moving the lever backwards and down (fig. 5).
8.Lift the height setting lever (fig. 6) so that the blades/heads lower to the working position.
    HEIGHT SETTING
wThe front wheels are raised and lowered by means of the height setting lever (fig. 11).
wYou can determine how much the front wheels should be raised by using the adjusting
    handle (fig. 6).
    OPERATING TIPS
wAlways cut the lawn before using the lawn rake. Collect the grass cuttings or rake them
    up.
wAfter cutting or raking, it is appropriate to dress and fertilize the lawn.
    Sacrifier
wA sacrifier cuts shallow, parallel cuts in the ground. The earth is aired, the roots
breathing is improved, water and nourishment can penetrate into the cuts. The cuts
should not be deeper that 6 - 8 mm.
    Lawn rake
wA lawn rake is used to remove moss and dead grass from the lawn. While working the
lawn rakes heads should not touch the ground.
    STOPPING
wMove the stop lever to the OFF position (fig 4).
wIf the machine is left unattended remove the spark plug cable from the spark plug.
    CLEANING
wThe machine should be cleaned after use. It is especially important to clean under the
cover. Rinse off using a garden hose. In doing so, the machine will last longer and work
    better.
wThe engine is air cooled. A blocked cooling system will damage the engine. The engine
should be cleaned annually or after 100 working hours.
Remove the fan cover. Clean the cylinders cooling fins, the fan and the rotating
protection grille. Clean more often during dry conditions (fig. 7).
The fuel contains lead and petrol. Never use fuel for cleaning purposes when
carrying out repairs or cleaning. Use another suitable cleaning agent instead.22

    							MAINTENANCE
    OIL CHANGE
wChange the oil for the first time after 5 working hours, and then after every 50 working
hours. Change the oil when the engine is hot.
Engine oil can be very hot if it is drained directly after stopping. Therefore let the
engine cool for a few minutes before draining the oil.
wRemove the drainage plug (fig 3E) and let the oil run out into a container. Replace the
    drainage plug.
wFill with new oil - SAE 10W-30, approx. 0.6 litres.
    AIR FILTER
wA dirty or blocked air filter reduces engine power and increases wear.
wWash the filter every third month or after every 25 working hours, which ever occurs the
    first.
Carefully remove the filter insert. If the insert is extremely dirty it should be replaced
    or cleaned (fig. 8).
Wash the insert in detergent and warm water. Rinse under running water. Let the
insert air dry completely before refitting. The insert must not be oiled. Do not use
compressed air to clean the insert.
    SPARK PLUG
wClean the spark plug periodically (after every 100 working hours). Use a wire brush to
clean. Set the correct electrode gap (fig. 9).
wChange the spark plug if the electrode is too burnt or if the spark plug is damaged. The
engine manufacturer makes the following recommendations:
For Briggs & Stratton engines a Champion J19LM ought to be used. Electrode gap
    0.75 mm.
    ROTOR
    Lawn rake
wAfter a period of time the blades/heads become worn on the side that first enters the
    lawn (fig. 10).
wLoosen the entire rotor unit from the machine and swing axle. When refitting the rotor
unit the blades/heads can be reversed (fig. 12).
wHowever, when both sides have been worn new wear parts should be fitted.
